To play this game, you’ll need Settlers of Catan and some extra components. Here are the steps to get started:

Embark on a journey through the ancient jungle to achieve victory in the game.

I. Setup

Begin by shuffling the land tiles and creating the game board, just like in a regular game of Settlers of Catan. Then, place the harbor tiles and sea tiles as usual. Once the board is set up, replace the Desert tile with the special Jungle tile (see Additional Components).

Choose a number token (in addition to the tokens already on the island) with a value of 3, 4, 5, 9, 10, or 11. All players must agree on which number to use. Put this number token on the Jungle hex.

The game starts with the Robber on the Jungle hex.

II. Special Rules

The Jungle

When we play the game, we get to explore the Jungle and find some really cool stuff. These things that we find will help us build up our own little kingdoms. And guess what? Whenever we roll the dice and it lands on the number that corresponds to the Jungle, we all get to make some discoveries!

Just like the other places on the map, if we have a settlement next to the Jungle, we’ll get one discovery when that Jungle number comes up. But, if we have a city next to the Jungle, we’ll get two discoveries! That’s pretty awesome, right?

What are Discoveries?

Discoveries are different from other resources because they’re not cards. They’re special little things that we collect and keep track of with Discovery Counters. And the best part is, when we roll a “7” and have to get rid of some resources, the Discovery Counters don’t count towards our limit!

Did you know that Discovery Counters have a special quality? They can’t be taken by the Robber, claimed with a Monopoly card, earned through a Year of Plenty, or used in trades. Pretty cool, huh?

Now, here’s how Discovery Counters work. They’re like little helpers when you want to buy development cards. Each Discovery Counter can replace any one of the three resources needed to buy a card. And get this – you can use up to three Discovery Counters for each card purchase!

Here’s the best part: you can mix and match Discovery Counters with the regular resources. There are no limits! Let me give you an example.
