Smarty Party! Game Rules
Hello there! I’m so excited to share the game rules for Smarty Party with you. This game is all about testing your knowledge in a fun and interactive way. Ready? Let’s dive in!
The Basics
Smarty Party is a game designed for players who love a good challenge. To start, you’ll need at least 3 players, but the more, the merrier! The game consists of a deck of question cards, with each card containing six categories for you to explore.
Setting Up
I’ll guide you through setting up the game. First, grab some paper and a pencil because you’ll need it to keep score. Next, shuffle the deck of question cards. Place the deck face down in the middle of the playing area, and make sure each player has enough room to write.
Gameplay
Now, let’s talk about how to play. I’m going to explain it step by step, so it’s super easy to follow along.
Step 1: Choose a Reader
In Smarty Party, the reader is the one who will be asking the questions. The reader should be someone who won’t be playing in that round. The role of the reader will rotate in each round, giving everyone a chance to play and read.
Step 2: Draw a Card
The reader will draw a card from the deck and read the question out loud. Each question has six categories, so get ready for a challenge!
Step 3: Start the Timer
After the question is read, the timer starts. You have 30 seconds to think of an answer for each category. Make sure you write your answers down so you don’t forget!
Step 4: Reveal and Score
Once the timer runs out, everyone reveals their answers one category at a time. If your answer matches someone else’s, you both cross it off your list and score one point. But if you’re the only one with a unique answer, you get two points!
Step 5: Choose a Smarty Pants
At the end of each round, the player with the most points becomes the Smarty Pants for the next round. The Smarty Pants gets a special advantage in the next round, so try your best to be the one with the most points!
Step 6: Repeat and Have Fun
Continue playing rounds, with different players taking turns as the reader, until you’ve had your fill of Smarty Party fun. Remember to keep score and cheer each other on!
Winning the Game
The game ends when you decide it’s time for a winner. You can play as many rounds as you like, and the player with the most points at the end of the game is crowned the ultimate Smarty Party champion!
Now that you know the rules, gather your friends and get ready for a Smarty Party extravaganza. Are you up for the challenge? Let the games begin!

Hey there! So here’s how this awesome game works: We’re all competing to finish last! One person will be the host of the party and choose a category for each round. When it’s your turn, you have to give an answer that matches the category. If you get it wrong, you’ll earn Penalty points. But if you get it right, you’ll be rewarded with the Smarty Pants!
After each round, the players move forward on the board based on the number of Penalty points they have. But here’s the twist: the player holding the Pants can throw away one of their Penalty chips! The game continues until someone reaches Game Over, and the player in last place is the big winner!
Getting Ready

When setting up the game, I always start by placing the board right in the center of the table. It’s important to make sure that the Penalty Chips and the Smarty Pants are placed near the board for easy access.
Now, it’s time for each player to choose their color. Once they’ve made their selection, they can take the two pawns that match their chosen color. One pawn should be placed on the Start space, while the other can be placed in front of them as a little reminder of their color.
The first player to start the game is always the youngest player. This lucky player gets to be the Reader for the first round. As the Reader, they will have control over the Card Holder, the Timer, and the Wager Marker. They hold quite a bit of power!
Playing the Game
Hey there! Let’s talk about how to play this awesome game. Are you excited? I sure am!
To start, all you have to do is click on the “Play Now” button. Easy peasy, right? Once you’re in, get ready for an adventure!
Now, when playing, keep in mind that you control the main character. Yup, that’s right! You’re in charge. Move them around using the arrow keys on your keyboard. Explore the different levels and complete all the challenges.
Oh, and here’s a cool tip: collect as many power-ups as you can along the way. They’ll make you stronger and help you beat the bad guys. Score!
But be careful. This game can be quite tricky. It’s like a puzzle that you have to solve. So, stay alert and think strategically. You got this!
If you ever get stuck or need some help, don’t worry. There’s a handy help button you can click. It will give you hints and guidance to move forward. So, never give up!
And remember, the more you play, the better you’ll get. Practice makes perfect, after all. So, keep at it and have fun!
Well, that’s about it for the game play. I hope you’re ready to dive in and have a blast. Good luck and enjoy your gaming adventure!

What I Do as a Reader
When I play the game, I take a List card from the box and put it in the card holder. Then, I slide the buttons to cover the column of checkmarks.
As I guess the items correctly, I slide the button to the left to reveal the check-mark. If a Smiley face appears, I tell that player to move back one space.
To start the round, I announce the Topic and the number of items in the List. I also share the Wager number, which I can find inside the Yellow pants on the card.
Sample Card

Let’s Make a Bet
When we play, I get to place a marker on either the green YES side or the red NO side. If I think the other players will guess at least as many items as the number we decided, then I choose YES. But if I think they’ll guess fewer, I go with NO.
Once the round is over, I’ll either move my pawn one space backward if my bet was right or one space forward if it wasn’t.
Who Goes First?
Now that I’ve made my bet, it’s time to pick who starts guessing. I can choose any of the other players, and we’ll go clockwise from there.
The Art of Guessing
When it’s my turn, I’ll try to name something on the List. If I guess right, I get the Smarty Pants. But if a Smiley Face is revealed for my answer, I have to move my token back one space right away.
If I guess wrong, I’ll have to take a Penalty Chip (more on that below). And if I can’t think of anything, I also have to take a Penalty Chip. Then it’s the next player’s turn to play.
Now, if I’m taking too long, the Reader will start the timer. I’ll only have 15 seconds to guess or take a Penalty Chip. The Reader won’t consider guesses that have already been given.
But here’s the thing: if I make the same guess someone already made, whether it was right or wrong, I’m allowed to guess again. The Reader gets to decide if my guess is close enough. Let’s make sure we all play fair! Oh, and by the way, if the wager number is reached, the Reader can start timing a player at any moment.
Penalty Chips
Every time you guess incorrectly, you have to take the Penalty chip with the highest value. The first person to guess wrong gets the red 3 chip. The next person to guess wrong gets the yellow 2 chip, and so on. It’s possible to end up with more than one Penalty chip.
Smarty Pants
When you make a correct guess, you get the Smarty Pants. If you have the Smarty Pants at the end of the round, you can get rid of your highest Penalty chip. If you have the Smarty Pants and no Penalty chips, you can move back one space.
End of the Round
The round ends when either all the items on the List card have been correctly guessed or when the last Penalty chip is taken. After the round ends, do the following:

- First off, I’m the Smarty Pants, and I get rid of my highest Penalty Chip or move back a space if I don’t have any.
- Then, it’s time for all the players with Penalty Chips to move their pawns forward. For every 3 chip, you move your pawn ahead by three spaces, for every 2 chip, you move your pawn ahead by two spaces, and for every 1 chip, you move your pawn ahead by one space. After that, all the Penalty chips go back.
- Lastly, it’s up to the Reader to move their pawn either backward by one space if they made the right wager or forward by one space if they got it wrong.
The Next Reader
The next Reader is the player whose pawn is the farthest ahead on the board.
Note: The same player can be the Reader for more than one turn in a row).
If there is a tie for the furthest advanced pawns, the first tied player to the left of the Reader becomes the new Reader.
The Game’s End
The game will come to an end once one of the players’ pawns reaches the Game Over space at the end of a round. The person whose pawn is the least advanced on the movement track will emerge as the winner.
In case two or more players are tied at the end of the game, a tiebreaker will be required – all tied players will continue playing until a winner emerges. The player who originally reached the Game Over space will take on the role of the Reader.
