Curse of Strahd

Hey there! I wanted to tell you about this awesome game called Curse of Strahd. It’s a super fun Dungeons and Dragons campaign that you can play with 3 to 7 of your friends. We have a Dungeon Master, or DM for short, who runs the game and guides us through an exciting adventure in the land of Barovia. Our goal is to make allies, complete quests, and level up our characters so that we can take on the ultimate enemy, Strahd Von Zarovich!

Setting Up

Before we start the campaign, our DM reads through the book and gets to know the world and the characters in it. We also get to create our own Player Characters, which we call PCs. It’s so much fun coming up with our characters and imagining how they fit into this magical world!

Once we’re all set, we pick a date and time for our first session. Our DM makes sure to have all the necessary materials and maps ready for the game. And you know what? I highly recommend that our DM takes a quick look at the book before each session, just to refresh their memory on what’s coming up. It makes the game so much more enjoyable for everyone!

The Exciting World of Gameplay

Playing Curse of Strahd is just like any other thrilling DND campaign. There are numerous ways to approach it, and none of them are considered wrong; they’re simply different. As a player, you have the freedom to choose how you want to experience the game. Some Dungeon Masters (DMs) prefer to stick strictly to the book, while others use it as a reference to create a truly unique and personalized adventure for their players.

Getting Started in the Adventure

When you embark on this journey, the DM has a variety of options at their disposal. The book offers several opening sequences that can introduce players to the mesmerizing world of Barovia. However, the DM can also exercise their creativity and come up with their own captivating introduction.

In addition, the DM has the power to decide the starting level for the players, as well as the series of adventures they will encounter in this captivating world.

Powering Up Your Characters

As the game progresses and players accomplish objectives, displaying their heroic feats, they will have the opportunity to level up their characters. This means they can enhance their abilities, acquire new skills, and become even more formidable in their quest.

When playing Curse of Strahd, leveling up is achieved through milestone leveling, which is at the discretion of the Dungeon Master (DM). The Dungeon Master may refer to the book for recommendations on the levels required for the party to encounter specific events in the game, but ultimately the decision lies with the DM.

Time to Wrap Up

At some point, the players will reach the end of the campaign and will face the final challenge of defeating Strahd, their ultimate enemy, and cleansing the land of evil. This will culminate in a climactic battle within Castle Ravenloft. The outcome of this battle will have a significant impact on the fate of everyone residing in Barovia.

Game Over

If you’re able to succeed, you’ll be able to free the land and return to your previous life. But if you fail, it’s likely that you won’t make it. Everyone in the land, including any surviving players, will be stuck in Barovia until a more skilled group can come along and save them from the evil that lurks there.
