Aggravation Game Rules
Hey there! Let’s dive into the exciting world of Aggravation! If you’re a fan of board games, you’re in for a treat. Aggravation is a classic game that’s been around for quite some time, and today I want to walk you through the rules.
Are you ready? Great, let’s get started!
Aggravation is a game that can be played by 2 to 6 players, and the goal is simple – you want to be the first player to move all of your marbles around the game board and into your home base. Sounds pretty straightforward, right? Well, there’s a catch. The other players are also trying to do the same thing, and they can send your marbles back to the start if they land on the same spot as you. Talk about a nail-biter!
To begin the game, each player chooses a color and places their four marbles in their starting area. The game board consists of a cross-shaped track with spaces for each player to move their marbles along. There are also shortcuts along the way that can help you move faster, but beware! These shortcuts can be dangerous, as they are also the spots where other players can send you back to the start.
On your turn, you roll the dice and move one of your marbles that number of spaces. The trick is to strategically choose which marble to move and where to move it. You can split your moves among different marbles, or you can move the same marble multiple times if you roll doubles. There’s a lot of decision-making involved, and that’s what makes the game so exciting!
As you navigate the game board, you’ll want to avoid landing on spaces occupied by other players. If you do, you’ll have to send their marble back to the start and replace it with one of your own. This can be a real game-changer, so it’s important to plan your moves carefully.
The first player to get all of their marbles into their home base is the winner! It takes a good mix of luck and strategy to come out on top in this game, so make sure to keep your wits about you and watch out for those shortcuts.
Now that you know the rules of Aggravation, it’s time to gather your friends or family, set up the game board, and let the fun begin! May the best player win!
Remember, the most important thing is to have a great time and enjoy the thrill of the game. So roll the dice, make your moves, and let the Aggravation begin!
In this game, you and your opponents will compete to move all four of your marbles from the starting point to your home. It’s not necessary to annoy your opponents in order to win, but it can definitely give you an advantage!
Getting Started
First, each player will choose a set of four marbles that match their color. Then, place all extra marbles in the box.
Next, everyone will take turns rolling the die. The player who rolls the highest number will go first, and play will proceed clockwise.
How to Play
When it’s my turn, I’ll roll the die once and try to move one of my marbles. If I roll a 6, I’ll get an extra turn!
Starting a Marble
Before I can move any of my marbles around the board, I need to get them out of the BASE row and into the START hole. Take a look at Figure 1 for reference. I can start a marble on a roll of either 1 or 6. Once I have a marble in the START, I can start moving it on my next turn.
Figure 1 |
Moving My Marbles
Once I’ve started a marble, I’ll move it clockwise along the gamepath holes. I move it the number of holes shown on the die roll, counting every hole, whether it’s empty or occupied by another player’s marble.
So, here’s the deal: once you get a marble on the gamepath, you have some options when you roll a 1 or a 6. You can either put a new marble into the START hole or move one of your marbles already on the path the same number of holes as your die roll. Just remember, if you have a marble in the START hole, you can’t put a new one there.
Now, when it comes to your opponents, you can jump over their marbles or land on them. But don’t even think about jumping over or landing on your own marbles. If one of your own marbles is blocking your way and stopping you from moving another marble the full count on the die, you’re out of luck.
But here’s where things get interesting: Getting Aggravated!
If an opponent lands on one of my marbles exactly, their marble aggravates mine, forcing it to return to my BASE row. In turn, their marble occupies the hole I just left behind. I can be aggravated anywhere on the board, except in my BASE or HOME positions.
If my marble gets aggravated and sent back to my BASE, I can move it back to the START hole on my next turn by rolling a 1 or a 6, just like I mentioned before.
By the way, if one of my opponent’s marbles is in my START hole when I roll a 1 or a 6, I have a chance to retaliate! I can move one of my marbles from my BASE into START, aggravating their marble and sending it back to their BASE.
Oh, and here are some shortcuts you can take!
Hey, let’s talk about a cool game called Star Hole Shortcut! Here’s how it works:
If your marble lands in a Star hole by the exact count, you can move it clockwise around the Star holes on your next turn. The number of holes you can move is determined by your die roll.
Once you’re ready to leave the Star holes, you can exit onto the path that leads to your HOME area. Then, you can keep moving down the path by the remaining count on your die roll. You can even choose to exit from an earlier Star hole if you feel like it. Cool, right?
That’s all there is to it! Have fun playing Star Hole Shortcut!
Figure 2:
A Shortcut Known as the Star Hole
So, here’s the deal: you find yourself in Star hole (A). You roll a 5 and navigate your marble through the Star holes until it reaches the path to your HOME (B). With 2 moves remaining on your die roll, you guide your marble down the path to hole (C).
There’s something special about the hole in the center of the gameboard – it’s a super shortcut. We call it the Center Hole Shortcut. The catch is, you can only enter the Center hole if you roll the exact number on the die. Take a look at Figure 3 for more details. (You can only move into the Center hole from a Star hole if you roll a 1).
Once you make your way into the Center hole, there’s only one way out – by rolling a 1 on a future turn.
When it’s time to exit the Center hole, head towards the Star hole that’s closest to the path leading to your HOME area. Of course, if you feel like it, you can also choose to exit to any other Star hole.
Figure 3: Center Hole Shortcut
When playing the Marble game, I found a cool shortcut that I want to share with you. Let me walk you through it:
In this game, the marble starts in hole (A). To move the marble, I rolled a 3, which allowed me to move it 3 spaces to the Center hole (B). On my next turn, luck was on my side and I rolled a 1. I used that roll to move the marble to the Star hole closest to my home (C). Pretty neat, right?
Shortcuts in this game are optional, but they have their advantages. They can help you move around the board faster. However, you need to be careful because your opponents can “aggravate” your marble if it’s in the Center or Star holes. So, always keep that in mind before taking a shortcut!
Getting Home Safe
Now, let’s talk about the goal of the game: getting your marbles into HOME. There are 4 holes in HOME, and you can enter any of them by counting exactly. But here’s the catch: you can’t jump over your own marbles. So, as you try to move each marble into HOME, remember this rule. It’s an important one!
Figure 4: Making It Back Safely
So, here’s the situation: I have my marble in hole (A). Then, I roll the dice and get a 3. That means I get to move my marble 3 spaces and place it into the empty hole in HOME (B).
Now, what if I roll the dice and end up with too many moves to actually get my marble into my HOME area? In that case, I can’t move that marble at all.
But don’t worry, there’s a solution! Instead of moving that marble, I can try moving one of my other marbles that are still in the game. If I don’t have any other marbles left, then my turn is over.
The End of the Game
The ultimate goal is to be the first to move all 4 of your marbles into your HOME area. That’s when you win!
