Sly fox – learn to play with

SLY FOX

Playing Sly Fox can be quite tricky because you need to keep track of how many cards are in the reserve. Once you start placing cards on the reserve piles, you can’t move them until there are twenty cards in total. This means you have to keep an eye on your card balance and also watch out for any possible plays in the eight foundation piles. It’s definitely a challenging game!

THE CARDS & THE LAYOUT

To play Sly Fox, you’ll need two standard 52-card decks of French cards. Before you start dealing, set aside four Aces and four Kings – make sure you have one Ace and one King from each suit. These cards will be used to create the eight foundation piles.

Let’s start by shuffling the rest of the deck. Then, we can deal out twenty cards face up to create four rows of five cards each. These twenty cards will be our reserve piles. On the left side of the layout, we’ll place the four Aces in a column. On the right side, we’ll put the four Kings in another column. The cards that are left will become our draw pile.

THE PLAY

In this game, the goal is to build up the Ace foundations to the Kings, making sure to match the suits. On the other hand, the King foundations are built down to the Aces, also according to suit.

Let’s start by taking a look at the twenty cards that were dealt to the layout. If you see any cards that can be played onto the foundation piles, go ahead and make that move right away. If there are any empty spaces in the reserve layout, you can fill them up with cards from the draw pile.

Once you’ve played all the cards you can from the layout, it’s time to flip over the cards from the draw pile. If you come across any cards that can be played onto the foundation piles, make sure to place them there. As for the cards that can’t be played, you can put them on a reserve pile of your choice within the layout.

Once twenty cards have been placed on the reserve piles, you can start moving cards from the reserves to the foundations. If you can’t move cards from the reserves to the foundations anymore, you can begin drawing cards from the draw pile again. Keep going like this until you win or get blocked.

You can’t move cards from the foundations, and there’s no reshuffling.

HOW TO WIN

You win the game when you’ve built all eight foundations.
