KLOEPPER
Hey there! Let me tell you all about Kloepper, an exciting card game that you can play with three of your friends. The main objective of the game is to be the first player to reach 30 points and emerge victorious!
Now, here’s how the game works. You and your teammates will be playing together, but keep in mind that partnerships change with every round depending on which cards each player has. It adds a fun element of surprise to the game!
SETUP
Before we begin, we need to make a small modification to the deck of cards. We’ll remove all the cards that have a value of 8 or lower. This will leave us with a deck of 24 cards.
Alright, now let’s get things started. We need someone to keep score, so one of the players can volunteer for that. The player sitting on their left will be the first dealer, and then we’ll rotate clockwise for every new round. The dealer will shuffle the deck and deal each player 6 cards. They’ll do this by dealing 3 cards at a time.
When you play this game, if you have both of the black queens in your hand, you’ll have a partner. The other players will also find partners. But if you’re the only one with both black queens, you have a choice. You can ask someone to be your partner by requesting the ace of any suit that’s not the trump suit. Or, you can decide to go it alone and play by yourself. If you choose to go alone, the other three players will pair up and become partners for that round.
How the Cards Rank and What They’re Worth
The ranking of the cards in this game depends on whether they’re in the trump suit or not. In the trump suit, the two black queens, all of the jacks, and the diamond suit are the most powerful cards and trump all the others. Amongst the trump cards, the queen of clubs is the highest, followed by the queen of spades, the jack of clubs, the jack of spades, the jack of hearts, the jack of diamonds, and then the ace, 10, king, queen, and 9 of diamonds.
In the non-trump suits, the ace is the highest, followed by the 10, king, queen, and 9. The suits also have a ranking. Clubs are the highest, followed by spades, and then hearts.
When you play cards, each card has a value associated with it for scoring. Aces are worth 11 points, 10s are worth 10 points, kings are worth 4 points, queens are worth 3 points, jacks are worth 2 points, and 9s are worth nothing.
LET’S PLAY!
The game begins with the player to the left of the dealer. You can play any card you want, and the other players must follow suit if they can. If they can’t follow suit, they can play any card, including trumps. The player who plays the highest trump card (if applicable) or the highest card of the suit originally led, wins the trick. The winner of the trick adds it to their score pile and leads the next trick.
TIME TO KNOCK!
Before the second trick, if I have a black queen card, I can knock. That means I’m confident I can win all the tricks. But even if I don’t have a queen, I can still knock to show that I’ll win at least one trick. The decision to knock will affect the scoring later on.
SCORING
After the round, the partnerships will calculate their scores. If the team with the black queen card scores at least 61 points, they get 2 game points. If a player decides to go alone and they score at least 61 points, they get 6 game points. If they score at least 91 points, they earn 4 points for the team or 12 points if a player went alone. And if they manage to win all the tricks, they will earn 6 points for the team or 18 points if a player went alone.
So here’s how the scoring works in this card game. If the non-queen partnerships managed to score 60 or more points, they get 2 points. But if the other team went alone and they still scored 60, they get a bigger reward of 4 points. If they scored at least 61 points, they earn 4 points, and if the other team went alone and still scored 61, they get an even bigger reward of 6 points.
Now, let’s talk about what happens if there’s a knocking. Things get a little different here. If the black queens are successful, they score a whopping 12 points. But if they have the courage to go alone and don’t succeed, the other team celebrates with 30 points.
Now, if the other team also knocks and they manage to take at least one trick, they score 24 points. But if they fail, the black hearts get a surprise boost of 24 points instead of the usual 12. It’s all about seizing the right opportunity!
And that’s how the game ends!
Hey there, let me tell you how this game works. The goal is to reach 30 points before anyone else. It’s a simple concept, but it can get pretty intense. You see, if more than one player manages to reach 30 points in a single round, we keep playing until someone pulls ahead and wins.
