Game Rules for Age of War
Introduction
Welcome to Age of War! In this game, you’ll be transported back in time to an era filled with mighty warriors, epic battles, and strategic conquests. As a commander, your task is to build and defend your civilization, conquer enemy lands, and emerge as the supreme ruler.
Objective
Your objective in Age of War is to be the first player to earn 15 victory points. You can acquire victory points by building structures, defeating enemy units, and accomplishing various objectives throughout the game.
Setup
To start the game, each player chooses a civilization and takes their respective deck of cards. The game board is placed in the center of the table, and the victory point tokens are placed nearby. Each player starts with a small starter army, consisting of a few units and structures.
Gameplay
Age of War is played over a series of rounds, with each round consisting of several phases.
1. Recruit: During the Recruit phase, players can deploy new units and structures to strengthen their armies and defenses. This is done by playing cards from your hand and paying the required resources.
2. Battle: The Battle phase is where the real action happens. Players take turns attacking each other by rolling a set of dice. The outcome of the dice roll determines the success or failure of the attack. Defeating enemy units and structures will earn you victory points.
3. Regroup: After the battles have been resolved, the Regroup phase allows players to replenish their resources, draw new cards, and prepare for the next round. Managing your resources effectively is crucial for long-term success.
4. Objective: Throughout the game, players will be presented with various objectives, such as capturing a specific territory or building a certain structure. Accomplishing these objectives will earn you additional victory points.
Victory
The game continues until one player reaches 15 victory points. That player is declared the winner and hailed as the supreme ruler of the land. If multiple players reach 15 victory points in the same round, the player with the highest total victory points wins.
Conclusion
You are now ready to embark on your journey through the Age of War. Gather your forces, make strategic decisions, and may your civilization stand the test of time. The fate of the land is in your hands. Good luck, commander!
- I’m going to tell you the first thing we need to do is put all the castle cards on the table where we can all see them.
- Next, let’s put the dice close to the cards so we can reach them easily.
- Lastly, we need to pick someone to go first. It can be anyone!
How to Play the Game
So here’s the deal: Age of War is a game that we play in turns. It starts with one person, and then we go around the table, taking turns in a clockwise direction. Simple, right?
Now, on your turn, the first thing you gotta do is roll some dice. This is how you muster your troops and get ready for battle. You’ve got different kinds of troops: infantry, archery, cavalry, and daimyos. Each troop type is important in its own way.
The goal of the game is to conquer a castle. But it’s not just any castle; it’s the last one in the center of the table. Pretty epic, huh?
What Happens During a Turn
So let me break it down for you. Each turn, your task is to try and conquer a castle. Sounds simple enough, right?
At the start of your turn, you grab all seven dice and give them a good old shake. Then you have a decision to make. Do you want to start conquering a castle right away, or do you want to reroll your dice? If you choose to reroll, though, you gotta give up one of your dice for the rest of the turn. Tough call, huh?
When you want to conquer a castle in this game, you start by choosing a faceup castle card. Then, you get to fill one of the battle lines on that card. To fill a battle line, you need to place dice on the line that match all the symbols. After that, you roll the dice that you have left.
Each time you roll the dice, you have to decide whether to fill another battle line on the castle you chose or lose one of your dice and roll the rest again.
This process keeps going until you either conquer the castle by filling all the battle lines or you lose your last die. When your turn is over, it’s the next player’s turn to play.
Finding a Match
If the symbols on one or more dice I roll match all the symbols of a battle line, I can fill that battle line. To do this, I will simply place the matching dice on the card, covering up the battle line. The dice that I use to fill a battle line cannot be rolled again during my turn.
I am allowed to fill only one battle line per roll, and the order in which I fill them doesn’t matter. I can choose to fill a battle line on any castle card that is face up on the table or in front of one of my opponents.
Remember: Once I fill my first battle line for the turn, I am not allowed to fill battle lines on any other cards during that same turn. All the battle lines I fill must be on the same castle card.
Imagine this: you’re playing a game and there comes a point where you don’t want to fill your battle line. It may sound strange, but it happens sometimes. Well, guess what? You’re in luck! You have the power to choose! Instead of filling your battle line, you can just lose a die. How cool is that?
A Battle Line Like No Other
When it comes to battling, infantry battle lines are the ones to watch out for. They’re marked by a number and a \ symbol. You’ll know it’s an infantry battle line when you see one or more dice displaying \ symbols (\,\,\ and \,\,\,). In order to complete an infantry battle line, you need to have a total of \ symbols that is equal to or greater than the number shown on the battle line.
When it comes to winning a castle at the center of the table, you don’t have to fill up the special daimyo battle line. But if you want to take over a castle in front of your opponent, you do need to fill up that special daimyo battle line.
Taking Over a Castle
Once you’ve filled up all the battle lines on a castle card, you have successfully conquered it. Place the card faceup in front of you.
At the end of the game, you’ll score points based on the values shown on each faceup castle card you’ve conquered.
Taking Over a Clan
Castle cards belong to different clans, which are indicated by the color and clan icon on the card. When you’ve conquered all the castles of a clan, you’ve conquered the entire clan. Flip those cards facedown and stack them, with the card showing point values on top.
When the game reaches its conclusion, you will score the points displayed on the back of the top card instead of the points shown on the front of the cards.
It’s important to note that castle cards that are face-down cannot be conquered by other players.
The End of the Game
The game comes to an end when a player successfully conquers the final castle from the center of the table. At this point, all players calculate their scores. This includes adding up the points from any face-up castle cards they have in front of them, as well as the topmost card from any conquered clan piles they possess.
The player with the highest number of points becomes the winner. If there is a tie, the tied player with the most conquered castles is declared the winner. If there is still a tie, the tied player with the most conquered clans is declared the winner. And finally, if there is still a tie, all tied players share the victory.
