Bonkers Game Rules
Introduction:
Hello there! If you’re curious about how to play the exciting game of Bonkers, you’ve come to the right place. I’m here to guide you through the rules and help you get started. So, let’s dive in!
Objective:
The objective of Bonkers is to correctly guess the price of a prize within a certain time limit. It may sound simple, but don’t be fooled – it can be quite challenging!
Game Setup:
Before we can start playing, we need to set up the game. First, you’ll need to gather all the players and make sure everyone is ready to jump into the fun. Once that’s done, designate one player to be the “auctioneer” – this person will run the game and keep track of the time. Make sure the auctioneer has a stopwatch or some way to keep track of the time.
How to Play:
Now that we’re all set up, let’s get down to the nitty-gritty – how to play Bonkers.
I, as the auctioneer, will select a prize for you to guess the price of. It can be anything from a brand-new bicycle to a cool gadget. I will then set a time limit for you to make your guess. Once I start the timer, you’ll need to quickly write down your guess on a piece of paper or on your smartphone. Make sure you’re ready to think fast!
While the timer is running, you can call out “Bonkers!” to stop the clock. However, be careful – you only have one chance to do this, so make sure you’re confident in your guess. Once you call out “Bonkers!”, the timer will stop, and you’ll have to reveal your guess to the auctioneer.
If your guess is correct, congratulations – you win the prize! However, if your guess is incorrect, I’m afraid you’ll have to try again. Don’t worry, though – the auctioneer will let you know whether your guess is too high or too low, giving you a clue for your next attempt.
The game continues with the auctioneer selecting a new prize and setting a new time limit for each round. The player who correctly guesses the price of the most prizes wins the game and gets to take home all the glory!
Tips and Strategies:
While playing Bonkers, it can be helpful to keep a few tips and strategies in mind:
- Pay attention to the auctioneer’s clues: The auctioneer will give you hints if your guess is too high or too low. Use these clues to narrow down your next guess.
- Think fast and trust your instincts: Bonkers is a game of quick thinking and intuition. Trust your gut and make your guess confidently.
- Watch the time: Remember, you only have a certain amount of time to make your guess. Keep an eye on the clock and don’t let it catch you by surprise.
- Enjoy the game: Most importantly, have fun! Bonkers is meant to be an exciting and enjoyable experience, so embrace the challenge and enjoy the thrill of the game.
Conclusion:
There you have it – the rules of Bonkers. Now that you know how to play, gather your friends, set up the game, and get ready for an exhilarating time. Remember, the key to success in Bonkers is to think fast, trust your instincts, and have a blast. Good luck and have a bonkers time!
So the goal here is to match the answers on the game cards – that’s what we call hitting Bullseyes! Every round, you’ll earn points for doing that. And the first player or team to reach the Finish space is the winner of the game.
Getting Started
How do you wanna play? If there are 3-4 players, you can compete against each other in Individual Play.
If there are more than 3-4 players, you can split into teams for Team Play. You can either have two teams go Head-to-Head or form up to 4 teams. The number of players per team doesn’t matter as long as they sit together.
Once you’ve decided on the format, every player or team picks a game piece and puts it on the START circle.
The Four Card Categories
What’s the Deal?
Do you ever come across puzzles or phrases that leave you scratching your head, trying to figure out what they mean? Well, here’s a fun game to help you unravel the mysteries of common phrases and objects. All you have to do is fill in the blanks with words that go together to complete the phrase or describe the object. For example, if you see “CLEAR (BLANK)”, you might come up with words like SKIES, CONSCIENCE, or CUT to make sense of it. It’s like a puzzle waiting to be solved!
Let’s say you’re given the clue “(BLANK) MACHINE”. What words do you think would make sense? Maybe VENDING, WASHING, or SLOT? You’ve got the idea! The possibilities are endless, and it’s up to you to tap into your creativity and put the pieces together.
Extra Options
Imagine coming up with words that either begin or end with a specific word. For example, if you’re asked to come up with “Words that start with BACK”, you can think of words like BACKGROUND, BACKBONE, BACKLASH, and so on.
Similarly, if you’re asked for “Words that end in WORK”, you can think of words like FRAMEWORK, NETWORK, ARTWORK, and more. It’s just a matter of adding on!

Unlocking the Alphabet: A Fun Word Game
Let’s play a word game! It’s called “Letter Perfect.” In this game, you try to come up with words that begin with a specific letter or letters. It’s a fun and challenging way to test your creativity and vocabulary.
For example, let’s say you’re looking for female names that start with the letter W. You could think of names like Wendy, Wanda, and Whitney. Or, if you want to find birds that start with the letter R, you might come up with Robin and Raven. The possibilities are endless!
The best part is that it’s easy to play. Just think of words that fit the given criteria, and let your imagination run wild. You can play alone or with friends and see who can come up with the most words. It’s a great way to have fun while also boosting your word power.
So, next time you’re in need of a word challenge, give “Letter Perfect” a try. You’ll be amazed at the words you can come up with!

Let’s Find Some Rhymes!
Think of words that sound like another word. It can be a bit tricky because the words we’re looking for have to have the same number of letters or more.
For example, if we want rhymes for “FLAME,” we can’t use “NAME” because it has fewer letters. But we can try words like “SHAME,” “FRAME,” or “BLAME.” There are lots of possibilities, and some choices might surprise you!
How to Play
Step 1: Choose Your Role
First, let’s pick someone to be the Card Reader for this round. The Card Reader has a few jobs:
- They read the questions to everyone else.
- They set the scoring for the round.
- They keep track of the answers that are called out.
After each round, a new player will take on the role of the Card Reader.
When I look to the left of the Card Reader, I see the Player/Team in the Hot Seat. It’s their turn to shine and show off their quick thinking. Once the 30-second timer starts, they go crazy blurting out answers to the question, trying to win as many points as they can.
But wait, there’s more! All the other players/teams (if there are any) become the Bystanders. They quietly (or not so quietly) think about the question that is read out and listen to the answers given by the Player/Team in the Hot Seat. They hope that the answers are wrong because Bystanders can give their own answers at the end to score points. So pay attention, Bystanders!
Now that everyone knows their role, it’s time to have some fun! The Player/Team in the Hot Seat spins the spinner to select a category. There are four card categories that the spinner can point to:
- What the (Blank)?
- Add Ons
- Letter Perfect
- Rhyme Time
or if you prefer, you can choose your own category.
I then take the first card discreetly from the card box, making sure no one else can see it, and read the question for the category you’ve chosen. Each question has four possible answers: A, B, C, and D. The game board also has four circles labeled A, B, C, and D. Can you see where this is going?
Step 3: Placing Scoring Chips on the board
Now, it’s time for me to make a plan if I’m the Card Reader. First, I’ll read the question and answers quietly to myself. Then, I’ll think about which answers will be the most challenging for the Player in the Hot Seat (and even the Bystanders) to figure out.
Once I’ve decided how difficult each answer is, I’ll need to assign scoring chips to the Bullseye answers. Here’s what I’ll do:
- If we’re playing in teams, all of us in the Card Reader Team should work together to decide where to place the chips. It’s a team effort!
- We have a total of 10 yellow scoring chips, so we’ll need to count them out. We’ll divide them up and put them on the Bullseye circles on the game board.
Once we have the game board set up, it’s time to place our scoring chips on each Bullseye circle. You’ll need to stack the chips in a particular order – one chip, two chips, three chips, and four chips. The challenge is deciding how to distribute these chips among the circles. Remember, the Bullseye circle with the hardest answer should have the most chips.
Let me give you an example of how to place the scoring chips. You could choose to put all four chips on Bullseye circle A, which signifies the answer you believe is the most difficult. Then, you may place three chips on circle B, two chips on circle C, and just one chip on circle D, which represents the easiest answer in your opinion.
Once the chips are set, the Card Reader takes charge. This person reads the question aloud to everyone, flips the timer, and keeps an eye on the answers given by the player or team in the Hot Seat. Excitement builds as we move closer to discovering the right answers. Are you ready for the next step?
Step 5: Aiming for the Bullseye
Now it’s your turn to show off your knowledge! Try to come up with as many answers as you can before the clock runs out. But remember, the real challenge is hitting the bullseye!
Scoring chips are only awarded if your guess matches one of the four answers on the card. These answers are labeled A, B, C, and D. Think of it like a game of darts – you need to hit the target dead center!
Even if there are other right answers to the question, they won’t earn you any chips. The only way to score is by saying the answers that are listed on the card. So keep your focus and aim for the bullseye!
If you’re playing in teams, anyone on your team can chime in with an answer at any time. Feel free to shout out different answers all at once!
Step 6: Celebrate with a Shout of Triumph
As the Card Reader, it’s my responsibility to keep track of the answers you provide while you’re in the Hot Seat. When you give a correct answer, I’ll enthusiastically yell ‘BULLSEYE’ and let you know which choice (A, B, C, or D) you matched. It’s a moment of victory!
Once you hear ‘BULLSEYE,’ gather up all the scoring chips you’ve earned for that correct answer by reaching into the Bullseye circle. Remember, the timer won’t pause, so keep the answers coming!
However, if you give an incorrect answer that doesn’t match any of the options, I might say ‘no,’ ‘nope,’ or simply shake my head to let you know. It’s all part of the challenge!
When you’re the Card Reader, it’s important to be flexible. If someone gives an answer that’s really close to the right one, like saying “Charles” instead of “Charlie,” try to show a little leniency. Nobody likes to be a stickler, and remember, what goes around comes around!
Let’s talk about some answers: Sometimes, you might see an answer on a card with a forward slash, like “Crazy/Nutty.” This means that either “Crazy” or “Nutty” is okay as an answer. You don’t have to say both words.
Also, sometimes you might see an answer with some letters in brackets, like “Pat(rick).” In this case, you can either say the shorter answer, “Pat,” or the longer answer, “Patrick,” and it will count as a hit.
Step 7: Time’s Up. Enter the Bystanders
Note: If there are only two players/teams, then there are no Bystanders! So once the time is up for the player/team in the Hot Seat, just skip Step 7 and move on to Step 8.
When your time is up, it’s the end of your turn in the Hot Seat. If you didn’t guess all the Bullseye answers, the Bystanders now have a chance to try and hit any remaining Bullseyes and collect scoring chips. Remember, each Bystander gets only one guess and has to wait their turn before giving it. Here’s what happens during their turn:
- The Card Reader turns to the first Bystander/Team on the left of the Player/Team in the Hot Seat and asks, “So, what’s your guess?” If the answer is a Bullseye, that Bystander/Team gets to collect the scoring chips on that circle.
If you get the answer wrong or don’t give an answer, the Card Reader will ask the next Bystander or Team for their guess. This continues clockwise until all the Bullseyes have been found or until each Bystander or Team has given one guess. It’s not really fair that the final Bystander has to go last, but someone has to.
As a Bystander Team, you need to agree on one answer to give in order to hit a Bullseye. Discuss and confer with each other, but ultimately vote on the answer that will be your official guess.
Now let’s talk about how the Card Reader can win scoring chips.
Once the time is up for me or my team in the Hot Seat, and each Bystander has made their guess, I reveal the Bullseye answers that no one matched. Then, I pick up any chips that are still left on the board.
Let’s say there are still chips on Bullseyes A and D because no one got the correct answers for those. I collect all the chips on those circles. But there’s a catch – if everyone managed to hit all the Bullseyes during the round (which doesn’t happen often), I don’t get to collect any chips.
However, I don’t get to keep all the chips I collected. I only get to keep half of them. So if I collected 8 chips, I can only keep 4 of them and have to put the other 4 aside.
When you collect chips, you might end up with an odd number. In that case, you round up to the nearest whole number. For example, if you collect 5 chips, the Card Reader wins and keeps 3 chips (because 5 divided by 2 is 2.5, and you round up to 3).
Don’t forget the Card Reader’s strategy: Put the most scoring chips (4) on the hardest answer, which you think is the most difficult Bullseye to hit. This increases your chances of getting the most spoils!
Step 9: Count your scoring chips and move ahead
Now it’s time to move your game piece on the board based on the number of chips you won in the round. This goes for all players – the Player/Team in the Hot Seat, the Card Reader, and any Bystanders (if there are any).
Each chip you won is worth 1 point or 1 space on the board. For example, if you won 9 chips, you would move your game piece ahead 9 spaces on the board (so 2 chips equals 2 spaces, and so on).
Okay folks, here’s the deal. So, after we’ve all made our moves on the game board (you know, if we’ve won any chips), the round is over.
Step 10: Getting ready for the next round
Next round kicks off when we assign new “roles.” The person or team who was the Card Reader before (you know, the one holding the cards) hands over the card box to the person or team on their left side (that is, moving in a clockwise direction). This new person or team becomes the Card Reader for the next round.
Now, the person to the left of the new Card Reader becomes the new Player or Team in the Hot Seat. And everyone else who’s still in the game becomes the new Bystanders.
Game Over
We keep on playing until someone makes it to the FINISH space and becomes the Winner of the Game! Exciting, right?
A quick recap of one round of play
- The Player in the Hot Seat spins the spinner to choose a category.
When you play The Card Reader game, the first thing that happens is the card is taken and the Bullseye circles are scored. The Card Reader determines the number of points each answer is worth and places the corresponding scoring chips on the circles.
Once the question is read aloud and the timer starts, the Player or Team in the Hot Seat tries to match the answers on the card and hit the Bullseyes. These Bullseyes have different values: 1, 2, 3, or 4 scoring chips. If you manage to hit all four Bullseyes during your turn, you win 10 chips and advance 10 spaces on the board.
However, if you miss any Bullseyes, don’t worry! There’s still a chance for a Bystander to hit those Bullseyes later. Alternatively, the Card Reader may collect those chips at the end of the round.
After the chips are counted and the game pieces are moved forward, it’s time for the next round. Each player or team assumes new “roles” and the game continues.
