Hey there! Are you ready to dive into the world of Settlers Against Humanity? I’m here to help you understand the game rules and get you on your way to having an amazing game night!
Settlers Against Humanity is a super fun and engaging card game that combines elements of strategy, creativity, and a little bit of luck. It’s all about building your own civilization in a world filled with outrageous scenarios and unexpected twists.
So, how does it all work? Well, let’s break it down.
First and foremost, the game is played with a deck of cards that consist of different types: Resource Cards, Scenario Cards, and Trade Cards. Each card has its own unique abilities and effects that can help or hinder your progress in the game.
The objective of Settlers Against Humanity is to be the player with the most victory points at the end of the game. You can earn victory points by completing scenarios, collecting resources, and making strategic trades with other players.
Now, let’s talk about the gameplay itself. To start, each player is dealt a hand of Resource Cards that represent the different types of resources available in the game. These resources include things like wood, stone, and food, which you’ll need to build your civilization.
Next, the Scenario Cards are placed face down in the middle of the playing area. These cards describe various outrageous scenarios that players can complete to earn victory points. Each scenario has specific requirements, such as collecting certain resource combinations or trading with other players.
Throughout the game, players take turns performing actions, such as collecting resources, building structures, or completing scenarios. The order of play is determined by the roll of a dice, adding an element of chance and excitement to the game.
One of the key aspects of Settlers Against Humanity is the trading system. Players have the opportunity to trade resources and make deals with each other to gain an advantage. This adds a layer of interaction and negotiation to the game, making every play session unique and dynamic.
The game continues until a predetermined number of victory points has been reached or a certain number of scenarios have been completed. At this point, the player with the most victory points is declared the winner!
Settlers Against Humanity is a game that encourages creativity, strategy, and teamwork. It’s a perfect choice for game nights with family and friends, as it guarantees hours of fun and excitement.

When you play this version of Catan, you’ll notice that it tackles some controversial topics. But the main goal of the game is actually to teach you about limited natural resources and the consequences of displacing indigenous people. It’s a unique way to learn while having fun!
What You Need
- Standard Settlers of Catan pieces
- 18 wooden meeples – you can choose tan or brown ones
Setting Up
The set-up is very similar to the regular Catan game, with just one difference: the meeples. In this version, you place one meeple in each resource hex.
Instead of the usual robber, you have the Conquistador. The Conquistador starts in the desert hex. When someone rolls a 7, the Conquistador moves to a resource hex, and any meeples in that hex are forced to move to the desert hex. It’s a tricky situation!
Oh, and don’t forget that one of your first settlements needs to be placed on a 3 for 1 port. Keep an eye out for it!
Playing the Game
The resource hexes in this game only produce resources four times. After that, all the resources in that hex are used up, and the number token is taken away. It’s important to plan ahead and make the most of your limited resources. Good luck!
If I roll a number that has been removed, I have to move the Conquistador back to the Desert hex and remove one of my meeples from the game. That can set me back!
The Soldier development cards give me the power to move the Conquistador on my turn. It’s like having my own little army.
If I have the Largest Army, I can move the Conquistador every turn. It’s a mighty power to have. But don’t worry about those bonus Victory Points on the Largest Army card. They don’t count!
If I manage to complete the Trail of Tears (also known as the Longest Road), I get the Longest Road card. That’s a big achievement!
On my turn, I can move one of my meeples from a resource hex along the Trail of Tears to the Desert hex. It’s a strategic move that can help me win.
Here’s something interesting: if I have the Longest Road card and I meet victory condition #3, I can win the game. But there’s a catch. If I’m tied with another player who has the Largest Army, we’ll have to compare our Victory Point totals to determine the winner.
The End of the Game
The game comes to an end when one of these conditions is met:
Hey there! Let’s talk about victory conditions in a game. When playing, there are a few scenarios that determine whether you win or lose. Let’s break them down.
First, if a player manages to score 10 victory points, they win the game. It’s simple – just reach that magic number and you’re the champion!
Next, there’s another condition that could lead to a loss. If all the resources in the game are used up, it’s game over for everyone. So make sure you manage your resources wisely!
The third condition is if all your little game pieces, called “meeples,” are kicked off the board and sent to the desert hex. If that happens, sorry to say, you lose.
But wait! We’ve got an exception. Remember those players who have achieved either the Largest Army or the Longest Road? Well, they have a special rule. If condition number three occurs, and they are the ones with the meeples in the desert hex, they actually win the game!
So, in a nutshell, victory is all about reaching 10 victory points or avoiding the other three losing conditions. But there’s a twist – if you have the Largest Army or the Longest Road and you’re the one with meeples in the desert hex, you can still come out on top. It’s a thrilling game, full of twists and turns!
