Welcome to Palatinus
In the game of Palatinus, we’re all about conquering our neighbors and claiming their lands for ourselves. It’s an exciting and strategic game where we’ll use our inhabitants to battle other players and take control of new territories. Each inhabitant has unique abilities and powers that can make a real difference when strategically placed on the game board.
Let’s Get Started: Setup
First things first, as the owner of the game, it’s up to you to decide who will go first. Once that’s settled, it’s time to shuffle the territory piles and place one of them in the center of the playing area. Make sure to put the Palatinus token on top of it.
Now, the first player will draw a tile and place it right next to the one in the center. Then, it’s the next player’s turn to do the same thing.
So, here’s what you need to do to get started with the game. First, you’ll need to place all the seven Hies on the board. Easy-peasy, right? Then, take the rest of the laurel tokens and mix them up. There are six Hies left, so you’ll place one token on each of them.
Now, it’s time to get your game set up. Each player will get their own player screen and scoring counter – make sure they match in color. Depending on the number of players, each person will collect a certain number of inhabitants. Finally, put the rest of the game materials back in the box, and voila, you’re ready to start!
Let the Game Begin!
Okay, so now that everything is set up, it’s time to dive into the gameplay. The game is played in clockwise order, which means each player takes a turn, one after another. On your turn, you get to place one of your inhabitants on any unoccupied space on the board. But hold up! There’s a rule – you can’t play any soldiers within the last three turns. So make sure you use them wisely and early on.
Keep taking turns and placing your inhabitants until every single one of them has found a spot on the board. And that’s it! You’re all done and ready to enjoy the game.
When you play with characters that have a dual nature, like a wolf side, you must reveal this side when playing them. Throughout the game, you have the freedom to check your hidden characters at any time.
The Game Ends
The game concludes when all characters have been placed. To determine the points for area control, each player puts their screens on the table and uses their influence track.
The influence of each character determines who controls the hill. The player with the most influence takes control of the hill and earns the points. Whoever has the most points at the end of the game wins!
