As the game progresses, the number of cards dealt decreases by one each round. So, in the next round, it’s seven cards, then six, and so on, until you find yourself with a thrilling three-card hand! But don’t worry, the excitement doesn’t stop there. The deal starts climbing again until you reach the thrilling height of an eight-card hand.

Now, let’s talk tactics. In each round, your goal is to form melds, which are combinations of cards, and aim to have as few points as possible. It’s all about using your wits and strategic thinking to outsmart your opponents. Remember, the player with the lowest score at the end of the final round is crowned the ultimate winner!

THE GAME

When we play this game, I get to go first because I’m seated left of the dealer. My options are to take the top card from the draw pile or choose the face-up card. Once I’ve made my choice, I have to decide which card from my hand I no longer want. That card goes on top of the discard pile. Then it’s the next player’s turn.

We keep playing like this, taking turns and making choices. If the draw pile runs out of cards, we flip over the discard pile and start a new draw pile.

SCORZO

The goal of each round in this game is to fill my hand with melds. There are two types of melds I can make: sets and runs. A set is when I have 3 or more cards of the same rank. A run is when I have 3 or more cards of the same suit in sequential order.

When you have a bunch of cards that are melded together, you can throw them down and shout out Scorzo! Then, everyone else gets one last chance before the game is over.

WILD CARDS

Wild cards are special cards that can be used to replace any other card in a meld. You can even use more than one Wild card in a single meld.

HOW SCORING WORKS

When we play the game, we earn points based on the cards we keep that haven’t been used yet. The number cards are worth the value shown on the card, while the Wild cards are worth a solid 15 points. This means that with strategy and a little bit of luck, we can rack up some serious points!

BEING THE WINNER

Now here’s where it gets exciting! The player with the smallest number of points at the end of the 11th round is the grand winner! But what happens if there’s a tie? Don’t worry, I got you covered. We’ll just play one more round. In this special round, each player gets dealt three cards. At the end, the player with the fewest points snags the victory!
