Setting Up

First, let’s set up the game. Each player will receive a player board, a set of wooden meeples, and a starting player card. The game board is placed in the middle of the table. Oh, and don’t forget to shuffle the cards!

Playing the Game

Now, let’s dive into the gameplay. Each round consists of three phases: Gathering, Action, and Feeding. During the Gathering phase, you’ll collect resources by placing your meeples on the available spaces. Remember, the number of meeples you have determines how many resources you can gather.

Next up is the Action phase. Here, you’ll spend your resources to construct buildings, develop technologies, or advance your tribe. Be strategic with your choices – each decision can significantly impact your progress.

People worked really hard to build simple homes, and they spent their days hunting and gathering food like berries and mushrooms.

Instead of our busy cities, they lived surrounded by nature. When the sun set, they would gather around a fire for light and warmth.

Once upon a time, there was a young boy named Jono who lived during this fascinating era. Jono had shaggy blond hair and was surprisingly strong for his age. He had a sister named Jada, who shared his trademark knobbly nose. Jono and Jada were the best of friends and always stuck together.

My best pal is my wolfhound, Guff. We stumbled upon him as a tiny puppy, right outside a bear’s den. It was a nerve-racking discovery, but we couldn’t bear the thought of leaving him vulnerable.

Fearing for Guff’s safety, we brought him home and cared for him with all our might. And from that moment on, he has become an inseparable part of our lives.

Back in the Stone Age, life wasn’t easy for kids. They had to pitch in and assist their parents with many challenging chores, leaving little time for fun and games.

Jono and Jada were responsible children who always lent a hand to their family in completing their everyday duties.

Did you know that mammoths go through multiple tooth replacements in their lifetime, just like humans lose their baby teeth and grow new ones? It’s pretty incredible!

Anyway, there’s this place called a marshy meadow, and it’s like a treasure trove of mammoth teeth. The thing is, mammoths sometimes lose their teeth while chowing down on the tasty grass there. So, my friends Jono and Jada, they like to go there and look for the discarded teeth.

I love helping out in the forest by picking berries. It’s not a difficult task at all because there are countless berries to choose from! And let me tell you, these berries are absolutely scrumptious! Sometimes, I can’t resist taking a little nibble.

My mom always wonders how we can spend so much time in the bush and only come back with a few berries. She just can’t figure it out!

There’s this special area behind the forest where the ground feels slippery and soft. It’s such a cool spot to explore!

When I dug beneath the ashes of a fire, I stumbled upon a remarkable find. It was the same soil, but something was different this time – it had transformed into a solid, sturdy substance.

But I had to be extremely cautious when carrying these new creations back to my family in the valley. These tools were precious, and I didn’t want anything to happen to them during the journey.

As I make my way to the valley, I always enjoy strolling by the river.

When I arrive, I notice that the villagers have an interesting way of catching fish. They use sticks and handmade baskets, and it’s quite fascinating to watch. Sometimes, I even join in and lend a hand.

But there’s something else that always catches my eye. It’s Guff, the playful pup, who jumps into the water for a refreshing bath. It’s such a delightful sight to see.

In the Stone Age, money didn’t exist. When families needed something they couldn’t make on their own, they had to trade for it.

Neighboring families would come together to exchange their goods. Jono and Jada were always thrilled to see what their neighbors would bring.

But as the sun sank lower in the sky, signaling the end of another busy day, the entire village would come together by the warm glow of the roaring fire. In this game, you get to imagine yourself as a person living in the Stone Age. You can pretend to be part of a valley community and experience what life was like back then.

Your task is to explore the valley and gather various items. These items can be traded at the building site, where you’ll see your settlement thrive and expand.

Now, let’s talk about how to set up the game and get started!

1. First, I’d suggest putting the game board right in the center of the table. It’s the heart of the game and it’s important to have it easily accessible for everyone.
2. Now it’s time to choose your color! Pick a color that speaks to you and grab the settlement with the mammoth sculpture in that color. As the game progresses, you’ll be placing goods and huts on your settlement. Also, each player should take their player figure and marker, both in their chosen color. Place your figure on the building site in the middle of the board, and put your marker in front of you. Throughout the game, you’ll be moving your figure around the board to gather different goods. If you’re playing with less than 4 players, just tuck away the unused figures and markers in the box.

Alright, let’s get started! Here’s how you set up the game board for My First Stone Age:

First, grab the goods and put them in their proper spots on the board. If you have 3 or 4 players, you’ll need 4 of each good – berries, fish, pots, arrowheads, and teeth. But if you’re playing with just 2 players, you’ll only need 3 of each. The extras can be put back in the box. Don’t forget to place 1 of each good on the trading post too.

Now it’s time to arrange the rest of the goods. Put the teeth with the mammoths in the swamp, place the berries by the bushes in the forest, the pots in the clay area, the arrowheads with the artisans on the mountain, and the fish by the fishermen in the river.

And that’s it! You’re all set up and ready to start playing. Have fun exploring the Stone Age!

First things first, let’s set up the game:

• I shuffle the hut tokens face down, so we can’t see the goods. Then, I create three piles of five huts each and place them on the three hut spaces at the bottom left of the board. After that, I flip the first tile of each pile face up.
• I put the two dog tokens on the designated spaces on the board.
• Next, I shuffle the forest tokens and place them face down around the game board. We should have four tokens above and below the board, and three tokens to the left and right.

Now, let’s talk about the objective of the game:

Your goal is to collect different goods and spend them at the building site to construct huts.

The first player to build three huts will be the winner of the game.

The Game Play

After we’ve completed our turn, it’s the next player’s chance to go.

1. Flip Over a Forest Token

At the start of your turn, you’ll flip over one of the forest tokens. These tokens are normally face down, so it’s a surprise to see what’s underneath. Each token has something different, which will tell you what you need to do on your turn.

For example, you might flip over a token that tells you to move your figure to a specific location, or maybe it instructs you to perform a certain action.

To start the game, all you need is a die and a game board. The goal is simple: move your figure in the direction of the arrows, and the number of spaces you move is determined by the number of pips on the die.

As you play, you’ll notice that the game board is filled with different spaces. Some spaces have special instructions or actions, such as “Move forward 2 spaces” or “Go back to start.” These spaces add an extra element of surprise and strategy to the game, so keep an eye out for them!

Remember, the goal of the game is to be the first player to reach the end of the game board. So keep rolling the die, moving your figure, and using your strategic thinking to outsmart your opponents.

Whenever you move to a new space, you have the opportunity to take action. The type of action you can take depends on the space you land on.

When I land here, I can do two things: build a hut (if I want to) and turn all forest tokens face down (which I have to do). Here’s what happens:

• Build a hut – Do I have all the goods shown on one of the available huts? If I do, I take those goods from behind my settlement and put them back where they belong on the board (berries go to the berry space, fish to the fish space, and so on). Then I can build that hut by placing it in one of the three slots on my settlement. But if I don’t have enough goods to build any of the huts, I can’t place a hut on my settlement this turn. Remember, I can only build one hut per turn. Did I build a hut this turn? Then I need to reveal a new hut (the one that was hidden underneath the hut I just built). And if there are no more huts left in that pile, from now on, only two face-up huts will be available.
• Dog tokens – A dog token is like a wild card. That means when I want to build a hut, I can use a dog token instead of one of the goods I need. I return one dog token to the dog space and pay one less good than what the hut shows. Then I can place the hut in a slot on my settlement. And if I have both dog tokens, I can use them both when building a hut.
