Tiny Epic Galaxies Game Rules
Hey there! Want to learn how to play Tiny Epic Galaxies? Well, you’ve come to the right place! I’ll walk you through the rules and get you ready to conquer the galaxy. Let’s jump right in!
First things first, everyone gets a unique galaxy mat. This is your home base! On your turn, you’ll be sending your ships out into the galaxy to explore and expand. You start with a couple of ships, but don’t worry, you can gain more as the game goes on.
Each turn has three phases: Roll Dice, Perform Actions, and Refresh. The dice are your tools for exploration. They determine what actions you can take. Different actions let you move ships, colonize planets, and activate abilities. It’s all about building up your civilization and earning victory points.
But be careful! As you expand your civilization, you’ll need to manage your energy and culture resources. These resources are essential for taking actions and scoring points. Balance is key!
The game keeps going until someone reaches 21 points. The player with the most points wins. It’s that simple! So get out there and start conquering the galaxy!
I hope you found these rules helpful. Now go enjoy an epic game of Tiny Epic Galaxies!

You and other space empires are in a race to settle on newly found planets. The goal is to earn victory points () by establishing colonies on these planets and growing your empire. The player with the highest number of victory points at the end of the game emerges as the winner!
Preparing for the Game
- First, pick a Galaxy Mat in your favorite color. The back of the Galaxy Mats, called the Rogue Galaxies, are just for playing alone.
- Next, take 4 Ships, 1 Culture Token, 1 Energy Token, and 1 Empire Token in your color.
- You’ll begin with 2 ships in the middle of your Galaxy Mat, standing up. These are your starting ships. Place the other 2 ships on the ship track, following the number spaces marked with a square.
- To keep track of your culture and energy levels, use your tokens on the resource track of your Galaxy Mat. At the start of the game, you’ll have 1 culture and 2 energy.
When playing this game, you can keep track of how advanced your empire is by using the Empire Token on your Galaxy Mat. Your empire level determines the number of dice and ships you can use during your turn. Plus, having a higher empire level earns you victory points. At the start of the game, place the empire token on the first space of the empire track, which is marked with a star icon.
To begin the game, shuffle the deck of Planet Cards. For each player, draw 2 more cards than the number of players. Place each card face up in a line in the center of the table. However, if you’re playing with 5 players, only draw 6 Planet Cards. These cards represent newly discovered planets that you can colonize. For example, if you’re playing with 3 players, place 5 planets in the center.
In the center of the table, also place the Control Mat and the 7 Action Dice. These components are essential for gameplay.
Okay, Class! Let’s learn how to play the awesome game of Galaxy Showdown! To start, we need to shuffle the Secret Mission Cards and give two to each player. Look at both cards, pick one that you like, and secretly slide it under your Galaxy Mat. Keep this card a secret until the game ends. Any leftover Secret Mission cards go back in the box face down. Ready? Let’s go!
The youngest player is up first. Each player takes turns rolling and using a certain number of dice based on their empire level. Keep playing until one player has 21 victory points or more. But don’t stop there! Keep going until it’s back to the starting player (who doesn’t get another turn).
Have fun playing Galaxy Showdown! May the best player win!
When you play the game, make sure to refer to the empire track on your Galaxy Mat. It’s important to take note of the number of dice specified for your empire’s level and roll them. Ready? Let’s go!
For instance, on your very first turn as the first player, you’ll receive 4 dice and 2 ships. Exciting, right?
Here’s the deal: the dice you roll will determine the actions you can take during your turn. The best part is that you can activate the dice in any order you want. And guess what? You don’t have to activate all of them if you don’t want to. How cool is that?
Activating Dice
When you want to use a die’s action, all you need to do is move the die to the Activation Bay on the Control Mat and perform the action.
Remember, you can only use a die once in a turn. Once you’ve used it, it must stay in the Activation Bay.
Rerolling Dice
Hey there! I want to talk to you about something super cool that you can do when it’s your turn. Are you ready? Here it goes: You can actually reroll some of your dice if you want to. Isn’t that awesome? Let me break it down for you.
So, during your turn, you might have some dice that haven’t been activated yet. That means they haven’t done their thing yet. But guess what? You have the power to change that! You can choose to reroll any of those dice that are just sitting there, waiting to be used.
Why would you want to do that, you ask? Well, there could be a few reasons. Maybe you didn’t get the numbers you wanted the first time around. Or perhaps there’s a better move you can make if you reroll some of your dice. It’s all about strategy, my friend!
Remember, though, you can only reroll those dice that haven’t been activated yet. Once a die has done its thing, it’s too late to give it another shot. But don’t worry, there will be plenty of other opportunities to roll those dice and try again.
So next time you’re playing and it’s your turn, keep this little trick in mind. You never know how a reroll can change the game!
When I play the game, I have the option to reroll my dice. The first time I reroll in each turn, it doesn’t cost me anything. But after that, if I want to reroll any of my unactivated dice, I have to spend 1 energy point.
Choosing to Follow Another Player
When it’s my turn to play, and I’ve just used a die, I give everyone else a chance to decide if they want to copy my move. If they do, they have to spend 1 culture ().
Once they decide to follow, they can immediately copy the action of the die I used. But here’s the catch – they can only do it once per die. And if there’s any disagreement about the timing, we settle it by going clockwise, starting from the player on my left.
How to Move a Ship
So, here’s how you can move one of your ships in this awesome game called “Tiny Epic Galaxies”! Pay attention, because there are some cool things you can do when you arrive at a new planet.
Landing on a Planet’s Surface
When you land a ship on a planet (with the ship standing upright), you have the option to perform the action listed immediately.
Circle the Planet
If you decide to orbit the planet, put your spaceship on the starting spot of the card’s colony track (lying on its side). The symbol at the end of the track determines which action will let you move your ship further along the track: Diplomacy or Economy. The first player to reach the end of the track will colonize the planet.
Rules for Moving:
- When you move, you have to switch planets. You can’t move from the surface to the colony track on the same planet, and vice versa.
- You can put ships on the colony track and planet surface of each planet.
- You can only have one ship on each colony track.
- You can only have one ship on each planet surface.
Sharing Space in the Game
When playing the game, there’s something important to keep in mind – ships from different players can occupy the same colony track spaces or planet surfaces. So, if at any point your ship gets moved, don’t worry, it will be returned to your Galaxy Mat.
Additionally, you have the freedom to move from a planet back to your Galaxy Mat. And the best part? You can have multiple ships landing in your galaxy!
However, it’s important to note that you cannot land on another player’s Galaxy Mat or their colonized planets. So, make sure you stay within your own territory.
Collecting Resources
Hey, did you know that planets can provide us with two different things? Yeah, they can give us Energy and Culture. Pretty cool, right?
So, when we activate an Acquire Resource die, we can get 1 of those resources for each of our ships that are orbiting or on planets with the matching symbol. It’s like a little bonus for our ships being in the right place at the right time.
And hey, here’s another neat trick. We can get 1 energy for each ship we have on our Galaxy Mat. It’s like our ships are powering up our whole galaxy. Sounds pretty awesome to me!
Now, let me show you an example. If we have a planet like the one on the right, and we activate an Acquire Culture die, we would get 2 culture from this planet. Cool, right? That’s 1 culture for our ship that’s orbiting and 1 more for the ship that’s landed. It’s like a double bonus!
When playing this game, you can increase your resources by moving the culture or energy token up the resource track to indicate how much you have obtained.
Remember, you can only have a maximum of 7 of either resource. So, be mindful of how much you accumulate.
If you use up all of a resource, you will need to remove the token from your Galaxy Mat until you acquire more.
Progress in Colonization
When I’m out there in space, cruising around a planet, my mission is clear – I need to find a new home. And that means colonizing. But it’s not as simple as just parking my ship and setting up shop. No, no. It takes strategy, cunning, and a good understanding of the planet I’ve landed on.
Now, depending on the planet I find myself on, I have a couple of options. I can use my diplomatic skills to smooth talk my way into the hearts of the inhabitants, or I can flex my economic muscle and make them see the potential for prosperity. It all depends on what symbol I see on that last space of the colony track.
And boy, let me tell you, that colony track is where all the action happens. It’s like a mini battlefield, with each space representing a step closer to my ultimate goal. So, how do I move forward? Well, it’s simple really. I just activate the die and watch as my ship glides effortlessly forward, one space at a time.
Now, I know what you’re thinking. “But how do I know which colony track to focus on?” That’s a great question, my friend. And the answer lies in understanding the unique challenges and rewards of each planet. It’s like a puzzle waiting to be solved, and I’m the master puzzler.
So, whether I’m using my diplomacy or my economic prowess, one thing’s for certain – I’m on a mission to colonize. And with each step forward, I can feel myself getting closer to my goal. So, buckle up, my friend. The journey is just beginning.
The Exciting World of Colonizing Planets!
Wow, can you believe it? When you finally make it to the end of the track and spot the diplomacy or economy symbol, guess what? You’ve only gone and colonized the planet!
Now, all the ships on that card need to go back to their respective owners’ Galaxy Mats. Time to regroup and prepare for the next adventure!
Grab that shiny new planet card and slide it right under the action section on your Galaxy Mat. Make sure you can still read the planet’s fascinating text and its point value. It’s like having a souvenir from your intergalactic journey!
But hey, this is a big achievement, so don’t keep it to yourself. Shout out your new victory point total to everyone at the table. Watch as their eyes widen with envy!
Remember, as one chapter ends, a new one begins. Grab another planet card to replace the one you just conquered and place it neatly in the gap. It’s a constant cycle of cosmic discovery!
How to Make the Most of Your New Colony
If you activate this die, you can choose to perform either the action on your Galaxy Mat or the action on one of the planets you have colonized. So, basically, you have two options to pick from! Let me explain further. Imagine you’re playing the game, and you have this die right in front of you. What can you do with it? Well, you have the option to use one of the actions listed on your Galaxy Mat. That’s the big board where you keep track of everything in the game. It’s like your control center! But wait, there’s more! You can also choose to use the action assigned to any of the planets you already colonized. These are the little worlds you’ve conquered or settled on during the game. Each planet comes with its own special action that can give you an advantage. Now, let me give you an example. Check out the setup on the right. See those three actions listed? If you activate the die, you could choose to use any one of those three actions. Maybe one of them will give you the boost you need to take control of the game! If you ever need more information about what each planet’s action does, just take a look inside the bottom of the game box. There you’ll find all the details you need! Happy playing!

Level up your kingdom by investing your currency.
When it’s time to level up your empire, you’ll need to spend resources equal to the next level of your empire track. The cost can be paid in either energy or culture, but not a mix of both.
For instance, if you want to move from the second to the third space on the empire level track, you’ll need to spend either 3 energy or 3 culture, not a combination of the two.
Upgrading your empire comes with some perks. First, it increases the number of victory points your empire is worth, as shown on the left track. Second, it allows you to use more dice and ships.
If you earn a new ship, place it in the center of your Galaxy Mat right away. This ship can be used in the same turn. If you gain an extra die, you can use it at the start of your next turn. Be sure to share your updated victory point total.
Converting Dice
I want to tell you about an amazing game device called the Converter. It’s a special tool found on the Control Mat that allows me to change the face of a die to any face that I want.
Here’s how it works: I simply put two inactive dice into the Converter’s slots, and then I can choose the face of a third inactive die and change it to whatever I want it to be.
It’s important to keep in mind that I can only use the Converter once per turn. After I use it, the two dice in the Converter are considered spent, so I can’t activate them or use them later.
When it’s time to finish my turn
Once I’ve activated all the dice I want to use, my turn is over. But here’s something interesting: the other players have a moment where they can follow the last die that I activated. After that, it’s time to remove all the dice from the Control Mat and pass the turn to the next player in a clockwise direction.
When the game ends
When you have 21 victory points or more, the game is over. But here’s the twist – the victory points you earn from Secret Missions don’t count towards the end of the game. So keep playing until everyone has had the same number of turns.
Now it’s time to reveal the Secret Missions and tally up your score. Let’s see who came out on top!
Once all players have taken their turns, it’s time to reveal our Secret Mission cards.
If you’ve accomplished your objective, you’ll earn the bonus points listed on the card. Remember, you’ll need to factor in your victory points from colonized planets, empire level, and secret mission cards.
Here’s the exciting part: the player with the most victory points will emerge as the ultimate winner!
If there’s a tie, the player with the most colonized planets takes the lead. If the tie persists, the player with the highest galaxy level gains the advantage. And if there’s still a tie, the player with the highest combined total of resources claims victory. And if none of these determine a clear winner, it’s time to celebrate the shared victory.
