Welcome to Preferans!

Hey there! Are you ready to learn about an awesome card game called Preferans? It’s super popular in Russia, and people all over the world love playing it too. It’s a bit different from other card games, but don’t worry – with a little practice, you’ll become a pro in no time!

Let’s Get Started!

Before we dive into the game, we need to do a quick setup. The dealer will shuffle the deck and give each player 10 cards. Then, the dealer will take two cards and place them face down on the table. Now we’re all set!

How to Play

Okay, now let’s talk about how to play Preferans. First, we need to decide on the stakes. This means we have to figure out how many chips will be in the pot, how many chips the winner will get, and how many chips will go into the pot if the bidder loses. Once we’ve got that sorted out, it’s time to start bidding!

When it’s my turn to bid, all I’m really doing is choosing the trump suit. I’ll start the bidding if I’m sitting to the left of the dealer. At that point, I can either pass or make a bid. If I do bid, I’ll be saying which suit I want to be the trump suit. Once I’ve made my bid, nobody else can bid the same suit. And if somebody else wants to make a bid, they have to do it with a higher value than mine.

But that’s not all. After the regular bidding is done, there’s an extra round where we can choose to pass or put additional chips in the pool. The player with the most chips will win the bid and get to decide the trump suit. And if that’s not enough, the winner can then discard two cards and replace them with the two cards in the center.

Once the bidding is over and we have a trump suit, it’s time to start playing the game. The player sitting to the left of the person who won the bid will lead the first trick. And from there, each player has to follow suit if they can. But if they can’t, they have a couple of options. They can either play a trump card or discard a card. When all the cards have been played, the highest-scoring trump card or the highest card of the leading suit will win the trick.

Once we finish all ten tricks, it’s time to calculate our scores. If I managed to complete my bid of taking more than six tricks, I’ll collect the chips that were set aside at the beginning. However, if I couldn’t meet my bid, I must contribute some of my chips to the pot.

Wrapping It Up

The game reaches its conclusion once we’ve played all ten tricks. At that point, we’ll all add up our scores. The player with the highest score is declared the winner of the game.
