Variants for Valeria Card Kingdoms

Valeria: Card Kingdoms Variant Rules

Hey there! I wanted to chat with you about some cool variant rules for Valeria: Card Kingdoms. The designers have come up with some awesome ways to make the game even more fun and interesting. Let me share a few of my favorite variants with you.

First off, there’s the “Rogues Galore” variant. It’s a great way to spice things up and add an element of surprise to the game. In this variant, you shuffle all the Rogue cards together and deal them face-down to each player. Throughout the game, you can reveal a Rogue card from your hand instead of playing a citizen card. This can really change the game dynamics and keep everyone on their toes!

Another exciting variant is the “Monster Mayhem” rule. If you’re feeling adventurous, this is the one for you. With this variant, you’ll include all monster cards in the monster deck, even if you’re playing with fewer players. This means you’ll be encountering more monsters on your quests, which can make things a bit tougher. But don’t worry, defeating those monsters will earn you extra rewards, so it’s definitely worth taking on the challenge!

Now, let’s talk about the “King’s Favor” variant. This rule gives you the opportunity to curry favor with the King and gain extra victory points. During the game, you can give up a resource card to draw two more cards from the deck. This can really give you an advantage and help you build up your kingdom faster. However, be careful not to give up too many resources, as you’ll still need them to complete quests and gain victory points!

Lastly, there’s the “Villainous Victory” rule. This variant puts a twist on the end game conditions and adds a competitive edge. In the standard game, the game ends when a certain number of duchy cards have been purchased. But with this variant, the game ends when a certain number of villain cards have been defeated. So make sure to keep an eye on those villains and plan your strategies accordingly!

Those are just a few of the exciting variants you can try in Valeria: Card Kingdoms. Each one brings a unique twist to the game and adds an extra dimension of strategy and excitement. So why not give them a try and see how they change up your gaming experience? Have fun and may your kingdom prosper!

Hey there! I’ve got some exciting updates for you about the rule changes in 5-player Valeria: Card Kingdoms. The changes below will help make your gameplay even more awesome. Remember, all the standard rules still apply.

Let’s start with the setup.

Setup

Monster Cards

Hey there! Let me break down what you need to know about Monster cards. In each stack, you’ll find six different cards. Take a look:

Citizen Cards
Domain Cards
Resting Player

Harvest Phase

Now, when it’s the Active Player’s turn, the Resting Player won’t get any Resources during this phase.

End Phase

Here’s an interesting thing – each time the dice move on to the next Active Player, the Rest Token also moves to the left. Pretty cool, huh?

Solo Variant

In the solo game, I get to play against a virtual player. It’s an exciting challenge! Imagine this: when a Duke of the Realm turns evil and becomes the Dark Lord, the entire Kingdom of Valeria is in danger. It’s up to me to step up and defend the Kingdom, taking on the forces of evil and defeating the Dark Lord all by myself!

Let me tell you about the setup. After selecting my Duke card, I randomly place another Duke face down above the Monster stacks. This Duke is a traitor, the Dark Lord. At the end of the game, the Dark Lord earns points based on the Monsters they have captured, as well as the Citizens and Domains under their control.

Now, let’s talk about the game play. It starts with the Roll Phase, just like in the standard rules. Since I’m the only player, I get to roll the dice at the beginning of each round.

Harvest Phase

Hey there! Let’s talk about the Harvest Phase! During this phase, I get to collect resources from the LEFT side of all of my activated Citizens. Isn’t that cool? Oh, and if a card tells me to take resources from another player, I just take them from the Bank instead. Easy peasy!

Action Phase

Now we move on to the Action Phase. Just like in the standard rules, I can take actions. If a card tells me to take resources from another player, I can take them from the Bank or the card stacks. And if a card tells me to take a Monster, I simply grab the top card from the leftmost Monster stack. It’s that simple!

Monsters Phase

Time for some monster action! In Valeria: Card Kingdoms, there are 5 stacks of Monsters. During the Roll Phase, the value on each die I roll determines which Monster stack gets activated. So exciting!

So, here’s how it works: when I roll the dice, the number I get determines which Monster stack is activated. The leftmost stack is activated with a roll of 1, the second stack with a roll of 2, and so on. But here’s the thing – the sum of both dice doesn’t activate any Monster stack on its own.

Now, let’s talk about doubles. If I roll a pair of identical numbers, that Monster stack is activated twice. And if I roll a 6, I get to choose which Monster stack I want to activate. But I can’t choose an Exhausted Monster stack, that’s off-limits.

Here’s something to keep in mind: if a Monster stack is exhausted, it won’t be activated when that number comes up on the dice. So, it’s a bummer when that happens.

Okay, time to talk about what happens when a Monster stack is activated. I get to take a card from one of the two Citizen stacks in that column and remove it. That Citizen card will then join the Dark Lord card above the Monster stacks.

But wait, there’s more. If both Citizen stacks in a Monster stack are empty, I have to take a Domain card from that column and place it next to the Dark Lord card.

And that’s how it goes, my friend. Roll the dice, activate Monster stacks, and collect cards. Simple, right?

If you can’t remove a card from that column because all of the stacks in the column are exhausted, let’s see what happens next.

The Second Harvest Phase

This new phase works like when the other players are harvesting in the standard rules. Harvest all the resources from the right side of all your activated citizens, including the citizens you just recruited during this turn’s action phase.

If a card tells you to take from a single player, you’ll take from the bank instead.

The End Phase

Now let’s check the end game conditions. If they haven’t been met, pick up the dice and get ready for the next round.

The End of the Game

The game ends right away if you have defeated all of the monsters.

As the wretched cries of despair are overpowered by the euphoric melodies of the jubilant Citizens, singing your praises far and wide, the Dark Lord seethes with rage at the injustice of his defeat.

But fear not, for your triumphant victory has ushered in an era of light and prosperity for your duchy. You have emerged victorious in this epic game.

However, be aware that the game will come to an abrupt end if a fearsome Monster launches an attack and there are no brave Citizens or powerful Domain cards to defend against it in that particular column.

Alas, if you fail to protect the Kingdom of Valeria, its lands will be ravaged by marauding Monsters, while the Dark Lord claims your duchy and condemns it to eternal shadow.

The echoes of your name will be spat out with venom by future generations, and the Dark Lord will reign over the cursed land for a century. You have been defeated in this game.

Furthermore, the game will reach its conclusion if five stacks of cards are fully depleted. Calculate your final score in the following manner:

  • Add up all the Victory Points earned from defeating the menacing Monsters.
  • Lots of Victory Points from all of my built domains.
  • Lots more Victory Points based on the instructions at the bottom of my Duke card.

Once I’ve counted my points, I’ll reveal the face of the Dark Lord and tally up his points like this:

  • The number of Victory Points accumulated by the monsters that are still alive and in their stacks.
  • The number of Victory Points earned from capturing Domains.
  • The number of Victory Points calculated using the instructions on the Duke card, which includes the surviving monsters, captured Citizens, and captured Domains.

If my score is higher than the Dark Lord’s score, I will have solidified the evil in my lost duchy and secured a voice of influence within Valeria’s royal court. It’s a tough challenge, but I will not give up.

I have managed to escape to the protection of a neighboring Duke, who will help me heal my wounds and gather allies. Together, we will fight to win back my duchy and drive the Dark Lord out of the land. I may have lost the game, but the war is far from over.

However, if my score is lower than the Dark Lord’s score, the infected duchy will remain under the control of evil. Though the darkness will be contained, I must be vigilant and defend the borders against the lurking Monsters. Sleepless nights await me as I anticipate the inevitable resurgence that could bring doom to all of Valeria. I have won the game, but only for now.

Mixed Citizen Variant

Hey there! I’m here to guide you through the rule changes for the Mixed Citizen Variant of Valeria: Card Kingdoms. Don’t worry, it’s not too complicated. Just keep in mind that all the other standard rules still apply, okay?

Let’s Get Started

Setting Up Citizen Cards

First things first, we need to set up the Citizen stacks. It’s pretty simple – just gather all the Citizen Types with the same Activation number and give them a good shuffle. Got it?

Now, depending on how many players you have, you’re going to deal out either 4 or 5 Citizens face down. Oh, and don’t forget to place 1 Citizen face up on top of the stack. We do this for each Activation number. Easy peasy, right?

Quick Example: Let’s say you have Monk cards and Cleric cards. Mix them together and shuffle ’em up. If you’re playing with 4 people, deal out 4 cards face down and put 1 card face up on top. This forms the “1” stack. Simple as that!
