German whist – learn how to play with

Welcome to German Whist!

Hey there! I’m excited to tell you all about German Whist, a super fun card game for two players. It’s kind of like Whist, but with its own cool twists. So grab a deck of cards and let’s dive in!

The Game Setup

To kick things off, we need to choose who goes first. You can do this by flipping a coin or using any other fair method you like. After the first round, the dealer will switch between the two players.

The dealer takes the deck, shuffles it up, and deals 13 cards to both players. The rest of the cards become a stockpile in the middle, face-down. We’ll reveal the top card, though, because that’s going to be our trump card for this round. And trust me, it’s going to be important!

Card Rankings

When it comes to German Whist, it’s important to understand the ranking of the cards. The Ace is the highest card, followed by the King, Queen, Jack, and so on, down to the 2, which is the lowest.

Let’s Play!

German Whist is a game played in two parts. The first part ends when all the cards from the stockpile have been taken, and then the second half of the game begins.

In the first part of the game, we gather good cards for our hands, setting ourselves up for victory in the second half. The player who didn’t deal the cards starts the round, leading with any card in their hand. The second player must follow suit if they can, but if not, they can play any card. The winner of the trick is the player with the highest trump card. If there are no trumps, then the highest card of the lead suit takes the trick.

So here’s how it goes: I win a trick, toss it aside face down, and draw a card from the stockpile. Then you, the loser, also draw a card from the stock without showing it to me. We’ll then reveal the next card from the stockpile, and it’s up to the winner of the previous trick to start the next one.

When we’ve both drawn the last card from the stockpile, we should still have 13 cards in our hands. These 13 cards are what we’ll use in the second round. Our goal now is to win as many of these 13 tricks as we can. We play the tricks the same way we did before, and when someone wins the last trick, the round is done.

That’s the End of the Round!

Once the final trick is played and won, the round is over. The player who has won the most of the 13 tricks is the winner of the round.

Game Over

When it all comes to an end, it’s time for the final curtain call. The game can be experienced in bite-sized rounds or can keep you captivated for hours with multiple rounds. The choice is yours to make!

Imagine the thrill of battling it out in a single round, pushing your limits to emerge victorious. Or picture the excitement of a multi-round showdown, where the ultimate champion is crowned. The game offers endless possibilities, so you can enjoy it however you please.
