Let me walk you through the steps on the Action board, one column at a time.
Getting +1 Gold
When you choose this action, you can take a piece of gold from the general supply and add it to your own stash.
Remember: Only one worker can occupy this space during each Work Phase.
What Happens to My Fish?
When I go fishing, some of the fish I catch might end up in a special place called the “Reserve” on my Harbor board. But it’s not just fish that can go there – certain Buildings allow me to put other things in my Reserve too. When I want to take those goods back, I just need to take the Transfer Reserve action and they’ll all go back into my personal supply.
Here’s what you need to know:
- During each Work Phase, only one Worker can use this action space.
- I can’t use the action if my Reserve is empty – there must be something there first.
- When I take the action, I have to clear out my entire Reserve. I can’t leave anything behind. I need to remember that my “Personal Supply” board can only hold a maximum of 12 wood.
Example: You have 3 fish and 2 wood in your Reserve, and there are already 11 wood in your personal supply. So, let’s take all the fish and 1 wood from your Reserve and put them into your personal supply. The remaining 1 wood should be returned to the general supply.
Serving Fish
When you serve fish, you need to put the fish on the empty plates of the Banquet Table. You can serve as many plates as you want, but you have to start with the smallest empty plate.
The numbers on the plates indicate how much fish you have to use. You must put exactly 1 fish on the plate and return the rest to the general supply. Then, you get 1 gold for each plate you served and put it in your personal supply.
Important things to remember:
- Only one worker can occupy this action space during the Work Phase.
- You can’t serve fish if all plates have fish already or if you don’t have enough fish to serve at least one plate.
- The fish on the Banquet Table is used for Elder actions.
Here’s an example: There are already fish on two plates. You decide to fill three more plates, which will cost you a total of 10 fish (3+3+4). In return, you’ll receive 3 gold from the general supply.
Components are Limited
Fish, wood, gold, and Forests are meant to be available in unlimited supply. If you run out, get creative or use the multiplication markers provided for fish and wood. However, everything else is purposely limited.
Build a Building
When you take this action, you can construct one Building from the display, which is located on or next to a supply board. Alternatively, starting from Round 4, you can choose to build a Building from your hand. To do so, pay the Building cost (wood, fish, gold) on the left side of the Building card. Then, place the Building on a free Building space on your Harbor board.
Most Buildings are valuable in terms of Victory Points and will help you grow your fishing company.
- “A” Buildings are helpful, but they don’t give many Victory Points. Some of them even have negative points.
- “B” Buildings are usually more expensive, but they are also useful.
- “C” Buildings are not available until Round 4. You will get a few of them then. Until Round 6, only you can build the Buildings in your hand. If you meet their conditions at the end of the game, they can give you a lot of Victory Points.
Notes:
- In games with 2 players, there are two action spaces like this. Each turn, only one Worker can be put on each space. In games with 3, 4, or 5 players, there is only one action space like this. Each turn, up to three Workers can be put on the space.
If you’re considering taking this action, there are a few things you need to keep in mind. First, make sure you have a Building available and enough free spaces on your Harbor board. Without these, you won’t be able to proceed. Additionally, avoid building on spaces that already have a Forest or another Building.
Once you’ve made your choice and placed your Building, remember that it’s a permanent decision – you won’t be able to move or remove it from your Harbor board later on.
Let me provide you with an example to illustrate: Let’s say you want to build the Fish Stand, which requires 1 wood. In this scenario, you have the freedom to choose any of the available spaces to place it.
Now, let’s move on to the next action: issuing a Share. When you choose to take this action, you’ll need to select one Unissued Share next to your “Personal Supply” board and turn it to the “Share” side in your color. Place this newly issued Share on the designated spot on the Action board, specifically the one labeled “newly issued shares”. As a result, you’ll receive 2 gold from the general supply and add it to your personal supply.
To sum it up, keep these guidelines in mind when making your decisions. Take into account the availability of Buildings and open spaces on your Harbor board. Also, remember that once you place a Building, you can’t move or remove it. If you’ve understood these concepts, you’re well on your way to success!
Hey there! Want to learn about how the game works? Let’s dive in!
When it’s just the two of us playing, only one of us can use this action space during each Work Phase. But if we have three, four, or five players, then up to two workers can make use of it.
Now, when it comes to taking this action, you can only do it three times throughout the entire game. You start with three unissued shares, and once you issue a share, it stays that way until the game ends.
Here’s the cool part: there’s no limit to the number of shares on the Action board! Pretty neat, right? It doesn’t matter what color they are.
Just a heads up, when it’s time for the Fishing Phase, make sure to put some fish on your shares on the Action board.
When you take this action, you get all Shares (no matter what color they are) from the “newly issued shares” space on the Action board. This space is right above the “Buy All Shares” action space. Once you have all the Shares, place them next to your “Personal Supply” board.
To get the Shares, you have to pay 1 gold for each Share on the Action board. But in Rounds 4 and 5, the total cost is 1 gold less. And in Rounds 6 and 7, the total cost is 2 gold less instead of just 1 gold.
Note:
- In every Work Phase, only one Worker can occupy the “Buy All Shares” action space.
- You can only take this action if you can pay for all the Shares on the Action board. And you can’t buy just a few Shares – it’s all or nothing.
- The total cost can’t go below 0 gold. So, if you buy only one Share in Rounds 6 or 7, you won’t get 1 gold back.
Example: Until the third round, you can buy these two shares by spending 2 gold. In the fourth and fifth rounds, you only need 1 gold to buy them. Starting from the sixth round, you can get them for free when you take the “Buy All Shares” action.
I’ll continue to give an example, but I’ll use my own information and writing style.
Gardening 101: How to Get Started
One of the things I’m really interested in is gardening. There’s something magical about planting a tiny seed and watching it grow into a beautiful flower or a delicious vegetable. But when I first started gardening, I had no idea where to begin. I didn’t know what plants to choose or how to take care of them. It was overwhelming.
That’s why I’m here to help you. If you’re curious about gardening and want to get started, I’ve got some tips for you. You don’t need to be an expert or have a big backyard to try out gardening. With a little bit of knowledge and some enthusiasm, you can start your own garden and enjoy all the benefits that come with it.
First things first, you need to decide what kind of plants you want to grow. Are you interested in flowers or vegetables? Maybe both? Take some time to think about what you enjoy and what you’d like to see in your garden. Once you have an idea, it’s time to do some research.
Check your local climate and figure out what plants are suitable for your area. Some plants thrive in hot, sunny environments, while others prefer cooler temperatures. You don’t want to plant something that won’t survive in your climate. So make sure you choose plants that are well-suited to your region.
Next, think about the space you have available. Do you have a big backyard or just a small balcony? The size of your space will determine what kind of plants you can grow. If you have limited space, consider container gardening. You can grow plants in pots or hanging baskets and still have a beautiful garden.
Once you’ve decided on the types of plants and figured out your space, it’s time to get your hands dirty. Start by preparing your soil. Remove any weeds or rocks and loosen up the soil with a garden fork or a tiller. You want your soil to be nice and loose so that the plant roots can easily grow and absorb nutrients.
Now it’s time to plant your seeds or seedlings. Make sure you follow the instructions on the seed packet or plant tag. Different plants have different requirements, so it’s important to give them what they need. Some plants need lots of sunlight, while others prefer shade. Water your plants regularly and keep an eye on them for any signs of pests or diseases.
As your plants grow, they’ll need some care and attention. Water them regularly, but be careful not to overwater. Give them a little bit of fertilizer every now and then to help them grow strong and healthy. And don’t forget to trim or prune your plants as needed. This will help them grow properly and keep them looking tidy.
Gardening can be a rewarding and fulfilling hobby. Not only will you get to enjoy beautiful flowers or delicious vegetables, but you’ll also get to spend time outdoors and connect with nature. So go ahead, give it a try. Start your own garden and see where it takes you. Happy gardening!
Deforest
When I choose to deforest, I am essentially removing one of the forests from my Harbor board. Once I do this, I am able to collect 5 pieces of wood from the general supply, which I then add to my personal supply.
Notes:
- When playing a 2-player game, you can only have one Worker in this action space during every Work Phase. But in 3-, 4-, and 5-player games, up to two Workers can be in this space.
- If you don’t have any Forests on your Harbor board, you can’t take this action.
- When you remove a Forest from a double space, it doesn’t matter how many Forests are there. Removing one Forest will free up two Building spaces.
- You can only remove a Forest if you take the “Deforest” action or use an Elder or Building that allows you to do so.
- Remember the 12 wood limit on your “Personal Supply” board. If you already have more than 7 wood, you will receive less than 5 wood from this action.
I called to mind the importance of carefully choosing the right action to take in this game. In doing so, one must fully understand the consequences that may arise from each decision. But here’s the kicker – it’s not always easy to predict what those consequences will be. It’s like trying to solve a puzzle without knowing all the pieces, you know?
Now, let me tell you about a particular action you can take. It’s called “Removing a Forest”. This action allows you to remove a Forest tile from the game board. Sounds simple enough, right? Well, here’s the twist. You may take this action even if you already have 12 wood in your personal supply. In that case, you won’t receive any additional wood. It’s like cutting down a tree without reaping the benefits, quite the predicament if you ask me.
So, if you’re pondering your next move, keep this in mind. Consider the possible outcomes and weigh them against your current circumstances. Each action has its own consequences, and it’s up to you to navigate this double-edged sword of decision-making. Remember, the choices you make will shape the course of the game, so choose wisely!
Let’s Lighten the Load
Hey there! When you choose to thin out, you’ll be doing something pretty neat. You’ll take some wood from the big pile of wood called the general supply, and the amount you take will depend on how many Forests you have on your Harbor board. Cool, right? Then, you’ll put that wood in your own personal supply. It’s like you’re giving your Harbor board a haircut!
Quick Tips:
- In each work phase, only one worker can occupy this action space.
- To take this action, you must have forests on your Harbor board.
- All forests count towards this action, even if they are covered by other forests.
- You don’t need to remove any forests, just count them.
- Keep in mind the 12 wood limit on your “Personal Supply” board. If necessary, you may receive less than 12 wood. If you already have 12 wood in your personal supply, you cannot take this action.
For example: When the game begins, there are four forests on your Harbor boards (two of which are stacked). Therefore, the “Reforest” action would yield 4 wood.
Reforest
Hey there! So, here’s what you gotta do: grab a couple of Forests and put them on that empty double space over on your Harbor board.
A few things to keep in mind:
- In each work phase, only one worker can occupy this space.
- If you don’t have a free double space on your Harbor board, you can’t take this action. Also, you can’t place a Forest on two vertically adjacent Building spaces due to its shape.
- You can’t move or remove your Forests without restrictions.
Build a Ship
When you choose to build a ship, select one sloop, cutter, or schooner from the Ships and Elders supply board. Pay the specified Building cost (wood, fish, gold) shown at the top of the Ship tile, and position the Ship on available spaces of your Fishing track, as far left as possible.
Ships contribute to your Victory Points and increase your haul size during the Fishing Phase.
Additional Information:
- In games with 2 players, only one Worker can occupy this action space during each Work Phase. In games with 3, 4, and 5 players, up to two Workers can be placed here.
- You cannot take this action if you don’t have enough resources to buy a Ship or if you can’t place it on your Fishing track. You’re not allowed to place Ships beyond the last space of the track, even if it’s only partially. Once you have 12 hauls, you can no longer add any more Ships.
- Remember that you can construct boats for 8 wood and 8 fish, or for 4 gold if you prefer.
- Sloops will occupy two spaces, cutters will occupy three spaces, and schooners will occupy four spaces on the Fishing track. Keep in mind that the first space of the track counts as two spaces.
Example: Let’s say you want to make a schooner, which costs 4 gold. You’ll place it to the right of the catboat that’s already on the board. By doing this, your original haul size of 3 fish will double to 6 fish.
Bring an Elder to Your Council
When you choose to bring an Elder to your council, simply select one from the available Elders and place them in an empty seat. Remember, you can only take an Elder from the top of a stack.
In games with 5 players, there’s an additional rule: If you reveal a face-down Elder when taking one, flip it face up right away.
Once you’ve added an Elder to your council, you have the option to immediately use the action indicated on their card, without assigning another worker (refer to the “Using an Elder” section for more details).
Important Reminders:
- In games with 2 players, only one Worker can occupy this action space during each Work Phase. But in games with 3, 4, or 5 players, up to two Workers can occupy it.
- You can’t take this action if there are no Elders left on the supply board or if you already have 5 Elders in your Elder Council. Remember, no player can have more than 5 Elders.
- You can take an Elder and choose not to use their action.
- You cannot remove Elders from your Elder Council.
For example: You have to wait until the Builder is no longer available before you can take the Contractor.
How to Use an Elder
Instead of putting one of my workers on a particular space on the Action board, I have another option. I can place one of my workers on an Elder in my Elder Council and use his action. It’s like having a helper who can do things for me.
When I choose to take an Elder from the “Take an Elder” space, I can use his action right away, without needing to place a worker. It’s like getting a bonus!
But there’s a catch. If I want to use an Elder’s action, I need to take a fish from the Banquet Table and put it on the Elder. I should choose the biggest fish-containing plate, with the highest number, and take a fish from there. Each Elder has three spaces at the top where I can put the fish (check the illustration to see what it looks like). It’s just like when I go fishing.
Here’s the tricky part. Whenever there are exactly three fish on an Elder, I have to remove them right away. That’s the rule. It’s like when someone tells me to stop eating after I’ve had three cookies.
Let me break it down for you. Here’s what you need to do:
1. Put one fish in your stash.
2. Put the other two fish back in the main supply. But don’t forget to leave the Elder card where it is.
It’s kind of simple, right? You just have to take care of the fish and keep the game going. Enjoy!
As soon as you put down the fish, it’s time to take action with the Elder. The Elder’s abilities will become clear once you use them.
Important things to remember:
- You can only take action with an Elder if there are still fish remaining on the Banquet Table. You can’t use fish from your own supply, or even from your Reserve. The only way to get fish on the Banquet Table is by using the “Serve Fish” action.
- You can only use your own Elders. You can’t use an opponent’s Elders from their Elder Council, and you can’t use Elders that are still on the supply board, not even if you pay for them.
- During each Work Phase, you can place a Worker on each Elder, but no more than one per Elder.
- If you take a new Elder and use them right away, you can later place a Worker on that Elder during the same Round to use their abilities a second time.
Copying an Action
When you play a game with 4 or 5 players, or when you’re playing alone, there’s a special tile called the Imitation tile that can be used to copy blocked action spaces.
In a 4-player game, the Imitation tile has one “Copy an Action” space. This space can only be used by one worker during each Work Phase. When you choose this action, you can use any blocked action space on the Action board.
In a 5-player game, the Imitation tile has three “Copy an Action” spaces. These spaces match the three columns of action spaces on the Action board. When you choose one of these actions, you can use any blocked action space in the corresponding column on the Action board. Just like in the 4-player game, only one worker can be placed on each space during the Work Phase.
Notes:
- I can only copy an action space that is already being used.
- It doesn’t matter whose Workers are occupying the action space I want to copy. I can copy an action space that has my own Workers or someone else’s Workers.
- I cannot copy the actions that are on the Elders.
Example: Let’s say I am playing as the red player and I want to build another Ship. Unfortunately, the “Build a Ship” action space is already taken. But fortunately, the Imitation tile is still available, so I can place one of my Workers there to copy the actions of the “Build a Ship” action space.
