Reef game rules – how to play reef

By: Dennis B. B. Taylor

Welcome to the World of REEF!

Hey there! In this game, you get to be the reef itself! How cool is that? You’ll be growing and developing, showing off all sorts of colors and patterns. Your mission? Create the most magnificent reef ever seen! Ready to dive in? Let’s go!

Getting Started

First things first, let’s set up the game. Sort the coral pieces by color and create four different piles for each. The size of each pile will depend on how many players are joining in on the fun. Any leftover pieces can just go back in the box. Easy peasy! We’ll also do the same thing with the point tokens, sorting them by value. Got it? Great! Let’s keep going.

So, here’s how this game works: first, we each get a three-point token. This token will show where we’ll collect our tokens throughout the game. Make sure you keep it in front of you, okay? Now, let’s shuffle the cards and deal two to each of us. Remember, keep your cards hidden from the others! The rest of the cards go face-down to the side.

Now, it’s time to get our player boards. We each get one randomly. On our boards, we’ll place one coral piece of each color in the middle spaces. Oh, and don’t forget to leave a spot next to your board for a discard pile. The left-over cards from earlier go in the middle of the table, face-up.

We’re almost ready to dive into the game! Grab three cards from the deck and place them next to it, face-up. These will be our card display. And with that, we’re all set to begin!

Let’s Dive into the Gameplay!

When we play the game, we take turns, going around the group in a clockwise direction. So, it’s your turn, and now it’s my turn. Each player, including you and me, has to do something during our turn. We have two options: we can either take a card from the display or the deck and add it to our hand, or we can play a card from our hand and make our reef grow.

If you choose to draw a card, you have two choices. You can pick one from the three cards in the display, or you can take one from the deck that’s in the middle of the playing area. But be careful! If you decide to take a card from the display, the display has to be refreshed for the next player.

When you choose to play a card, you’ll start by taking the coral pieces that are on the top of that card. You can then put those pieces anywhere you want on your player board. After that, you’ll score the pattern that’s shown at the bottom of the card.

If the pattern doesn’t appear on your reef, nothing happens. But if it does appear, you’ll earn points. And if it appears multiple times, you’ll earn even more points. The game keeps going until either all the coral pieces or the deck of cards is used up.

END OF GAME

Hey there! I’m Ellie, a resident of Northeast Tennessee. I’m a big fan of animals, fantasy fiction novels, and spending time in nature. I’m lucky to have an amazing husband who loves me just as much as our two fur babies. Being part of this awesome community brings me so much joy.

Let me tell you about this really cool game I’ve been playing. It’s called Coral Colors, and it’s a lot of fun! The goal is to create beautiful patterns using different colored coral pieces. But here’s the catch – when one color of coral pieces runs out, the game ends. Exciting, right?

Now, there are two ways the game can end. First, if all the coral pieces of one color are used up. When that happens, we play one final round and then the game is over. The second way the game can end is if we run out of cards in the deck. Don’t worry, it’s not too difficult to understand. I’ll explain everything!

Okay, so after the game ends, we start scoring. This is where it gets interesting. We add up the points from the cards we have in our hands and the patterns we’ve created on the coral board. The player with the most points wins the game. It’s all about strategy and creating beautiful designs!

Coral Colors is such a fantastic game. It challenges your creativity and keeps you on your toes until the very end. Trust me, if you enjoy games that make you think and strategize, you’ll love Coral Colors. Give it a try and see for yourself!
