Rumor Mythos cards are quite interesting because they like to put these special tokens called Rumor tokens in different spots on the game board. The cool thing is, when you’re an investigator and you land on a space that has one of these tokens, you can actually interact with it during the Encounter Phase. Instead of doing the usual encounter card thing, you get to deal with the effect on the Mythos card that matches the Rumor token.
Once you solve the Mythos card, you can throw it away. And guess what? You get to throw away the Rumor token too! It’s like a two-for-one deal.
If you come across a Mythos card or Mystery that says you need to put a token on a random space, here’s how you figure out which space it is. Grab a Clue token from the Clue pool and look at its back. The space shown on the back of the token is the lucky winner. Once you know, you can discard the Clue token. Easy peasy!
Oh, and by the way, there are also Mysteries to solve. They’re like puzzles in the game. Just thought you should know.
To win the game, we must solve three Mysteries. And let me tell you, each Ancient One has their own deck of Mystery cards, and these cards have some tricky tasks for us investigators to figure out.
Here’s how it goes down: when we’re setting up the game, we draw one Mystery card and put it faceup next to the Ancient One sheet. This card tells us how we can solve that particular Mystery. And here’s the thing, as soon as we solve one Mystery, we don’t get a break. No sir. We immediately draw a new Mystery card from the deck and place it on top of the old one, faceup.
I win the game as soon as I solve three Mysteries. But things get a bit trickier if the Ancient One awakens. In that case, I have to solve the Final Mystery on top of the three Mystery cards.
The Ancient One Awakens
Once the Doom token reaches the “0” space on the Doom track, the Ancient One wakes up. I flip the Ancient One sheet and immediately deal with the effects labeled “Awakens” in the upper left corner.
This sheet stays turned over for the rest of the game, and its effects take the place of the ones on the front (including Cultist information). The back of the Ancient One sheet also explains how I can lose the game.
Eliminated Players
Once the Ancient One wakes up, if an investigator is defeated or eaten, the player controlling them is out of the game. That player can’t pick another investigator to play as and can’t keep playing.
If all the players are eliminated, the investigators lose the game.
Final Mystery
After the Ancient One wakes up, it gets really hard for the investigators to win the game. Each Ancient One sheet tells you about a Final Mystery that the investigators have to solve to win, usually by going straight against the Ancient One.
