Let’s Talk Unusual Suspects Game Rules!
Hey there! Today, I want to discuss an exciting game called Unusual Suspects. Get ready to dive into a world of mystery, deduction, and teamwork! In this game, you and your friends become detectives, working together to solve a mysterious crime.
The Basics
Here’s how it works: one player takes on the role of the Witness, while the rest of the players are Detectives. The Witness knows the identity of the suspect, but they can’t directly say who it is. Instead, they must answer a series of questions asked by the Detectives.
The twist is that the Detectives can only ask questions about a lineup of unusual individuals. These individuals have unique characteristics, such as tattoos, accessories, or specific clothing items. Based on the Witness’s answers, the Detectives must deduct who the suspect is.
Now, let’s talk about some key rules to keep in mind:
Rule 1: Ask Yes or No Questions
When it’s your turn to be a Detective, you can ask the Witness questions to help narrow down the suspect. But remember, you can only ask questions that can be answered with a simple “yes” or “no.” This limitation forces you to think strategically and make the most of every question.
Rule 2: Use Clues Wisely
The Witness holds all the keys to unraveling the mystery, but they can only provide limited information. So, as a Detective, make sure to carefully analyze the few clues you receive. Pay attention to details and think critically about how they relate to the suspect. It’s like solving a puzzle!
Rule 3: Collaborate and Communicate
Unusual Suspects is all about teamwork. As Detectives, you must work together and share information to crack the case. Discuss your theories, ask for opinions, and consider different perspectives. Remember, two heads are better than one!
Rule 4: Trust Your Gut
Intuition plays a crucial role in this game. Sometimes, the answer is hidden between the lines, and your gut feeling may guide you in the right direction. Trust your instincts and take calculated risks. After all, solving a mystery requires a bit of daring!
Conclusion
In a nutshell, Unusual Suspects is an engrossing game that challenges your deduction skills and puts your teamwork to the test. So grab a group of friends, put on your detective hats, and get ready to unravel the mysteries that await! Are you up for the challenge? I guarantee you’ll have a blast!

Welcome to Unusual Suspects, a game where we all win or lose together! In this cooperative party game, one person becomes the Witness while everyone else takes on the role of Detectives. The Witness holds the key to the identity of the thief, and their job is to help the Detectives narrow down the list of Suspects by answering their questions. Together, we will work towards identifying the Guilty Party!
But here’s the catch – the Detectives need to be smart about their questions! The Witness can’t provide any information about the physical appearance of the Guilty Party. This means that the answers won’t be obvious. Instead, the Witness will have to use their imagination and make judgments based solely on the Suspects’ nature, habits, and interests.

Getting Ready
So, you want to start your very own blog? That’s great news! Let me tell you how to set it all up.
First things first, you’ll need to choose a blogging platform. There are several options out there, but the most popular one is WordPress. It’s user-friendly, flexible, and has a wide range of themes and plugins to choose from. Another option is Blogger, which is owned by Google and is known for its simplicity. Whichever platform you choose, make sure it fits your needs and preferences.
Once you’ve chosen your platform, it’s time to select a domain name. This is your blog’s web address, so choose something catchy and memorable. Make sure it reflects the content of your blog and is easy to type. You can check the availability of your preferred domain name on various websites, and once you find one that’s available, you can register it.
Next, you’ll need to find a hosting provider. A hosting provider is where your blog’s files and data will be stored. There are many hosting providers out there, but some popular ones include Bluehost, SiteGround, and HostGator. Consider factors like pricing, customer support, and server reliability when choosing a hosting provider.
After you’ve set up your hosting account, you’ll need to install your blogging platform. Most hosting providers offer a one-click installation option for platforms like WordPress, which makes the process quick and easy. Once the installation is complete, you can log in to your blogging platform and start customizing your blog.
Now, it’s time to choose a theme for your blog. This is what will determine the overall look and layout of your blog. You can choose from thousands of free and premium themes, so take your time and find one that suits your style. Don’t be afraid to experiment and try different themes until you find the perfect one.
Once you’ve selected your theme, it’s time to start customizing your blog. You can customize things like colors, fonts, and layouts to make your blog unique. Most blogging platforms have user-friendly customization tools, so you don’t need to be a professional web designer to create a beautiful blog.
Finally, it’s time to start creating content for your blog. Think about what you want to write about and who your target audience is. This will help you determine the tone and style of your blog. Remember to write in a conversational tone and use simple language that is easy for your readers to understand. And most importantly, be yourself and write about things you’re passionate about.
With these steps, you’ll be well on your way to starting your very own blog. Don’t be afraid to experiment, learn from your experiences, and most importantly, have fun with it. Happy blogging!
Here’s what you need to do to play the game:
1. Start by shuffling the Question cards, then place them face down on the table to form the Questioning Deck.
2. Next, shuffle the Guilty Party cards and place them face down on the table to create the Guilty Party Deck.
3. Now it’s time to shuffle the Suspect cards. Take the top 12 cards and turn them over, placing them face up on the table in a 3 by 4 grid. This grid is called the Suspect Pool. Put the remaining Suspect cards back in the box as you won’t need them for this game.
4. Now you need to choose a player to be the Witness. The Witness has some special responsibilities:
- A. Place the Yes card and No card in front of you.
- B. Take the Investigation Pad and write down the names of all the players.
- C. Lastly, draw one Guilty Party card and secretly look at it. This card will show you the location of the Guilty Party in the Suspect Pool. It’s very important that you keep this card a secret from the other players.
So, we’ve got five players who will be playing the role of Detectives. And now, it’s time for the investigation to start! I’m ready to dive in and uncover all the clues and secrets. Let’s do this!
How to Play the Game
Playing the game is simple and exciting, with each round consisting of three phases: Questioning, Trial, and Verdict.
Phase 1: Questioning
To start the game, I, as one of the detectives, will flip over the top Question card from the Questioning Deck and read it aloud.
Then, you, as the Witness, will answer the question with either a “Yes” or a “No” by placing the Question card face up below the corresponding Yes or No card.
Remember: You can only answer with “Yes” or “No” – no other information or gestures are allowed.
We, the Detectives, can only discuss the case after you have given your answer.
Phase 2: the Investigation
Now, let’s dive into the heart of the matter – the detectives discussing the case and trying to solve the puzzle. In this phase, we work together to identify the suspects based on the witness’s answer.
Our goal is to narrow down the list of suspects by eliminating those who don’t match the witness’s description. By doing so, we declare these suspects innocent.
But remember, we have to eliminate at least one suspect, even though we can eliminate more if we believe they are innocent. To make a decision, we all need to agree – or at least the majority of us do.
If we eliminate an innocent suspect, we continue our investigation. No big deal. But if we eliminate the guilty party, fireworks happen! The witness will immediately reveal the guilty party card, and the game ends (see The End of the Game)!
When we feel like we’ve gathered enough evidence and are ready to move forward, we can end this phase.
Phase 3: the Verdict
Alright, detectives, let’s tally up the number of suspect cards we’ve eliminated so far in this round. Write down that number on the corresponding line of the investigation pad. But remember, we’re only counting cards eliminated in the current round.
Now, here’s a little math for you. Multiply the round number by the number of cards you’ve eliminated, and write down the result in the next box. This will show us how much time we’ve spent on this investigation.
Quick tip: The more questions you ask, the more time it takes to eliminate each suspect. Keep that in mind!
Once the verdict phase is done, it’s time to start the next round. This time, the detectives will reveal another question card.
For example: In the first round, we turned over the question card that said, “Do they have a record player?” The witness answered with a “No,” and we placed that card below the “No” card.
So, let me tell you about this interesting detective game. I’m a detective, and I’m working with my team to solve a mysterious case. We decided to start by eliminating some suspects. Our hunch is that those who own a record player might be involved in the crime. So, we choose three suspects and turn their cards face down.
After investigating further, we realized that none of these suspects is actually the guilty party. We were wrong! But hey, that’s all part of the fun, right? We keep track of our progress by jotting down our points on the investigation pad. It helps us see how well we’re doing and keeps things organized.
Oh, and here’s an interesting twist. We also keep track of time. After eliminating those three suspects, we see that we’ve used up three minutes of our precious time. It’s a race against the clock to catch the real culprit!
Game Over
If we, the Detectives, manage to find the person responsible, we’ve lost the game! Your unsuccessful endeavor can be documented on the Investigation Pad.
However, if we, the Detectives, successfully identify all 11 Innocent Suspects, leaving only the Guilty Party in the Suspect Pool, then we’ve caught the thief and secured a victory!
Calculate the sum of the numbers in the final column of the Investigation Pad. This total represents the time invested in the investigation. The shorter the time, the more exceptional our detective skills!
For a keepsake of our most accomplished investigations, we can store the used sheets from the Investigation Pad in the box.

Competitive Variant
If you’re up for a little competition, give this version a try:
We’ll split into two teams. Each team will take turns conducting investigations to figure out who the guilty party is, trying to do it as quickly as possible.
The game ends when one team reaches the designated number of points to win. For a short game, that’s 10 points. Medium game, it’s 15 points. And for a long game, you’ll need 20 points.
At the start of each investigation, both teams will select their witnesses. The witnesses will secretly choose and look at one guilty card. Keep in mind, the guilty party is the same for both teams.
We’ll begin with one team, and they will go through the questioning and trial phases as usual. The twist is that instead of putting the eliminated suspect cards face down, they will be taken off the table and kept by that team. Each card they collect is worth one victory point.
Once one team has completed the Trial phase, it’s time for the other team to take their turn. The teams keep alternating until the Investigation is over, either because one team manages to expose the Guilty Party, or they correctly identify who it is!

The Investigation Comes to an End
When we manage to catch the Guilty Party, hooray! We solve the case and wrap up the Investigation. But what happens next?
If we’re the ones who find the Guilty Party, well done to us! We earn an extra Victory Point. We get to draw another Suspect card from the deck and add it to our collection – a great reward for our hard work!
However, if it’s the other team that eliminates the Guilty Party, we don’t score any points. We have to say goodbye to the cards we collected during the Investigation. But don’t worry, we still have a chance to get something out of it. The other team scores a sweet bonus – 3 Victory Points! They get to draw three more Suspect cards and add them to their collection. It’s a great way for them to boost their chances of winning!
Now, it’s time to check if either team has enough Victory Points to win the game. If one team does, then that’s it – the game is over, and they’re the winners! But if both teams have scored at least the required number of points, we have to dig a little deeper.
We look at the points each team has earned throughout the game. The team with the most points takes the victory! But what if we find ourselves in a tie? Well, then we’ll just have to jump right back into another thrilling Investigation to break the deadlock.
