Robber’s Revenge: The Ultimate Game Guide
Hey there! Are you ready to immerse yourself in an epic battle for control? Get ready, because the daring robber is about to take over Catan!
How to Play
Picture this: you’re in the fascinating world of Catan, where every move counts. This time, though, things are going to be different. I, the determined robber, am here to make my mark!
Your mission, should you choose to accept it, is to join forces with fellow players and stop me from achieving my evil plan. The question is, will you succeed?
The game follows a simple yet thrilling process. Each player takes turns strategically placing a settlement on the board, which will grant them resources. But beware, these resources are valuable, and I won’t hesitate to steal them from under your nose!
Utilize your cunning strategy as you roll the dice to determine which resources are produced. With these resources, you can build and upgrade settlements, roads, and even cities. Remember, the more cities you have, the stronger your position becomes.
But be cautious! I, the robber, have my eyes on every move you make. Whenever a “7” is rolled, I swoop in and place myself on one of the terrain hexes. From there, I can block the production of resources for that specific hex and even steal a card from a rival player.
To maintain control of Catan, keep a close eye on your fellow players. Form alliances, negotiate, and trade resources to gain an advantage. But remember, in this treacherous game, loyalty is not guaranteed. Betrayal can lurk around any corner.
So, are you up for the challenge? Can you outsmart the cunning robber and emerge victorious? Gather your resources, devise your strategy, and let the battle for control of Catan begin!

Before I take my turn, I have a few options to consider:
- I can move Robert to the hex with the highest chance of getting a resource. To do this, I flip the number token on the hex to its blank side. When the number token is flipped, that hex no longer produces resources. If there are two hexes with the same chance, I should move Robert to the hex surrounded by more cities and settlements. If there is still a tie, I move Robert to the hex with the higher number. And if there’s still a tie, I just randomly choose one of the tied hexes. If all the number tokens surrounding Robert are already flipped, I then move him to the closest number with a higher chance, following the same rules for ties.
Step 1: Use Your Soldier Card
If you have a soldier card, you can use it now. When you use a soldier, you need to move Robert back to the desert hex. After that, you can flip up 2 number tokens of your choice. Just make sure that the number tokens you flip are next to a city or settlement owned by any player.
Step 2: Roll The Dice
Remember, only flipped up number tokens will give you resources. If you roll a 7, things change. If any player has 8 or more resource cards, they have to give up half of them (their choice) to the bank. And don’t forget to move Robert back to the desert and flip up 1 number token of your choice. Just like before, the token you flip must be next to a city or settlement owned by any player.
Step 3: Build and Trade
Now you can build and trade as usual. But remember, if you’ve already used the soldier card this turn, you can’t use any development card. And after you roll the dice, you can’t use the soldier either. Oh, and one more thing – once you buy a development card, you can’t use it right away. You have to wait until your next turn.
Note: You can only use one development card per turn.
When it’s your turn, pass the dice to the player next to you in a clockwise direction.
Special Cards
Most of the development cards can be used normally, but there are two exceptions: the soldier card and the monopoly card. You can use the soldier card as described earlier.
The monopoly card works like this: choose a type of resource, and flip over all the number tokens on the hexes that produce that resource (for example, flip over all the tokens on the wood hexes or all the tokens on the pasture hexes).
If you run out of development cards, reshuffle all the cards except for the following:
- victory point cards
- 3 soldier cards for the player with the largest army bonus card.
Difficulty Level
At the beginning of the game, each player is randomly given a certain number of development cards.
| Level | Cards |
| Impossible | 0 |
| Hard | 1 |
| Moderate | 2 |
| Easy | 3 |
End of the Game
The game ends when every player has accumulated at least 10 victory points. This includes points from the longest road and largest army cards.
The game also ends in defeat if Robert manages to flip all of the number tokens on the board. In that case, his plan succeeds, and we all become his slaves on his new island.
