Hold on tight!
Hold your horses! Let me tell you all about a game called Stop the Bus (also known as Bastard). Brace yourself, because this game is a wild ride!
When I play Stop the Bus, I start off with three tokens or chips. Now, here’s the deal: in each round, I’m on a mission to create the best hand possible. I do this by picking cards from the ones laid out in the middle of the table. Sounds simple, right? But wait, there’s a twist!
At the end of every round, the player or players with the lowest-ranking hand lose a token. Uh-oh! The stakes just got higher! The game continues like this until there’s only one player left with at least one token. That lucky person becomes the ultimate winner!
Now, if you really want to spice things up, you can add some money to the mix. Each chip can represent a dollar. So, as the tokens are lost, they’re thrown into a pot in the center of the table. And guess what? The winner gets to take home that tasty pot of cash when the game ends. How awesome is that?
Let’s get to the nitty-gritty: the cards and the deal.
Let’s talk about a fun card game called Stop the Bus! It’s a game that you can play with a regular deck of 52 cards. To start the game, you need to decide who will be the first dealer. Each player will draw a single card from the deck, and the person with the lowest card becomes the dealer.
Once the dealer is chosen, they should collect all the cards and give them a good shuffle. Then, the dealer will start dealing three cards to each player, one at a time. After that, the dealer will deal three cards face up in the center of the playing area. The remaining cards will not be used in this round.
Now, it’s time to start playing! The game begins with the player to the left of the dealer. They will take their turn, and then the play continues in a clockwise direction around the table.
How to Play
When it’s my turn, I have to pick one of the three cards in the middle of the table and swap it with a card from my hand. If I’m happy with my hand, I can say “Stop the Bus” to signal that everyone gets one more turn before the round ends. But if I don’t like my hand, I can just end my turn and the game keeps going.
We keep playing like this, with each player choosing a card from their hand and exchanging it with a card on the table, until someone says “Stop the Bus.”
Once someone stops the bus, everyone else gets one more chance to improve their hand.
I can even stop the bus on my first turn if I want to. I don’t have to draw or discard any cards. After the bus is stopped and everyone takes their final turn, it’s time for the showdown.
Know Your Hand Rankings and How to Win
When it comes to determining who has the lowest ranking hand at the end of a round, players will reveal their cards. The player with the lowest ranked hand will lose a chip. If there is a tie, both players will lose a chip. Here are the hand rankings from highest to lowest:
1. Three of a Kind: The highest-ranked Three of a Kind is three Aces (A-A-A), and the lowest-ranked is three Twos (2-2-2).
2. Running Flush: This hand consists of three sequential cards of the same suit. The highest Running Flush is Queen, King, and Ace (Q-K-A), while the lowest is 2, 3, and 4.
3. Run: A Run is made up of three sequential cards of any suit. Again, the highest Run is Queen, King, Ace (Q-K-A), and the lowest is 2, 3, and 4.
4. Flush: A Flush is formed by three non-sequential cards, all of the same suit. For example, 4, 9, and King of spades.
5. Pair: A Pair is two cards with the same rank. If there is a tie, the third card will determine the winner.
6. High Card: This is a hand with no combinations. The highest card in the hand determines the winner.
