Lockup Game Elements
Have you ever played a lockup game? If you haven’t, let me tell you about the important elements that make up this thrilling and engaging activity. When you play a lockup game, the first thing you’ll notice is the sense of mystery and excitement that fills the air. You are presented with a challenge: to unlock a series of puzzles and clues to escape from a locked room.
One of the key elements of a lockup game is the room itself. These rooms are meticulously designed to transport you to a different world. The decor, lighting, and props all work together to create an immersive experience. As you explore the room, you’ll come across various objects and hidden compartments that hold the clues you need to solve the puzzles.
The puzzles are the heart and soul of a lockup game. They can come in many forms – riddles, ciphers, patterns, and more. Each puzzle you solve brings you one step closer to escaping the room. Some puzzles require keen observation skills, while others test your logical thinking or knowledge. The beauty of these puzzles is that they challenge you to think outside the box and use your wits to overcome them.
Another important element of a lockup game is teamwork. Lockup games are usually played in a group, and teamwork is crucial to success. You’ll need to communicate and collaborate with your teammates to share information, brainstorm ideas, and tackle the puzzles together. It’s a great way to strengthen bonds and build camaraderie as you work towards a common goal.
No lockup game is complete without a sense of urgency. You are racing against the clock to escape before time runs out. The ticking timer adds an extra layer of excitement and pressure, pushing you to think and act quickly. It’s an adrenaline-filled experience that keeps you on your toes and adds to the thrill of the game.
When you play a lockup game, you’ll also discover the joy of accomplishment. There is nothing quite like the feeling of solving a difficult puzzle or unlocking a hidden door. Each small victory brings a sense of satisfaction and propels you forward in the game. It’s a reminder that with perseverance and teamwork, you can overcome any challenge.
In conclusion, lockup games offer a unique and exhilarating experience. From the immersive room design to the challenging puzzles and the thrill of teamwork, there is something for everyone to enjoy. So gather your friends, embrace the mystery, and see if you have what it takes to escape!
Welcome to King Taron’s dungeon, Kulbak Prison! Here, you’ll find a game board that has two sides: one for playing with 1-2 players and another for games with 3-5 players.
1 Locations: Inside the prison, there are eight numbered locations: the EXERCISE YARD, the SEWERS, the INFIRMARY, the SMITHY, the COMMISSARY, the CHOW HALL, the CELL BLOCK, and the LIBRARY. Each location is where players will place their crew tokens. 2 Round Track: Keep an eye on the round marker on this track. It shows how far along you are in the game, with six weeks until King Taron’s arrival. 3 Goon Spaces: There are five goon spaces where goon cards will be placed face up as you play. Each goon space corresponds to a specific location. 4 Tome Deck: You’ll find the tome deck right next to the LIBRARY. 5 Item Deck & Display: The item deck is placed next to the CELL BLOCK. Drawn cards from this deck will be placed face up in the item display. Some items can only be used with specific player counts, indicated by icons on the spaces. 6 Reputation Track: The reputation track circles the outside of the game board. Whenever you earn reputation stars, move your marker along this track. 7 Suspicion Supply: Keep the supply of suspicion cubes in this area.
Crew Tokens
When you’re selecting a crew for a job, one thing you have to consider is the importance of Crew Tokens. These nifty little devices provide significant advantages to your team, making it easier for them to navigate challenging tasks and complete them with efficiency.
Crew Tokens are like the secret weapons your crew carries. They offer unique abilities and boosts that can make a world of difference in the success of a mission. From enhancing their physical strength to improving their problem-solving skills, Crew Tokens act as power-ups that can elevate your crew’s performance to new heights.
Imagine a crew member with the ability to calm tensions in high-stress situations. With their Crew Token, they can diffuse conflicts, restore peace, and help the whole team remain focused on the task at hand. This kind of soothing presence can be invaluable, especially in jobs that require a cool head.
Crew Tokens can also provide specialized knowledge or expertise. For example, a crew member may have a Token that grants them advanced skills in computer programming or mechanical engineering. This expertise can be utilized to solve complex puzzles or fix intricate machinery, giving your crew an advantage when facing technical challenges.
But Crew Tokens are not just for individual crew members. They also have team-based benefits. Some Tokens enable team members to collaborate better, improving communication and coordination among the entire crew. Others enhance teamwork, fostering a sense of unity and synergy that can result in exceptional collective performance.
When it comes to choosing the right Crew Tokens for your crew, it’s important to consider the specific requirements of the mission. Each job might demand different skills and abilities. So, understanding the objectives and challenges of the mission is essential to selecting the best Tokens for your crew’s success.
It’s worth mentioning that Crew Tokens are not a magic solution for every situation. They have limitations and can’t guarantee success on their own. However, when used effectively and in conjunction with the crew’s existing talents, they can significantly increase the chances of success and create a more efficient and cohesive team.
So, if you find yourself in need of a crew that operates at a higher level, consider the power of Crew Tokens. These little devices can be the secret sauce that takes your crew from good to exceptional. With the right Tokens in hand, your crew will be well-equipped to overcome challenges, solve problems, and achieve success in even the most demanding missions.
In this game, we use crew tokens to represent our crew members. Each player has six crew tokens that they can assign to different areas in the prison. The crew tokens have two sides – a front side and a back side. The front side shows the numerical strength value of the crew member, while the back side only indicates the crew they belong to.
Let me tell you about the different types of crew tokens:
- The lookout token has an “eye” icon instead of a strength value.
- The enforcer token has a “fist” icon instead of a strength value.
Now, let’s talk about the holding cells. The holding cell is like a tray where each player’s crew tokens are kept. These tokens are visible to the players but hidden from their opponents. They remain in the holding cell until the players assign them in each round.
Just a heads up: Before we get started, make sure to put the cardboard panel in the holding cell. That way, you’ll see the crew’s images through the bars.
Crew Boards
Hey there! Let me tell you about an exciting game feature. In this game, each player gets their very own crew board. It’s like a dashboard that helps you keep track of two important things: the power of your crew’s enforcer and how much suspicion you’ve attracted from the guards.
But wait, there’s more! Your crew board also helps you stay organized. You can use it to keep track of any items you’ve crafted, goons you’ve recruited, and the resources you’ve collected. It’s like having a personal assistant to help you stay on top of things.
Now, let’s talk about the crew board itself. It’s not just a regular board – it’s special. It has two sides: side A, which is the standard side, and side B, which is the advanced side. You can choose which side to use based on how comfortable you are with the game.
Let’s talk about Resource Cubes
So here’s the deal: in this game, there are these four different resources, each with its own color. We’ve got scrap, which is green, potions, which are blue, iron, which is grey, and gold, which is yellow. As you go through the game, you’ll be collecting these resources, and then using them to make cool stuff and hire some goons.
Now, when you get a resource, you snag one of those little cubes from the supply. But when you spend a resource, you gotta give that cube back. We want to keep things fair, so the number of cubes is limited to what comes in the box. That way, everyone’s on an even playing field.
Power & Suspicion Cubes
Hey there! Let’s talk about power and suspicion levels in the game. When we say “power level,” we’re referring to how strong a player’s crew enforcer is. To show this, we use power cubes, which are red.
On the other hand, “suspicion level” refers to how much attention a player’s crew has attracted from the guards. Suspicion is represented by black cubes.
Items in the Game
When it comes to crafting contraband items, you’ll find everything you need at the CELL BLOCK location. By spending the right amount of resources, you can create these items. And let me tell you, they’re not just ordinary items. Once crafted, they give you reputation stars, count as valuables, and can even have special effects!
Let me break it down for you:
1 Reputation Value: This determines how many reputation stars you immediately earn when you craft an item. The higher the value, the more stars you get.
2 Special Effects / Valuables: These crafted items can have special effects, like shields, gems, or magic. And guess what? Each item also counts as one or more valuables. You’ve got shields #image.jpg, gems #image.jpg, and magic #image.jpg.
3 Name: Finally, each contraband item has its own unique name. Keep an eye out for these names when crafting!
4 Resource Cost: This is how much you need to spend to make the item.
Goon Cards
Goon cards are about other prisoners in Kulbak Prison who aren’t part of any player’s crew. The goons that show up each round tell us which parts of the prison the guards are keeping an eye on.
You can invite goons to join your crew at the CHOW HALL location. When you recruit goons, you earn reputation stars and they might give you special powers or count as valuable items.

1 Type: The goon belongs to a specific race.
Special Effects / Valuables: Some goons have special abilities or qualities, while others are considered valuable in different ways. We have three types of valuables: shields (#image.jpg), gems (#image.jpg), and magic (#image.jpg).
2 Suspicion Icon: This icon represents the number of suspicion cubes at the goon’s location.
3 Reputation Value: At the end of the game, recruiting this goon will earn the player reputation stars based on the criteria displayed here.
Tome Cards
At the LIBRARY, you can draw tome cards. Tome cards are special cards that you can only use once.
You can play tome cards whenever you want, unless there are specific instructions saying otherwise. Keep your tome cards a secret until you’re ready to use them.
Once you’ve played a tome card, it’s discarded. At the end of the game, you’ll earn one reputation star for every tome card you haven’t played.
Objective Cards
When you play the game, you have the opportunity to score additional reputation stars by claiming goal cards.
Goal cards come in three different types: instant goals, leader goals, and end game goals. At the start of the game, one card of each type is randomly chosen.
To claim a goal card, you need to meet the requirements specified on the card.
Trait Cards
In the advanced setup, trait cards are used to give each player’s crew a unique starting position.
