Seafarers Scenario The Forgotten Tribe

By: Dennis B. B. Taylor

I remember this fascinating story about a tribe that was once forgotten by the world. It’s incredible how our modern society can overlook entire groups of people, isn’t it? Let me share the details with you.

Deep in a remote corner of the world, there existed a tribe that no one knew about. The tribe lived in harmony with nature, their lives intertwined with the land and its resources. They possessed wisdom and traditions that had been passed down through generations, but sadly, they were completely unknown to the rest of the world.

Imagine living a life where nobody knew you existed. No one to share your stories with, no one to learn from or trade with. It’s a lonely thought, isn’t it? The world continued on, oblivious to the existence of this remarkable tribe.

But one day, fate intervened. A team of explorers stumbled upon the forgotten tribe during an expedition. They were amazed by what they found. This hidden community possessed a wealth of knowledge about how to live in harmony with the natural world. They had developed unique ways of farming, foraging, and preserving food that preserved the delicate balance of their ecosystem. Their traditions and rituals reinforced their connection to the Earth and its resources.

Can you imagine the excitement of those explorers? To stumble upon a civilization that had been untouched by modern society’s influence, to find a way of life that had remained unspoiled by industrialization and globalization. It must have been like stepping back in time, witnessing the wonders of a world forgotten.

The explorers knew they had a responsibility to share this discovery with the world. The knowledge and wisdom of the forgotten tribe could teach us valuable lessons about sustainability, about the delicate relationship between humans and the environment. They needed to find a way to bridge the gap between this isolated community and the rest of the world.

This story reminds us of the importance of respecting and valuing different cultures and ways of life. There is so much we can learn from one another if we take the time to listen and understand. We must strive to protect and preserve the diversity of our world, both in terms of its natural wonders and its rich tapestry of human cultures.

So let us remember the forgotten tribe, and let us strive to build a world where no community is overlooked or forgotten. Together, we can create a future that celebrates and cherishes the richness and diversity of our world.

Far in the South, I find myself on a long, narrow island. It didn’t take long for our first settlements to spring up. As we explore the surrounding waters, we come across small islands that are already inhabited. To our surprise, these people speak a similar language and know the same legends as us.

It turns out that these islanders are actually descendants of a group of people who got lost at sea. Their ancestors were part of a fleet that arrived on Catan hundreds of years ago. We are overjoyed to be reunited with our long-lost brothers and sisters, and we eagerly offer our help and exchange gifts with them.

Let’s talk about the components of this game. First, we need 6 harbor tokens. These tokens come in different types: 5 special ones that allow for a 2:1 exchange rate for each resource, and 1 generic token that allows for a 3:1 exchange rate.

Next, let’s talk about the terrain and tokens. We need a variety of different terrain types and accompanying tokens for resources. These resources are essential for building and growing our settlements on the island.

Terrain Hexes Number Tokens
Sea 19 2s 1
Desert 3 3s 2
Gold field 2 4s 2
Fields 5 5s 2
Hills 5 6s 2
Mountains 5 8s 2
Pasture 5 9s 2
Forest 5 10s 2
Total: 49 11s 2
12s 1
Total: 18

Additional Components: 8 Catan chits

Setup

Here’s what you need to set up the game: all the components listed above. Take a look at the map diagram to see where everything goes. When that’s done, do the following:

Put the 8 Catan chits on the coastlines that have marks.

So, here’s what we need to do: First, I’ll put the 6 harbor tokens on the marked spots, making sure they’re facing down. Then I’ll turn them over.

Next, I’ll take the 4 cards from the top of the shuffled development card stack and place them on the indicated spots, with their reverse sides facing up.

Now, here’s something you need to remember: the small islands don’t have any number tokens, so they’re empty.

Additional Rules

When you start playing Catan: Seafarers, the first thing you do is build two settlements with roads or ships on the main island. This is just like in the regular version of Catan.

Here’s an important tip to remember: If you decide to build a settlement on the coast, you have the option to place a ship next to it instead of a road.

During the game, you are not allowed to build settlements on the small islands that don’t produce any resources.

The Pirate and The Robber

In this scenario, both the robber and the pirate are part of the game. The robber starts on any desert hex and the pirate starts on the sea hex with a pirate ship symbol.

When someone rolls a “7”, you have the choice to move either the robber or the pirate. However, the robber cannot be moved to any of the small islands.

Once the robber has left the desert hex he started on, he cannot be moved back to it.

Special Ways to Earn Points

When you sail your ship to one of the small islands in Catan, you can earn victory points by collecting the chits placed there. If you build or move a ship on the edge of an island with a chit, you can take that chit and keep it face up in front of you. These chits are worth victory points!

Gifts

The forgotten tribe has three types of gifts: victory points (Catan chits), development cards, and harbors.

  • Development Cards: If you build or move a ship next to a development card, you can take that card. You can use it just like any other development card. However, there are some rules you need to follow. You can only acquire one card per round, and you can’t play a newly-acquired card immediately. And remember, if a victory point card allows you to win the game, you have to reveal it right away!

When you’re building or moving a ship next to a harbor, you get to claim that harbor for yourself. If you have a settlement on the coast, you have to immediately place the harbor on one of the edges next to it. Just remember, harbors can never be placed on adjacent or the same edges. If you don’t have a suitable settlement by the coast, you can save the harbor for later when you do.

Once you’ve claimed a harbor, you can start using it right away, even in the same turn.

The Game’s End

The game will come to an end when a player reaches 13 victory points on their turn.

Custom Setup

You have the freedom to rearrange the terrains and number tokens on the main island however you like. However, be careful not to give the bottom three terrain hexes too favorable number placements. Avoid using 5, 6, 8, or 9 for those.
