Hey there! Let me tell you about Dice Forge, a cool strategic dice game for 2 to 4 players. The aim of the game is to score the most victory points by the end. How do you do that? Well, you earn resources and use them to buy special die faces and feat cards. Sounds cool, right?

Let’s Get Started!

But first, we need to set everything up. The setup is different depending on the number of players, so let’s go through it together:

Place the island board and cards in their proper spots, based on the cost. Don’t forget to set the round tracker to one at the beginning. Inside the foundation next to the island board, there’s the temple. It has all its starting die faces in the right spots. We’re almost ready to play!

So, here’s what you do: first, you gotta pick your character and grab all the stuff that comes with it – a board, colored resource cubes, a light and dark cube, and a character marker. Then, put your marker on the island board where it’s supposed to go, and use your cubes to keep track of your resources – start them all at zero, okay?

Next, we need to decide who goes first. You can either pick someone or have the youngest player take the honor of going first. Whoever it is, they get the first player token – pretty cool, right?

Now, let’s talk about gold. Each player gets some based on their turn order. The first player gets 3 gold, the second player gets 2 gold, the third player gets 1 gold, and the fourth player gets zero gold. It’s a way to keep things fair and balanced.

By Players

When it comes to playing the game, some things change depending on how many people are playing. The number of players affects the number of cards in the card stacks on the island board. If there are 4 players, there will be 4 cards per stack. With 3 players, there will be 3 cards per stack. And if there are only 2 players, then there will be 2 cards per stack.

In the temple, there is a special section called the sanctuary. In games with 4 or 3 players, all 4 sides of the die are used in the sanctuary. But in games with only 2 players, only 2 sides of the die are used in the sanctuary.

The last difference in setup based on the number of players is the number of rounds. When there are 4 or 2 players, the game is played over 9 rounds. But when there are 3 players, the game is played over 10 rounds.

GAMEPLAY

Once everything is set up, you can start playing the game. Your turn is divided into 4 steps.

Okay, here’s what happens in this game. First, I get a divine blessing. That’s when I roll both my dice and pick which effects I want in the order I want them. And in a 2-player game, we do this twice.

Then, it’s the reinforcement step. I can use all my reinforcements (those little gear icons) in the order I like.

Now comes the action step. I have two choices: I can either make an offering to the gods or perform a heroic feat. If I choose to make an offering, I can buy as many different die faces as I want from the temple. I just have to spend the right amount of gold for each face. I add these new faces to my previous ones, but I can arrange them in any order I want. If I go for a heroic feat, I have to spend the required resources and move my character marker to the matching portal. But I can only do this if there are still cards available for that feat. If I’m already at that portal, I get kicked out, so I go back to the starting location and get another divine blessing. When I complete a feat, I activate any immediate effects on the card (those with the lightning bolt symbol) and put the card in one of my three personal discards. I have one discard for cards with no permanent effects, one for situational effects, and one for reinforcement effects.

Now, let’s talk about the fourth step. This step is all about taking an optional secondary action. If you want to, you can pay 2 sun shards to take a second action, just like I explained in step three. Once you’ve completed this step, it’s time to pass the turn to the next player.

The End of the Round

When each player has completed their turn and it’s about to be the first player’s turn again, we move the round token up.

The End of the Game

The game comes to an end when the number of rounds specified, let’s say 6, is completed. Once the game is finished, it’s time to calculate the victory points. You’ll score victory points for cards in your discard pile, as well as any victory points you earned during the game. The player with the highest number of points is declared the winner.
