Tiny Towns Game Rules
Welcome to the world of Tiny Towns! I’m excited to dive into the game rules and show you the way to become a master builder. So, let’s get started!
In Tiny Towns, you have the unique opportunity to create your very own bustling town from scratch. It’s up to you to strategically place buildings on a grid and transform an empty landscape into a thriving community. But be careful, because resources are limited, and every decision you make counts.
The game begins with an empty 4×4 grid in front of you. You will take turns as the master builder, and it’s your responsibility to call out the resources players must place on their grids every turn. As the master builder, your role is crucial in determining the fate of your town.
To start, each player will choose a different building to construct. These buildings come in various shapes, such as houses, farms, taverns, and more. Each building requires a specific combination of resources to be placed on the grid. Think carefully and make sure you have enough space available before choosing a building.
The resources in Tiny Towns come in different forms as well. There are four types of resources: wood, wheat, brick, and glass. You will assign each resource type to a different type of building. For example, houses require wood, while wheat is needed for farms. This creates a careful balance and makes every decision crucial.
As the master builder, it’s up to you to think strategically and anticipate the resources players will need. Keep in mind that not everything will fit perfectly on the grid, so planning ahead is essential. You must always consider which resources will benefit you and which ones might impede your opponents.
Each time a player constructs a building and places the required resources on their grid, the town begins to grow. Buildings can interact with each other in unique ways, creating opportunities for even greater growth. It’s a puzzle that will test your skills and challenge your strategic thinking.
The game continues until no one can make any more moves on their grid. At this point, all players calculate their final scores based on the buildings they have constructed and the resources they have used. The player with the highest score is the winner and earns the title of the greatest master builder in Tiny Towns.
So, are you ready to embark on this exciting journey and create your own Tiny Town? Remember, every decision counts, and the fate of your town lies in your hands. Put on your thinking cap, unleash your creativity, and let the building begin!
Imagine being the mayor of a tiny town nestled deep within the forest. It’s a secret civilization created by the smaller creatures of the woods to hide from predators. Our town is small, and resources are hard to come by, but we make the most of what we have.
As mayor, my job is to cleverly plan and build a thriving town while being mindful of our limited resources. Wasting materials is not an option – we must use them wisely to create a prosperous community.

What’s the Goal?
When you play this game, the goal is to become the most successful builder in the kingdom. You’ll do this by constructing impressive buildings and monuments, as well as managing your resources wisely.
Building cards, monument cards, and resource cards are the key components of this game. Each one serves a unique purpose. Building cards, for example, allow you to add buildings to your city, while monument cards help you create grand structures that impress everyone. Resource cards, on the other hand, provide you with the necessary materials for construction.
In addition to these cards, you’ll also find wooden buildings, a Master Builder hammer, wooden monuments, and wooden Resource cubes. These physical elements help bring the game to life and make it more interactive.
To keep track of your progress, a scorepad is included. You can use it to record your points and compare your achievements with other players.
Lastly, there’s a rulebook that explains all the rules and guidelines of the game. It’s important to read and understand these instructions before you start playing. They will help you make the most of your gaming experience and avoid confusion.
With these components in hand, you have everything you need to embark on a thrilling journey as a builder. Good luck, and may your constructions be awe-inspiring!
My town is like a little world, represented by a 4×4 grid. It’s up to me to strategically place Resource cubes on the grid to create amazing buildings. Each building has its own special way of earning me Victory Points (VP).
But here’s the challenge – once no one can place any more resources or build any more buildings, the game is over. And if I have any empty squares on my grid, they’ll actually subtract a point from my final score! So I need to make sure every square is put to good use to maximize my chances of winning.
Getting Started
When playing this game, each player should start by receiving their own player board. This board will be their personal space for managing their resources and making strategic decisions.
As for the Resource cards, they should be left in the box, unless you decide to play with the Town Hall rules or try the Solo variant. In those cases, the Resource cards will come into play and add an extra layer of challenge and decision-making.
Okay, here’s the deal. We’re about to embark on a game of building and strategy, and I’ll walk you through it step by step. So let’s get started!
First things first. We need to place the Cottage card face-up in the center of the table. Make sure the symbol is facing up for everyone to see.
Now, we’ve got a bunch of Building cards left. What you need to do is sort them into separate piles based on the symbols on the back. Take your time and make sure each pile has cards with the same symbol.
Once you’ve got your piles sorted, it’s time to shuffle each pile of four cards. Mix ’em up real good. This is where the fun begins!
Next, draw one card from each pile and place them face-up next to the Cottage card. These cards should be visible to all players. Take a good look at these cards – they’ll come in handy later on.
Now, the remaining Building cards can go back into the box. We won’t be needing them for this game. If it’s your first time playing, it’s best to stick with the set of Building cards shown on the right.
Time to prepare the resources. You’ll find wooden cubes and buildings, but not monuments. Put them in a general supply where everyone can reach them. There are five different resources: wood, wheat, brick, glass, and stone.
Lastly, let’s determine who goes first. The starting player is the one who most recently built something in real life. Give that player the Master Builder hammer as a symbol of their special role.
That’s it! We’re ready to dive into the world of building and strategy. Have fun, and may the best builder win!
Let’s start the game by shuffling the Monument cards and giving each player 2 cards. Make sure to keep your cards secret. Take a look at the cards, then choose 1 to keep and 1 to discard face-down into the box.
When we start playing the game, each player gets one wooden monument. The monument should be kept next to the Monument card. If there are any extra monuments, we return them to the box because they won’t be used in this game. If it’s your first time playing, you might choose not to use the monuments.
Monuments: A Special Type of Building
A monument is a unique building that you, as the player holding the card, can create. Unlike other buildings, you can only construct your monument once. You have the freedom to build your monument in any round, just like any other regular building.
When you construct your monument, it’s important to read the Monument card out loud. Place it face-up in front of you and take immediate action based on any effects listed on the card.
If the card grants you a special ability, that ability takes effect right away. However, it only applies to you as the card’s holder. The scoring for Monument cards happens at the end of the game. Keep in mind that monuments are not part of the general supply.
Let’s Talk About Building Cards
- The Card Title
- The Building Type
- The Art
- The Resource Build Pattern
- The Building Ability/Scoring
How to Play
- I’m going to give you a resource type. It could be Wood, Wheat, Brick, Glass, or Stone.
- All of us have to choose one cube of that resource and put it in an empty spot in our town grid. We’ll do this at the same time.
Where to Place Resources
- Once you put a resource on the board, you can’t move it to another spot.
- The only way to remove a resource is by building a building.
- Each square can only have one resource or building.
- If a resource is taken off the board, it goes back to the supply.
When playing as the new Master Builder, I should always wait until all players are ready before naming the next resource. You can let me know you’re still thinking by holding up your resource cube until you’re ready to place it. That way, we can make sure everyone has enough time to strategize and plan their moves.
Once a resource has been placed, you have until the next one is named to construct any buildings. This gives you some flexibility and allows you to prioritize your construction projects based on the available resources.
Now, let’s talk about the Cavern rule. Building a Tiny Town can be challenging, especially if you’re new to the game or if you prefer a more flexible approach. That’s why we recommend playing with the Cavern rule. Here’s how it works: throughout the game, you have the option of placing up to 2 resources named by other players off to the side of your board.
These resources won’t score you any points or penalties at the end of the game. They’re more like bonus resources that you can use strategically. It’s up to you to decide when it’s most advantageous to make use of this special ability. So, keep an eye on what resources other players have and think about how they can benefit your town.
Lastly, let’s talk about feeding your cottages. In this game, you need to make sure your cottages are well-fed. Otherwise, they won’t generate any resources for you. So, always make sure you have enough resources to feed your cottages, and plan your moves accordingly. Remember, a well-fed cottage is a productive cottage!
By following these rules and strategies, you can enhance your gameplay and increase your chances of building a thriving town. Have fun exploring the world of Tiny Towns and may the best builder win!
Hey there! Just a little reminder for you – in the game Tiny Towns, Cottages need to be fed by certain buildings in order to be worth 3 points. You have the freedom to construct Cottages before or after the necessary buildings, but if they remain unfed by the end of the game, they won’t score any points.
Rules for Building Construction
Building layouts can be mirrored or flipped, and they can also be rotated, as long as the arrangement of resources remains the same. To construct a building:
- Take the correct resources in the correct shape from your board and return them to the supply.
When you play this game, there are certain steps you need to follow in order to construct buildings in your town. Here’s what you need to do:
First, take a wooden building piece from the general supply that matches the one you want to build.
Next, find a square on the game board where the resources have been removed and place your building in that square.
It’s important to note that each building requires all of its resources, so make sure you have all the necessary materials before you start constructing.
You don’t have to build a building as soon as you have all the resources. You can wait and construct it in a later round if you want to.
You can also construct multiple buildings at once if you have the resources for them.
Once a building is placed on a square, it cannot be moved to a different square.
Anyone can construct any of the buildings, except for other players’ monuments.
When you construct a building, the corresponding building card is not replaced. This means that once a player constructs a building, no one else can build the same one.
You cannot immediately construct a building after a resource is named. You must physically place the resource cube in your town before you can start constructing.
Now that you know the steps for constructing buildings in the game, you can work towards completing your town. Good luck!
Once all players have finished constructing their towns, the game enters its final phase. This is the moment when you can truly evaluate your success and tally up your score. It’s an exciting time, filled with anticipation and a touch of bittersweetness.
But first, let’s talk about what it means for your town to be completed. You see, when your town is brimming with resources and you’ve either run out of space or decided not to construct any more buildings, that’s when you know you’ve reached the end. Your town is finished, and your turn as the Master Builder is over.
It’s important to note that even if you still have room for resources in your town, you can no longer name any more as the Master Builder. Naming resources is something reserved for players who are still actively constructing their towns.
Now, if you find yourself as the last player standing, the sole survivor of the construction frenzy, you have the privilege of continuing to name resources as the one and only Master Builder. You can do this until you decide to join the ranks of the completed towns.
The Grand Finale
Once everyone’s towns are completed, it’s time to bring the game to a close. This is the moment where scores are tallied and winners are determined. But remember, victory isn’t solely based on the number of buildings in your town. There are multiple factors to consider and strategize around.
So take a deep breath and prepare to unveil the true value of your town. Consider the arrangement of your buildings, the synergy between different types of structures, and the overall aesthetics. Don’t forget to factor in bonuses and special abilities that may have influenced your gameplay. Every decision you made throughout the game matters and contributes to your final score.
As you calculate your score and assess your achievement, you may experience a mix of emotions. You might feel a sense of pride for your well-designed town, a tinge of regret for missed opportunities, or perhaps a surge of excitement to play again and improve your strategy.
In the end, the completed towns stand as a testament to your vision and skill. It’s the culmination of your efforts, a concrete manifestation of your strategic choices. So embrace this moment, revel in the beauty of your completed town, and savor the competitive spirit of the game. Your journey as a Master Builder may be over for now, but the world of possibilities remains wide open.
Once every player has completed their towns, the game comes to an end. Any resource cubes that are left over, except for the ones in Warehouses, get removed. For each empty square, you lose a point, so keep that in mind!
To calculate your final score, add up the points for each building in your town. Then, subtract any penalties you may have. The player with the highest score is the winner!
If there happens to be a tie, don’t worry! There are tiebreaker rules in place. The player who served as the Master Builder for the fewest turns breaks the tie. If there is still a tie, the player with the fewest empty squares comes out on top. If there’s still a tie after that, it’s all about the number of Cottages you have. And if there’s still no clear winner, then everyone ties and shares the victory!
