Welcome to the Chibis Game Rules for Takenoko!
Hey there! Are you ready to dive into the wonderful world of Takenoko? Well, you’re in luck, because I’m here to guide you through the rules of the Chibis expansion. Get ready for some panda-mazing fun!
Introduction
I’m sure you’re eager to understand how to play this game, so let’s jump right into it. Chibis is an expansion for Takenoko, which means it adds more excitement and variety to the base game. With Chibis, you’ll have the chance to explore new objectives and encounter adorable baby pandas. It’s a whole new level of bamboo-munching goodness!
Setting Up the Game
Okay, first things first. Let’s set up the game. Just like in the base game, you’ll need the game board, the weather die, and the panda and gardener figures. Now, we’ll add some new components from the Chibis expansion. You’ll receive new objective cards, plot tiles, and baby panda tokens. These additions will spice up the game and keep you on your toes!
Playing the Game
Now that everything is set up, let’s get down to business. The gameplay in Chibis is quite similar to the base game, but with a few exciting twists. You’ll take turns as the gardener and the panda, just like before. However, there are new objective cards that introduce new goals for you to achieve. These cards will challenge you to complete specific tasks and earn points.
Remember those adorable baby pandas I mentioned earlier? Well, they are a key part of the Chibis expansion. You’ll need to take good care of these little cuties by moving them around the garden and feeding them bamboo. Keep them happy and well-fed, and you’ll earn points.
Another exciting feature in Chibis is the new plot tiles. These tiles can be placed in the garden, just like the regular tiles. However, they have special rules that affect the gameplay. They add an extra layer of strategy and make each game unique and unpredictable.
Scoring Points
Scoring points in Chibis is similar to the base game. You’ll earn points by completing objectives, growing bamboo, and taking care of the baby pandas. Keep an eye on the weather, as it can also impact your points. The player with the most points at the end of the game wins. But hey, remember, it’s not just about winning – it’s about having Panda-rific fun!
Conclusion
So there you have it! The Chibis expansion for Takenoko is a fantastic way to enhance your gameplay and bring even more joy to the table. With new objectives, baby pandas, and special plot tiles, the possibilities are endless. Now that you know the rules, grab your fellow gamers and get ready for a bamboo-filled adventure. Have fun, and may all your panda dreams come true!

Did you know that panda mating season happens from March to May? It’s a fascinating time when these adorable creatures come together. And guess what? The food is always within reach for them while they’re in captivity. I mean, who wouldn’t want a buffet at their fingertips, right?
Now, here’s something interesting. During this time, the male pandas seem to have mastered the art of laziness. They just want to put in the least amount of effort. Can you blame them? But, and here’s the twist, the female pandas have a different agenda. They lose their appetite and start perfecting their vocal calls to capture the male’s heart. Talk about a panda love song!
Normally, pandas have only one baby every 1.5 to 2 years. That’s already a handful, believe me. Now, imagine dealing with nine little pandas. Yeesh!

Miss Panda’s Special Abilities
What makes Miss Panda even more special are her unique abilities. She has a natural knack for problem-solving and is always ready to lend a helping paw. If we ever get stuck or need a fresh idea, Miss Panda will be there to guide us.
Additionally, Miss Panda has a magical aura that spreads positivity and joy. Her presence alone can uplift our spirits and make any activity more enjoyable.
Explore the Possibilities
So, let’s bring Miss Panda into play and let our imaginations run wild. Together, we can create memorable adventures and discover new worlds right here in our bamboo plantation. Miss Panda is here, and the fun is just getting started!

When you start playing the game of Panda and the Gardener, you won’t find Miss Panda on the board. She only comes into play when a player puts down one of the new Plots, which you can recognize by their special symbol. Once a Plot is placed, Miss Panda is placed on that Plot right away.
How Miss Panda Moves

When a new plot with the symbol is added to the bamboo plantation, Miss Panda moves to that plot. If there is no new plot, Miss Panda moves the same way as the Panda does:
- With the Move action, the Panda can only move in straight lines and must move at least one plot.
- If the Weather die shows the X symbol, Miss Panda can move to any plot on the plantation.
Note: When moving, you have to choose between using the Panda or Miss Panda.
Role
When Miss Panda finishes her movement on a plot, she doesn’t eat any bamboo. However, she can give birth to a Panda Baby:
If, after moving, Miss Panda is on the same plot as the Panda, you can return a bamboo section of any color to the reserve and receive a Panda Baby token of the corresponding color.
You’re probably wondering how this works. Well, let me break it down for you. When Miss Panda moves, a meeting must take place after her movement, not before.
Panda Babies: Adorable Tokens with Special Bonuses
Let me tell you about these super cute and charming little creatures called “Panda Babies.” There are nine of them in total, and they come in three different colors: green, yellow, and pink. And guess what? Each of these adorable tokens holds a special surprise just for you!
Now, let’s take a closer look at the back of each “Panda Babies” token. You will find one of three fantastic bonuses waiting for you:
- The green “Panda Babies” tokens have a hidden bonus that will fill your game with excitement. It’s like discovering a hidden treasure chest!
- The yellow “Panda Babies” tokens have a special bonus that will make your gameplay even more enjoyable and fun. It’s like adding extra sprinkles to your ice cream!
- The pink “Panda Babies” tokens have a secret bonus that will make you think, “Wow, I didn’t see that coming!” Trust me, it’s a pleasant surprise!
You see, these “Panda Babies” are not just cute and cuddly; they also have a few tricks up their sleeves to make your gaming experience even better. So, keep an eye out for these delightful tokens and get ready for some amazing surprises!

Irrigation: Wanna know an awesome trick in this game? Whenever you need an extra irrigation channel, just grab one from the reserve! It’s like magic! You’ll never run out of water for your crops.

Rewritten text: Hey there! Guess what? You’ve got an exciting opportunity to enhance your skills in a game. How? Well, let me break it down for you. When you’re playing, you have the option to pick one improvement right away, just like that! Sounds cool, right? This means you can choose the improvement that suits you best and give yourself an edge. So, what are you waiting for? Go ahead and make your game even more awesome!

Purpose altered: I can quickly swap out one Objective card from my hand with a new one from any deck.
If I get a “Panda Babies” token of a certain color, I can pick it from the reserve and immediately get the matching bonus.
Here’s Some Important Information About the Panda Babies:
I want to make sure you understand these important details about the Panda Babies bonus. It’s really easy to follow, so don’t worry!
- Each color bonus can only be used once. Once you use it, you can’t use it again.
- There are 3 tokens for each color. Once all the tokens of a color are used, no more Babies of that color can be made for the rest of the game.
- If you have any Panda Babies tokens at the end of the game, you’ll get 2 Victory Points for each one you have.
Exciting New Goals
Plots to Explore

Completing these goals requires me to focus on specific plots. I need to choose one of the six plots marked with a special symbol, and then I must select two additional plots that are the same color as the symbol. It’s important to keep in mind that all of the chosen plots must be irrigated.

Hey there! If you want to achieve these goals, it’s crucial to have the same number of irrigated plots as the bamboo plantation suggests.
Green Thumb

To accomplish these goals, you must have specific bamboo sections of different lengths and colors in your bamboo plantation. You’ll need at least one bamboo with 2 sections, one with 3 sections, and one with 4 sections, all in the designated color.

I bet you didn’t know this, but there’s a pretty cool method that plays a critical role in making sure some important objectives are achieved. It involves having a specific number of bamboo sections in a bamboo plantation. Let me break it down for you.
Awesome Panda

To complete these goals, you need to have the required bamboo sections in your “eaten bamboo reserve.” Once you have the necessary bamboo sections, you must bring them back to the reserve when the Panda is on the Pond tile. This tile can be either the one from the base game or the new one included in this expansion.
If the Panda is already on a Pond tile at the start of your turn, you can complete these goals without having to move the Panda to a different tile.
New Plots for the Game

So here’s the thing: when you add new plots to your game, they gotta follow the same rules as the ones in the base game. You know, they gotta be placed next to the initial Pond tile, or next to at least two other plots. Easy peasy, right? Oh, and by the way, all the new plots have this cool symbol.
Introducing Kamis Garden

Hey there! So, this plot of land can grow three different colors of bamboo. And get this: when the plot gets watered, a section of each bamboo color is added.
But wait, there’s more! If the Gardener moves to this plot, all three bamboo colors grow, and a bamboo section is added to all the plots next to it that are already watered.
Let me clarify a few things:
- If the Gardener moves next to the Kamis Garden, the same color bamboo as the one he’s by grows in the Kamis Garden.
- If the Panda moves to the Kamis Garden, the player can choose to eat one piece of bamboo of any color available.
- If the Weather die shows a Rain symbol and you want to use it on the Kamis Garden, you can add one section of bamboo in any color of your choosing.
- Oh, and by the way, this plot counts for the three colors in the Plot Objective cards.
You can enhance the Kamis Garden by adding an Improvement chip. This will have a positive effect on all three bamboos. The Sacred Hills is another area worth considering.

(1 Green, 1 Yellow, and 1 Pink)
Hey there! Let’s talk about the Sacred Hill plot. When the Gardener visits this special spot, a bamboo section grows on all irrigated plots of the same color, not just the ones next to it.
Wait, what does that mean?
You might be wondering about placing an Improvement chip on the Sacred Hills plot. Well, good news! You can do that following the regular rules of the game.
Celestial Pond

Guess what? This plot is just like the central Pond in the base game! Cool, right?
Here’s what makes it special:
- All the plots around it get automatically watered. How convenient!
- You can start your irrigation networks from this plot. It’s the perfect starting point!
- The different figurines can move over it and even end their movement on it. Talk about versatility!
- But here’s the catch: bamboo can’t grow on it. Bummer!
Introducing the Gardener’s Cabin

When I step onto this plot, I can right away draw the first card from each Objective deck.
I get to pick one card and keep it in my hand, while I have to put the other two cards back at the bottom of their decks.
Here are some clarifications:
- This plot doesn’t have a color assigned to it.
- Bamboo can’t grow on this plot.
- All the different figurines can move across this plot and also stop on it.
Variants
Note: You can play the following variants with or without this expansion.
Gourmet
The Panda can only munch on the upper sections of the bamboo, not the first shoots.
Diversity
When the game ends, you earn an extra 3 points for each set of different Objective categories (Plots / Gardener / Panda).
