Ex Libris Location Glossary

My Favorite Libraries

Do you like visiting libraries? I certainly do! Let me share with you some of my favorite libraries that I have come across over the years. Each of these libraries has a unique charm and is filled with knowledge and stories waiting to be discovered.

The Old City Library

The Old City Library is a hidden gem located in the heart of downtown. When I first stepped inside, I was immediately captivated by its vintage charm. Books lined the shelves from floor to ceiling, showcasing a rich history of literary classics. The cozy reading nooks and the smell of old books made me feel like I had stepped back in time. It’s the perfect place to get lost in a good book.

The Magical Woods Library

If you’re in the mood for something a little more whimsical, the Magical Woods Library is the place to be. Tucked away in a forest clearing, this library is a true hidden treasure. As you walk through the doors, you’ll be greeted by the soft sounds of birds chirping and the rustling of leaves. The shelves are adorned with books of all genres, and the mystical atmosphere makes it feel like a fairytale. I highly recommend spending a quiet afternoon curled up in one of their enchanting reading alcoves.

The Ocean View Library

For those who love the sound of crashing waves and the smell of salty air, the Ocean View Library is a dream come true. This seaside sanctuary offers breathtaking views of the ocean from its floor-to-ceiling windows. There’s nothing quite like the feeling of reading a book while the sun sets over the water. The library’s extensive collection of maritime literature adds to the coastal charm. It’s the perfect place to explore the wonders of the sea while getting lost in a captivating story.

There you have it! These are just a few of the incredible libraries I have had the pleasure of visiting. Whether you’re a history buff, a daydreamer, or an ocean lover, there’s a library out there waiting to captivate your imagination. So go ahead, pick up a book, and let the adventures unfold.

Boom! Instant Action – Boom, boom! As soon as I place an assistant, I get to draw a card. Yeah, that’s right, one card for each assistant I have out there. More assistants, more cards! And check this out, I even get to snatch that first player token away from whoever has it and make it mine. But hey, if I already got that token, ain’t nobody taking it from me.

Heads up: The Ghost ain’t allowed to visit the Diviner’s Hut. Just a little FYI for ya, my friend.

Swap ’em Stories

Welcome to Ye Olde Book Swap!

Wow, have I got an offer for you! Let me introduce you to the Instant Effect power of Ye Olde Book Swap. This nifty ability lets you trade one card from your hand with another card from our card area. How cool is that?

Picture this: you’re holding a card in your hand that just isn’t doing it for you. It’s not giving you the thrill or excitement you’re looking for. Well, worry no more! With Instant Effect, you can say goodbye to that lackluster card and swap it for a shiny new one.

But wait, there’s more! Not only can you trade in your old card, but you also have the option to shelve the newly acquired card. It’s like a two-for-one deal. Talk about getting your money’s worth!

Now, before you get too excited, let me give you a little heads up. There are a couple of things you need to keep in mind when visiting Ye Olde Book Swap. First off, if you don’t have any cards in your hand, or if there are no cards in our card area, then unfortunately, our Instant Effect won’t have any effect. So make sure you have at least one card in your hand and that our card area is well-stocked.

So, what are you waiting for? Head on over to Ye Olde Book Swap and start swapping those cards. You never know what treasures you might find!

Auction House

When you want to place one of your assistants at the Auction House, you have four bid spaces to choose from. If there’s already an assistant in one of these spaces, even if it’s your own, you need to choose a bid space with a higher number. However, if the bid is already at four, you cannot outbid it. In this case, you must return the assistant with the lower bid to its player. Don’t worry though, you can place it again on your next turn this round.

Delayed Effect – To take the three cards from the Auction House’s card area, you need to discard a number of cards from your hand equal to your bid space. Once you have these cards, you can choose to shelve any or all of them. It’s up to you!

Note: It’s important to remember that if you can’t discard the required number of cards, you won’t receive anything from the Auction House. So make sure you have enough cards to bid before making your move. Also, keep in mind that if there are no cards in the Auction House’s card area, the Auction House won’t have any effect on the game.

Donation Centre

Quick Outcome – Toss out some cards from your hand or library, and then set aside up to two cards from your hand.

Hangout Spot

Instant Impact – Here’s what you do: Grab a card from the Community Centre’s card area. And guess what? If there are any cards left in that area, be generous and give one to your opponent. And the best part is, you can stash away any cards you get from the Community Centre.

Remember: Going to the Community Centre won’t do anything if there aren’t any cards in its card area.

Dreaming of the Wishing Well

Quick Result – Get rid of some cards from your hand (you can choose not to discard any), and then draw one additional card for each card discarded. You also have the option to put one of the cards you draw aside for later use.

Casino Hideaway

Get Ready for an Immediate Impact! – It’s time to get the game going! First, I’ll start, and then we’ll go around the table. Each player who has an assistant at the Gambling Den has a chance to name a category. Once the categories are set, it’s time for the big reveal!

I’ll flip over four cards from the deck. Now let’s see whose category has the most matching books among these cards. If it’s mine, I win all the cards with matching books. If it’s another player’s category, they take home the winnings. Let’s not forget to discard the remaining cards.

Now, here’s the best part: if I win, I can choose to shelve one of the cards I won for each player who has an assistant at the Gambling Den. It’s a little extra something for having such loyal helpers!

Oh, and one more thing: If there happens to be a tie between me and another player, I’m the lucky winner. But if I’m not part of the tie, then the player closest to me in counter-clockwise order is the champion. Exciting, isn’t it?

Example: So here’s the deal. Anita, Scott, and Sara are playing a game at the Gambling Den. They each have their own assistant, and they’ve given them some pretty cool names: Fantastical Fictions, Spells & Potions, and Corrupted Codices. Impressive, right?

Now, Anita reveals 4 cards from the deck. It turns out that there are 4 Fantastical Fictions, 5 Spells & Potions, and 3 Corrupted Codices. The numbers are in, and Scott is the winner! He gets to snatch up all the revealed cards with Spells & Potions books, and the rest get tossed aside. But here’s the kicker: since there are 3 players with assistants at the Gambling Den, Scott can only keep 3 of the cards he took. Tough luck, right?

Now, let’s imagine a different scenario. What if there were one less Spells & Potions book? In that case, Anita (who happens to be the active player) would have been victorious. Phew! Talk about a close call.

Welcome to the Librarians Lodge

Get ready for some instant results – you have a couple of options to choose from:

  1. I can move one of my assistants from where they are and send them to one of my library tiles to take a special action.
  2. I can trade out one card on my bookshelf with a card from my hand -or- switch a card on my bookshelf with another card on my bookshelf -or- I can take a card off my bookshelf and then put it back.

The Collection Master

Quick and Effective – Get rid of any cards you don’t want from your hand or bookshelf. Look for category icons on the discarded cards that match a category icon on the card in the Book Collector’s area. Draw a number of cards equal to half the matching icons, rounded down. You can put up to two of the drawn cards on your bookshelf.

Bookstore Owner

Quick Fix – Grab a card from the selection at the Book Seller. You can put it on the shelf.

Reminder: Going to the Book Seller won’t do anything if there aren’t any cards available.

Trash Heap

Hey there! Let me tell you about an ability called Delayed Effect. It’s pretty interesting! So, what happens is you name a category, any category you can think of. And then, you search the discard pile – it’s like a place where all the unwanted cards go.

Once you’re there, you get to take any card from the discard pile that has a book of the category you named before. But here’s the catch: if there are no cards with that category in the discard pile, well, you don’t get anything. Tough luck!

Now, let’s say you did manage to find a card with the right category. Cool! You can actually take that card and “shelve” it, which I think means you get to keep it. Pretty neat, right?

Note: Now here’s something important – if there are no cards in the discard pile, then you can’t do anything at the Garbage Dump. It’s like a wasted trip, unfortunately.

Local Drafthouse

Delayed Effect – When I put my assistant on the first space of the Local Drafthouse, something interesting happens. I get to show you two cards from the deck for every assistant you have at the Local Drafthouse.

But here’s the twist. You can only choose one of the revealed cards if your assistant was placed on the first space. After that, it’s my turn to pick a card if my assistant was on the second space. We keep going like this until all the revealed cards have been taken. And don’t worry, you can choose to put any of the cards you take on the shelf for later.

Mystery Shack

Instant Effect: Hey there! So, here’s the deal. You get to choose a category, any category you want. Then, you can sneak a peek at all the face-down cards in the Mystery Shack’s card area, but you have to keep them a secret from your opponents. Next, you reveal and snatch up any cards that have at least one book that matches your chosen category. Pretty cool, huh? Oh, and don’t worry. If there are any leftover cards, you just flip them face down again. Finally, as a little bonus, you can even add one of the newly acquired cards to your shelves. How awesome is that?

Note: Now, listen up. This whole Mystery Shack thing won’t work if there aren’t any cards in the card area. So make sure there’s something to rummage through before you give it a go, okay? Good luck!

Rummage Sale

Quick Impact – Grab a card from the card section of the Rummage Sale. If there is another assistant, even if it’s one of your own, you can take an additional card. You are allowed to put away all the cards you take from the Rummage Sale.

Note: Going to the Rummage Sale won’t do anything if there are no cards in the Rummage Sale’s card section.

Assistants Association

Instant Effect – I can quickly move one of my assistants from a home action space on my library tile to a location’s assistant space that has an opposing assistant. As a result, the opposing assistant goes back to its owner, but they can place it again later during this round. If the location’s effect is an Instant Effect, I activate it as well.

Note: If you don’t have an assistant on one of your library tile’s home action spaces, visiting the Assistants Guild won’t do anything.

Tax Collector

Boom! Instant Impact! So, here’s how it works, my friend. I go first and it’s time to make your opponents sweat. Yeah, they gotta give up a card from their hand or library. Just like that, face up on the table for everyone to see. It’s the Tax Collector’s job, you know?

Now, it’s your turn. You can join in the fun and throw some cards down too. How many? Well, as many as those poor souls in the Tax Collector’s card area. So, let’s say they discarded three cards, you can do the same, and snatch those exact three cards for yourself. It’s like a trade, but for free!

But hey, the fun doesn’t stop there. Once you’ve collected your spoils, you get to choose what to do with them. You can put ’em on the shelf, save ’em for later. Or you can just toss ’em aside. It’s your call!

Welcome to the Yard Sale!

Instant Effect: When I use this ability, I can show any number of cards from my hand. We go in order, and each of my opponents can choose to take one of my revealed cards, put it aside, or simply pass. We keep repeating this process until all of my revealed cards are either taken or my opponents have passed.

For every card of mine that an opponent takes or shelves, I get to draw two cards from the deck. After that, I can choose to put one card from my hand aside.

Note: If I don’t have any cards in my hand, the Yard Sale ability doesn’t do anything.

Shelfmasons Guild

Get ready for an immediate change! You can move as many cards as you want in a row on your bookshelf all at once, but you have to keep them together. Don’t divide your bookshelf into two groups at any point while doing this.
