MYTHOS TALES
Hey there! So, welcome to Mythos Tales! This game is all about exploring different locations and solving mysteries together. We don’t need fancy game boards for this oneājust our imagination and our voices! But remember, like all good things, our investigations will eventually come to an end. To win, we need to earn enough points by cracking the case!
SETUP
Alright, let’s get started! First things first, we need to choose a case to investigate. Once we’ve decided, we’ll open up the investigation book to the corresponding page. Now, grab the map and unfold it. Put it right in the middle of our play area so everyone can see. Oh, and don’t forget to pile up those requirement cards next to the map and place the time tracker beside them.
When you’re playing the game, you’ll need to keep an eye on the time limit marker. This marker shows you how much time you have left to solve the mystery. It’s important to pay attention to it because it will determine where you need to go next.
Once you’ve chosen a location to investigate, you’ll need to remove the progress marker from its current box and place it on the first day of your chosen location. This will show you where to start your investigation.
Make sure to grab the newspaper that matches your investigation and place it next to the map. Previous newspapers might hold important clues, so don’t forget to refer to them as well.
Before you start the game, one player will be randomly chosen to go first. This player will be given the investigation book, the ally list, and the directory. These tools will help them gather information and solve the mystery.
GAMEPLAY
When playing this game, you go through two different phases: the investigation phase and the solution phase. The game ends when all players finish their solution phase. During the investigation phase, you follow leads to gather more information. You and the other players will travel and encounter different things until the solution phase starts.
During the travel step, you decide where you want to go. As the active player, you have the final say, even if others disagree. To find new locations, you can use any resources available to you. After choosing a location, the progress marker moves along the time tracker. This happens every time you choose a new location, regardless of whether you have a coordinate or not.
Alright, let’s dive in! First, choose a location and move the time tracker. Once you’ve done that, it’s time to read the encounter based on the coordinates of the location. Here’s how it works: the letter represents a district, while the number represents a building.
It’s important to keep notes throughout the investigation, because there will be questions that need answering later on.
If there are no clues at the chosen location, nothing will be written in the Investigation book. But if there are clues, they will be read aloud from the book. Pay attention to the directions given, no matter how interesting they may be!
After reading the clues, it’s time to enter the solution phase. This phase has two parts: Q and A, and scoring.
So, here’s the deal: I’ll be asking you some questions about the investigation you’re working on. We’ll all answer together, based on what most of us think. But hey, feel free to do it your own way if you want. Once we’re done with the questions, we’ll compare our answers to the Answer section and see how we did.
Here’s the fun part: we’ll keep score! We’ll count penalties, sanity points, and our overall score. But hey, remember this: only the locations with encounters count for penalties. The ones without encounters don’t count towards the penalties we’ve accumulated.
The Game’s Over!
Hey there, it’s Ellie! I’m from Northeast Tennessee and I want to tell you about an exciting game. It’s called the solution phase and it’s a crucial part of the game. This phase determines whether you win or lose.
So, here’s how it works: The game ends when the solution phase comes to a close and if you haven’t finished the investigation yet, you lose. To beat the investigation, you need to score enough points and avoid penalties and sanity point deductions. If you succeed in scoring more points than the investigation requires, congratulations, you win!
Let me tell you a bit about myself. I’m Ellie, a proud resident of Northeast Tennessee. I’m a huge animal lover and I’m into all kinds of animals, big and small. I’m also a big fan of fantasy fiction novels. And hey, I can’t get enough of enjoying the great outdoors. I’m lucky to have an amazing husband who adores me just as much as our two furry companions. Being a part of this incredible community is a real delight for me.
