Discover the Excitement of Zooloretto Junior
Welcome to the thrilling world of Zooloretto Junior! Join me as we dive into the mesmerizing game that will transport you to an incredible zoo full of amazing animals. Get ready for an unforgettable adventure!
In Zooloretto Junior, your goal is to collect as many animals as possible to create the most fantastic zoo ever. But be careful, my friend, because managing a zoo is not as easy as it sounds. You’ll need good strategy, quick thinking, and a bit of luck to succeed!
As the game begins, you’ll be given your very own animal crate. This crate is your ticket to acquiring new animals. Each turn, you have the opportunity to add animals to your crate, but here’s the catch: you can only collect animals of the same type. So keep an eye out for those matching animals!
But wait, there’s more! Building a zoo is not just about animals. You need to create the perfect environment for your animals to thrive. That means constructing enclosures that suit their needs. Whether it’s a lush forest for the monkeys or a cool swimming pool for the dolphins, it’s up to you to provide the best home possible.
Beware, my friend, as space is limited. Your zoo can only hold a certain number of enclosures, so you’ll need to make wise choices about which ones to build. And remember, each animal requires a specific type of enclosure, so plan carefully!
Now, let’s talk about the animals themselves. Zooloretto Junior is bursting with a wide variety of creatures, from adorable penguins to majestic lions. Each animal has its own unique value, so the more valuable animals you collect, the higher your score will be at the end of the game. So keep your eyes peeled for those rare and valuable animals!
I know what you’re thinking, my friend. How do I win this game? Well, that’s where the points come in. Throughout the game, you’ll earn points for collecting animals and building enclosures. At the end of the game, the player with the most points is declared the winner. So, aim high and do everything you can to outscore your opponents!
Now that you know the basics, it’s time for you to embark on your zoo adventure. Get ready to be amazed by the incredible animals, strategic decisions, and endless fun that await you. Zooloretto Junior is the perfect game for animal lovers and strategists alike. So gather your friends and family, and let the wild journey begin!

- Instructions
Welcome to the Zoo!
As the director of your very own zoo, your mission is to create the best zoo imaginable. In your zoo, you’ll have enclosures for animals and beautiful landscapes. Your goal is to fill these enclosures for points. But be careful! If you have too many extra animals, they’ll have to go in the barn and you’ll lose points.
Setting Up the Game
Let’s get started. Before we begin, let’s adjust the setup for the number of players.
- If there are 3 players, remove tiles for two kinds of animals from the game.
- If there are 4 players, remove tiles for one kind of animal from the game.
- If there are 5 players, use all the tiles.
Now that we’re all set up, let’s dive in and create our amazing zoos!
When you look at the tiles, you’ll notice that the offspring ones have a circle on the back. But that’s not all – the front of these tiles also have circles, right around the pictures of the animals. Now, let’s put those offspring tiles on the table, with the circles facing up, off to the side of where we’ll be playing.
Now, it’s time to shuffle all the tiles that have a square on the back. That means all the animal and landscape tiles. Mix them up really well and create piles with the tiles facing down. We won’t be able to see the front of these tiles during the game.
Next, we need to draw 15 tiles from these piles, without looking at the front. Place these tiles next to the offspring tiles, also face-down. This pile is for the end of the game. To mark it, let’s put the red wooden disc on top.

When I play this game, I start by putting together the three sections of my zoo board and placing it in front of me. I turn the delivery trucks so that I can see their green backgrounds and place them in the middle of the table, next to each other, to match the number of players. Any unused zoo boards and delivery trucks go back in the box, and then we choose a starting player.
Let’s Play!
This game is played in multiple rounds.
On your turn, you have two options:
- Add a tile to a delivery truck
- Take a delivery truck and end your turn for this round
After you finish your turn, play passes to the next player clockwise. Once each player has taken a delivery truck, the current round ends and a new round begins.
Option A: Add a tile to a delivery truck
Alright, here’s what you gotta do:
Grab a tile from the stack and put it face up in one of the empty spots on any of your delivery trucks.
That’s it! Your turn is over.
Each delivery truck can only hold up to 3 tiles. Once all the trucks have 3 tiles, you can’t do this action anymore. In that case, you’ll have to go with plan B.
Remember: You can only take a tile from the stack with the red wooden disc if the other stacks are all gone!
Plan B: Take a delivery truck and end your turn for this round
Pick a delivery truck of your choice and put it in front of you, along with any tiles that are already on it.
Just so you know: The truck you choose doesn’t have to be full, but it must have at least one tile on it!
Once you pick a delivery truck, you have to sit out for the rest of the round. You can’t play again until the next round! It’s pretty simple to see who’s no longer playing because they have a delivery truck in front of them.
When you take a delivery truck, you have to immediately add the tiles from that truck to your zoo. You can put the tiles in any empty spaces in your zoo, whether it’s in the enclosures or in the barn. Just make sure you follow the placement rules I’m about to explain.
The Enclosures

Hey there! Let me break it down for you.
In each enclosure, you can have a maximum of 6 tiles. But here’s the cool part – you can mix and match animal and landscape tiles in the same enclosure!
Now, when it comes to animals, you can only have one kind of animal in each enclosure. That means you can have the same type of animal in different enclosures, if you’d like.
Oh, and just a friendly reminder: the landscape tiles in an enclosure can be the same or different. It’s totally up to you!
Now, if you’re not able or don’t want to add a tile to one of your enclosures, no worries! You can put it in your barn instead.

The Barn
Hey there! I want to talk to you about something super important – your barn. It’s like a special place where you keep all kinds of animal and landscape tiles. You can have different types of tiles at the same time, so it’s really cool and diverse.
Just a quick note: You can totally put a tile in your barn, even if you still have some space left in a matching enclosure. It’s totally up to you!
End of the Round
Okay, so once every player has taken a delivery truck, that means the round is over. Easy, right?
But wait, there’s more! Here’s an interesting twist: if all the players but one are done for the round, that last player gets to keep going. They can keep drawing tiles from a pile and adding them to their delivery truck until they finally take the last one, which ends the round. Talk about taking advantage of an opportunity!
When the round is over, you need to return the empty delivery trucks to the middle of the playing area. Then, the next round starts with the last player who took a delivery truck in the previous round. It’s a smooth transition!
Two Special Cases
Offspring

Did you know that each type of animal has two females and two males that are ready to mate? You can recognize them by the small symbols on the tiles. So, if you take a fertile male or female and match them up with their corresponding partner in the same area, something magical happens – they produce an offspring! Isn’t that amazing? When this happens, you can take a special tile representing the baby animal and add it to the group.
Here’s the cool part: the offspring tile actually counts as another animal tile of the same kind. That means it adds to the total number of animals in the group. But, if there are already six animal tiles in the same area, there is no more room for the baby. Don’t worry though, you can put the little one in the barn instead. It will be safe and sound there.
Important Note: You don’t need to keep mating pairs next to each other in the enclosure; they can be distributed anywhere within it.
When a fertile male and female mate, they can only produce one offspring. This means that if you add another fertile animal to an enclosure that already contains a mating pair, no new baby animal will be born.
However, if you want another offspring, you must add a suitable partner for the third animal in the enclosure.
Another important thing to note: Mating pairs can only produce offspring within enclosures. They can’t have babies in the barn or on a delivery truck.
Enclosure with Six Tiles
If it’s your turn and you fill up the last empty space in any of your enclosures, you have the option to choose one of the following bonus actions at the end of your turn:
- Take Over a Tile
- Discard a Tile
Note: Listen up! Here’s the deal, folks. What I’m about to tell you is crucial, so pay attention. Don’t worry, though, I’ll break it down for you in simple terms. Keep in mind, we gotta preserve all this fancy HTML stuff, so it’s gonna stay just the way it is, alright? Great, let’s dive in.
Note: Now, here’s the thing, right? It doesn’t matter what you fill that last empty space with, as long as you fill it. It could be an animal, a landscape, or even some little baby critter. It’s all good.
But wait, there’s more! Remember to follow the placement rules when you do any bonus actions, okay? Gotta play it by the book.
I. Take Over a Tile
Alright, here’s where things get interesting. You can swipe a tile from your opponent’s barn and plop it right into one of your enclosures. And get this – your opponent can’t do a thing to stop you! It’s a total power move, my friend.
Note: Just a heads up, though. If the tile you snatch fills up the last empty space in an enclosure, you don’t get a second bonus action, alright? Keep that in mind.
II. Discard a Tile
If you’re not feelin’ a particular tile in your barn, no worries. You can toss it out. Say goodbye, tile! It’s outta here and back in the box, where it belongs.
Animal Almanac
The Meerkat

Did you know that there are animals called meerkats that live together in underground dens? They can have anywhere from 3 to 25 meerkats in their group, and their den can be as big as 5 meters across! It’s amazing how they all fit in there!
Let’s Talk About Giraffes

Did you know that giraffes have a striking characteristic? They have an incredibly long neck that is made up of seven bones, just like us humans. However, their neck bones are way longer than ours. This unique feature allows them to reach fresh leaves on tree branches that are as high as 6 meters above the ground.
Now, let’s talk about another fascinating animal – the impala.
The Impala

Imagine a creature that can reach speeds of up to 90 km/h and effortlessly leap over distances of 10 meters high and 3 meters long. This animal is a force to be reckoned with, and it’s not easily taken down. It has an incredible knack for adapting to different environments, which is why you’ll find it thriving on the savannah.
Let’s Talk About Llamas

Did you know that even though they don’t have humps like other camels, these animals still belong to the camel family? It’s pretty fascinating how nature works! These creatures are incredibly strong and can carry heavy loads, up to 60 kg! But here’s something even more interesting – if they feel threatened or bothered, they have the unique ability to spit with incredible precision! Talk about self-defense!
Let’s Talk About Rhinoceros

Hey there! Did you know that I want to tell you about a remarkable creature called the ostrich? Yep, this cool cat stands up to 2 meters tall and can weigh a whopping 5 tons! That’s one big bird. But get this, despite its size, it can zip around at speeds of up to 45 km/h. Talk about fast and furious!
Now, here’s the kicker: the ostrich doesn’t have the greatest eyesight. But don’t fret, because it more than makes up for it with its sharp hearing and an incredible sense of smell. It’s like they have superpowers or something! ♀️
The Ostrich

Did you know that when certain animals feel threatened, they have a fascinating way of protecting themselves? They lie down flat and press their heads to the ground, making themselves almost invisible. It’s like they disappear! This behavior is so interesting that it has given rise to a popular myth about ostriches. People say that ostriches stick their heads in the sand when they’re scared, but in reality, they’re just trying to blend in with their surroundings.
Another incredible fact about these animals is that they can survive for a really long time without water. They can go days, even weeks, without drinking! That’s pretty impressive, don’t you think?
Let’s Talk About Wolves
Game Over
Now, let’s switch gears and talk about a different kind of game. Have you ever played a board game called “End of the Game”? It’s really exciting! Here’s how it works:
You start by using up all the regular game pieces. But don’t worry, the fun doesn’t stop there! Once the regular pieces are gone, you continue playing by drawing and revealing tiles from a special pile with a red wooden disc.
But here’s the twist: as soon as you reveal the first tile from this special pile, the game is almost over. The current round will be the last round of the game. But don’t panic! You still get to finish this round just like any other round. The game officially ends when each player has taken their turn with a delivery truck. Exciting, isn’t it?
Scoring Time!
Now, let’s talk about one last thing: scoring. Every player gets to count their plus and minus points for their zoo. Then, they add them all up to find their total score. It’s a great way to see who did the best in the game!
When it comes to scoring points in the zoo game, you earn points based on the number of animal tiles in each enclosure. The table below shows how many points you’ll get for different numbers of animal tiles:
| Points | 1 | 2 | 3 | 4 | 8 | 12 |
Remember: The offspring tiles count just like normal animal tiles, so don’t forget to include them!
You can also find this table on the zoo boards to help you keep track of your points.
But keep in mind, landscape tiles are not considered animal tiles and won’t count towards your enclosure scores!
- For each type of landscape tile in your enclosures, you’ll score 2 points. It doesn’t matter which enclosure the tiles are in.
- For each kind of animal tile in your barn, you’ll lose 2 points.
- And for each type of landscape tile in your barn, you’ll lose 2 points too.
The person who has gathered the most points is declared the winner of the game. However, if there happens to be a tie, then the player who has the most landscape tiles in their enclosures will be the ultimate champion. It doesn’t matter what types of landscape tiles they are. But even if there is still a tie after that, the tied players will have to share the victory and be declared co-winners.
When playing the game with only two people, certain modifications need to be made to the rules. These modifications include removing three kinds of animals and their offspring tiles from the game. Additionally, the delivery trucks should be turned so that their blue backgrounds are visible. Only one 1-box delivery truck, one 2-box delivery truck, and one 3-box delivery truck should be used. These three trucks should be placed next to each other in the center of the table.
The round ends once both players have chosen a delivery truck. Any tiles remaining on the unclaimed truck should be removed from the game.
If you’re looking for some strategy hints, here they are:
Every now and then, it’s worth taking a chance. For example, instead of grabbing a delivery truck that only you find appealing, why not uncover another tile and hope for a more profitable one?
It’s best to keep your barn filled with as few different types of animals as possible.
If you end up with animal tiles that don’t fit in your enclosures, try to select animals that you already have in your barn.
Consider taking animals that your opponents might be interested in. They might snatch the tile in a bonus action and seize the opportunity.
