Variations with Kingdomino

Hey there! So, you’re a fan of Kingdomino, huh? Well, you’re in luck because I’ve got some awesome variations of the game that you might want to try out. These variations will bring a whole new level of excitement and strategy to your game nights. So, let’s dive in and explore the possibilities!

1. Kingdomino Duel: This variation is specially designed for two players. Now you can enjoy all the fun and competition of Kingdomino, even when it’s just you and a friend. The rules are tweaked a bit to accommodate the smaller player count, but the essence of the game remains intact. Get ready to battle it out and see who will become the ultimate ruler of the land! 2. Giant Kingdomino: Are you ready to go big? With this variation, you can supersize your Kingdomino experience. Instead of the standard-sized tiles, you’ll be using oversized tiles that will take up more space on your table. This adds an extra challenge as you’ll need to carefully plan and strategize to fit everything together. It’s like playing Kingdomino on a whole new level! 3. Team Kingdomino: Why not team up with a buddy and take on the game together? In Team Kingdomino, you’ll be working alongside another player to build a kingdom. You’ll need to communicate and cooperate to make the best decisions for your shared kingdom. This variation adds a whole new dynamic to the game as you’ll need to consider not only your own tiles but also your partner’s. Can you and your teammate create a harmonious kingdom? 4. Circular Kingdomino: Ready to mix things up? In this variation, you’ll be ditching the traditional rectangular grid and opting for a circular shape instead. This change in shape completely transforms the way you’ll think and plan your moves. You’ll need to adapt your strategies to fit the circular board and find new ways to connect your tiles. Get ready for a mind-bending experience! 5. Kingdomino Towers: Take your kingdom-building skills to new heights with this variation. In Kingdomino Towers, you’ll be stacking your tiles to create multi-level structures. Each level will have its own scoring criteria, adding a whole new layer of strategy to the game. Can you build the tallest and most impressive tower in the land?

There you have it, my friend! Five exciting variations of Kingdomino that will bring a fresh and thrilling twist to your game nights. I hope you’re as excited about trying them out as I am. So gather your friends, set up the game, and let the kingdom-building adventures begin!

If you have both Kingdomino and Queendomino, you can bring them together for a special event called the “Royal Wedding.” This will allow you to enjoy three different versions of the game!

No matter which version you choose, you should prepare the dominoes from both boxes just as you normally would. Each box will keep its own set of dominoes, and each set will have a unique design on the back to tell them apart.

The rules for selecting and placing the dominoes are the same. However, the first line of dominoes you lay out will always come from the Queendomino box, and the second line will always come from the Kingdomino box. Keep alternating between the boxes in this way until the game is finished.

Play by yourself

Hey there! If you’re interested in playing dominoes on your own, I’ve got you covered. Here’s what you need to know:

  • For 3 to 4 players: Start by building a 7×7 grid, and then lay out 4 dominoes at a time. If you’re playing with 3 players, simply discard the remaining domino at the end of each round.
  • For 5 to 6 players: Begin with a 5×5 grid, and lay out 8 dominoes at a time. At the end of each round, discard the remaining dominoes.

Keep in mind: While it is possible to play with 7 or 8 players individually, it is not recommended. For these player counts, use a 5×5 grid and lay out 8 dominoes at a time. In a 7 player game, make sure to discard the extra domino. If you have a group larger than 6, playing with teams is a great option to consider.

Let’s Play Together

Did you know that in this game, 6 or 8 of us can play in teams of 2? We get to work together to create a 7×7 kingdom around a castle that we all share. Pretty cool, huh? Oh, and if there are 6 of us playing in teams of 2, we’ll just get rid of the leftover dominoes at the end of each round.

Before we start the game, we need to decide on our teams. We should sit next to our teammates, by the way.

Now, each team needs to pick a color and share the castle that matches their color. But don’t worry, we all get our own King Meeple. We’ll also start the game with one Knight and some Coins that add up to 7. It’s important to remember that we can talk to our teammates and get their opinion during our turns. But if we can’t agree on something, don’t worry. We each have the freedom to:

  • choose our own domino and place it anywhere in our shared kingdom. We have the power!
  • use or not use our Knights and Coins during our individual turn. The choice is ours!
