Library & Special Assistant Glossary
Have you ever found yourself swimming in a sea of confusing words when it comes to libraries or special assistants? Fear not! I’m here to guide you through this tangled web of information.
What is a library?
A library is a magical place filled with books, but it’s also much more than that. Think of it as a treasure trove of knowledge, waiting to be explored. Libraries are like giant bookstores, but instead of buying the books, you borrow them. It’s like having a vast array of stories at your fingertips, just waiting for you to dive in.
So, what is a special assistant?
A special assistant is a superhero of sorts. They are there to help you navigate the complexities of life and make it easier. Think about all the times you were stuck and needed someone to guide you. A special assistant is that guiding light, always ready to lend a helping hand. They have the tools and knowledge to assist you with any challenge you may face.
What are some library terms I should know?
- Librarian: This is the guardian of the library. They are the ones who take care of the books and make sure everything is in order. They can help you find the perfect book for your needs.
- Reference books: These are the books you turn to when you need to find specific information. They are like encyclopedias, full of facts and details.
- Checkout: When you borrow a book from the library, you check it out. This means you take it home with you, but you have to bring it back by a certain date.
- Renew: If you need more time with a book, you can renew it. This means you get to keep it longer, as long as no one else is waiting for it.
- Overdue: When you don’t return a borrowed book on time, it becomes overdue. You may have to pay a fine for keeping it past the due date.
What can a special assistant do for me?
Special assistants can help you in many different ways:
- They can help you organize your life and keep track of important dates and deadlines.
- They can assist you with research, finding the information you need quickly and efficiently.
- They can help you with tasks such as making reservations or booking appointments.
- They can provide you with recommendations for books, movies, or other forms of entertainment.
- They can assist you with administrative tasks, such as managing your schedule or organizing your inbox.
As you can see, a special assistant is like having a personal guide through the chaos of life. They are there to lighten your load and make your day-to-day tasks easier.
Conclusion
Whether you’re exploring the vast world of books in a library or seeking the assistance of a special assistant, knowledge is power. By understanding these concepts and terms, you can navigate these realms with confidence. So dive in, embrace the magic of libraries, and let a special assistant be your guiding light.
Hey there! When I, the sneaky Goblin Sneak, happen to show up in the same spot as my opponents, something interesting happens. Before anything else goes down, I get the chance to try my hand at pickpocketing. How cool is that? Here’s how it works: I pick one of those opponents hanging out with me at the location, and then I name a category, like “adventure books” or “fantasy novels.”
Now, that chosen opponent has a couple of options. They either have to fork over a card from that category, if they have one, or they can show me their hand and prove they don’t have any cards from that category. Sneaky, right? And it gets better! I can do this to all the opponents at the location, one after the other. If I manage to snag any cards during my little thieving operation, guess what? I can place them on the shelf for safekeeping.
Welcome to the World of Automatons!
When the Automaton comes to a place or your library, before doing anything else, you can do one thing for each of your other helpers already there.
The Mummy
Hey there! Let me tell you a secret about Mummy – when I put away a card, you can bury it by placing it either on top or underneath another card in my bookshelf. The card at the bottom gets flipped face down, and its icons don’t count during scoring. Cool, huh?
Now, here’s the catch – you can’t bury more than one card under each card in the bookshelf. At the end of the game, each card that’s buried in your bookshelf is worth 2 points. Add that total to your shelf stability bonus. Sweet!
Oh, and one more thing: If the top card of a buried stack gets discarded for whatever reason, the card underneath isn’t considered buried anymore, but it does stay flipped face down. Just a little heads up!
Let’s talk about the Gelatinous Cube
If I happen to come across an opposing assistant at the same spot where the gelatinous cube is, before any effects or abilities are activated, they have two options:
- They can give me a random card from their hand -or-
- They can let me perform both home actions
The Sasquatch
When it comes to the Sasquatch, it has a special condition for its visits. You see, the Sasquatch can only go to places where other assistants aren’t already there. If by chance an opposing assistant decides to go to the same location as the Sasquatch, you have the power to bring the Sasquatch back to you before anything happens. Don’t worry though, you can put the Sasquatch back into play on a later turn during the same round.
The Bookworm
Hey there! So, when the Bookworm comes to visit during a home action, you get to do two home actions. Pretty cool, right? And here’s the best part – after that, you can choose to get rid of a card from your hand or bookshelf and do it all over again! Talk about a power move!
Cue the Ghost
I don’t get to visit the Diviner’s Hut because the Diviner has done something to keep ghosts away. But I can still go to places where other assistants are and hang out with them. When I do that, I get to draw a card from the deck before we do anything else. Then we can activate the location’s effect. But I can’t do this at places with delayed effects. Now let’s talk about the Snowman.
If I place the Snowman on a space that has an instant effect, no other assistants can go there. It’s like the Snowman has claimed that spot!
And what about the Trash Golem?
If the Trash Golem is hanging around somewhere during step 2 of the Resolution Phase, you have the power to save some cards from the trash. When each location finishes resolving and tries to discard a card, you can swoop in and decide whether to take it for yourself or put it on the shelf. Keep doing this until the location where the Trash Golem is finally gets resolved and its token comes back to you.
The Wizard
When the Wizard puts a card on the shelf, I can move a bunch of cards next to each other to make room for it. I can move them up, down, left, or right. After I do that, I can put the new card in one of the empty spaces. Sometimes my bookshelf might not be connected while I’m moving the cards around, but it has to be connected again once I’m done.
The Witch
Whenever the Witch gets a card that has a Banned Book, something interesting happens. I get to peek at the top card of the deck and make a choice. I can either keep the original card or take the revealed card instead. Either way, I have to get rid of the card I didn’t choose.
The Fiery Imp
Hey there! When that sneaky Fire Imp pays a visit to a place and finds some cards hanging out in its card area, you’ve got a couple of choices before activating any effects. Here’s what you can do:
- You can toss out one card from the card area and do one home action, or
- You can ditch ALL the cards from the card area and do two home actions.
Hey, heads up: If there’s only one card in the card area of a location tile, you’re restricted to option A. Just wanted to let you know!
