Switch game rules – how to play switch

By: Dennis B. B. Taylor

Welcome to SWITCH!

Hey there! SWITCH is a super fun twist on the classic card game, Crazy Eights. It’s a popular game in the UK and New Zealand, and we’re going to play it just like they do on Cardgames.io. Are you ready? Let’s dive in!

The goal of SWITCH is simple: be the first player to get rid of all the cards in your hand. But here’s the twist – some cards have special powers that can be combined to create awesome combos. That’s what makes SWITCH so exciting!

THE CARDS & THE DEAL

Before we get started, here’s what you’ll need: a deck of 52 cards for 2-4 players, or two shuffled decks for 4-8 players. Got it? Great!

Now, let’s deal out the cards. Each player gets seven cards. The remaining cards go in a pile in the middle of the table, and we’ll turn the top card face-up to start the discard pile. Oh, and the youngest player goes first – lucky them!

THE PLAY

When it’s my turn to play, I can choose to play one or more cards from my hand. To do that, I just need to make sure the card matches either the suit or rank of the card on top of the pile. But if I can’t add a card or don’t want to, I have to draw a penalty card from the draw pile. Then it’s the next player’s turn.

The game keeps going in a circle, with each player taking their turn until someone plays their very last card.

Playing Multiple Cards

Here’s something cool: I’m allowed to play more than one card of the same rank. For example, if the top card on the pile is a 5 of Hearts, and I have a 5 of Hearts and a 5 of Clubs, I can play both cards. I’ll start by playing the 5 of Hearts, then I’ll end my turn by playing the 5 of Clubs. And guess what? If I had three 5’s, I could play all three of them!

Cards with Special Powers

Oh, and did I mention that some cards have special powers? They can do some pretty cool stuff!

Ace: When I play an Ace card, I can choose any color for the next player to follow.

2: If the next player has to draw cards, I can make them draw even more by playing a 2 card. I can stack multiple 2 cards to increase the penalty.

7: When I play a 7 card, I get to play all the other cards of the same suit from my hand. And if the last card I play is an action card, its action is activated.

8: By playing an 8 card, I can skip the next player’s turn.

10: If I play a 10 card, I can reverse the direction of play.

Black Jack: When I play a Black Jack card, the next player has to draw 5 cards. And if they add more Black Jack cards to the pile, they’ll have to draw even more penalty cards.

Red Jack: One Red Jack can block one Black Jack. But if two Black Jacks are played, you would need to play two Red Jacks to block them both.

Black Queen: When you play a Black Queen, you get to swap your hand with the player on your left.

How to Win

The winner is the first player to put their last card in the discard pile.
