Welcome to Domino Hearts
Hey there! Have you ever played Domino Hearts? It’s a cool twist on the classic game that adds an extra layer of excitement. In this version, we’re not only trying to avoid the heart cards, but also aiming to be the first one to get rid of all our cards. Ready to dive in? Let’s go!
The Cards and the Deal
First things first, here’s what you need: a standard 52-card French deck. To kick things off, let’s determine who’s going to be the dealer and the scorekeeper for the game. Each player should pick a card from the deck and the person who draws the lowest card will be the first dealer. They’ll also keep score throughout the whole game. Easy, right? Now, let’s get ready for some heart-pounding fun!
I’m going to explain to you how to play a card game called “Hearts.” First, the dealer needs to collect all the cards, mix them up really well, and then give six cards to each player, one at a time. The rest of the cards will be the draw pile.
Time to Play!
The player sitting on the left side of the dealer gets to go first. They can choose any card from their hand, as long as it’s not a heart. Hearts have special rules. The card they choose is played face up in the center of the table, starting the first round. After that, the other players have to play a card from their hand that matches the suit of the card that was played first. If they don’t have a matching card, they have to draw from the draw pile until they find one. Once all the cards in the draw pile are used up, players can play any card they want if they can’t match the suit of the first card. The player with the highest card in the same suit as the first card played wins that round.
When all the cards in the draw pile are used up and I can’t play a card that matches the suit, I have the option to play a heart. By doing so, I break the suit and hearts are now in play. From that moment on, I can start a round with a heart card or play one if I don’t have a card that matches the suit that was led.
If I run out of cards in my hand, I’m out of the round. The game continues until only one player is left with cards. When that happens, the round comes to an end.
SCORING
I earn 1 point for each heart card I have. The player who has the last card(s) in their hand also earns points for any hearts they have. The game goes on until one or more players reach a total of 31 points.
WINNING
The game ends when a player reaches 31 points or more. At that point, the player with the lowest score is the winner.
