- 1.5 Setting Up the Game First, I’ll place the main board on the table. It’s the central piece that we’ll be using throughout the game. Next, I’ll shuffle the Specialist Tiles to create the Specialist Deck. This deck will provide us with special abilities and actions that we can use during the game. I’ll place this deck next to the board, face down, and then reveal the top five tiles. These five tiles will be placed on the appropriate spots on the board. Now, it’s time to shuffle the building tiles to form the Building Deck. This deck will determine the buildings we can construct during the game. I’ll place the Building Deck on the right side of the board, face down, and reveal the top five tiles. These tiles will be placed in a row next to the board. Next, I’ll shuffle the Fleet Tiles. The Fleet Tiles represent different ships that we can use to explore and gather resources. I’ll reveal five Fleet Tiles and place them on the first five spots of the Fleet Track, which are the light-colored spots located at the bottom of the board. The remaining five Fleet Tiles will be placed face down on the last five spots of the track, which are the dark-colored spots. So here’s what you do: take the Culture Tokens and mix them all up. Then, scatter them around the board, making sure there’s one token on each island. But! Keep’em all upside down for now. Now it’s time to turn’em over, one by one. Oh, and don’t forget – when you come across a mountain token, grab a mountain tile and stick it right under that token. Even if it’s a blank one. Once you’re done with that, you can remove any empty tokens from the board. Easy peasy, right? When we start the game, each of us gets our own meeple, which is a little figure that represents us in the game. We also get some coins and a player mat. Depending on how many people are playing, we’ll also get a certain number of buildings. So, if there are four of us playing, each of us gets six buildings. If there are three of us, we each get eight buildings, but we don’t use the grey buildings. And if there are just two of us, we each get ten buildings, but we don’t use the grey or purple ones. Next, we shuffle the meeples that determine the turn order and put them in random spots on the Fleet Track. This will tell us who goes first, second, and so on. In a game with only two players, we repeat this process twice to determine the order. We also sort the wooden boats and put them close by where we can easily reach them. I’m going to tell you about the different parts of the game called “Queen Himiko’s Game.” There are a few important things to keep in mind if you want to play and win this game. Let’s start by talking about the components of the game. There are several parts to the game, including Prestige Buildings, Sacred Ground Tokens, Coins, and Prestige Tokens. These parts are placed next to the game board and make up the reserve. It’s important to know where these parts are and how they work. The Goal of the Game

Welcome to the Yamatai Game
Hey there! I’m glad you’re interested in learning more about the Yamatai game. Today, I want to tell you all about the rules and how to play. So, let’s dive right in!
Setting Up the Game
First things first, here’s what you need to do to get started:
- On the board, you’ll find islands with different colored territories. You’ll also notice action cards, specialists, and boats.
- Each player will receive a player board, a colored pawn, a set of buildings, and a fleet of ships. Make sure to arrange them as indicated in the rulebook.
- Shuffle the three decks: building cards, boat cards, and bonus tiles. Place them face-down next to the board. Also, put the specialists and the action cards nearby.
- Finally, determine the starting player and give them the first player token. Now you’re all set up and ready to go!
Gameplay
Yamatai is all about strategy and making the best decisions to secure victory. Throughout the game, you’ll be performing one action each turn.
You have four options for your turn:
- Recruit a specialist: Take one specialist card from the available ones, and place it on your player board.
- Place boats and build: Put boats on the board and build at least one building from your reserve according to the cost indicated on the building card.
- Transport and sell resources: Move boats on the waterways, and deliver goods to get gold coins. You can then use these coins during the game.
- Gain money and score: Collect a coin on the bank and then score your islands, as well as any bonuses you have achieved.
Each action you take will require careful thought and planning. Don’t worry if it seems overwhelming at first, the more you play, the easier it will become!
Scoring and Winning
Now, let’s talk about scoring and winning the game. The player with the most prestige points at the end of the game will emerge victorious.
You can obtain prestige points by:
- Building impressive constructions on the islands
- Having boats in harbors
- Completing objectives and delivering goods
- Building a prestigious building like the Sanctuary
Remember, it’s not just about scoring points but also about making strategic moves to hinder your opponents. The winner will be the player who can balance these two aspects the best.
Well, that’s the game of Yamatai in a nutshell! I’ve given you the basics to understand how it works, but now it’s time for you to dive in, have fun, and explore all the amazing strategies this game has to offer. Happy gaming!
Queen Himiko gave me a special task: to construct the grand capital of Yamatai and make it the most remarkable city in the entire archipelago.
So here’s what you need to do: outshine your rivals and create the most prestigious city of all, using the resources from the fleets that sail through our kingdom.
To succeed, you’ll need to plan your strategy, hire experts, and do whatever it takes to become the best builder. Queen Himiko will reward you for your exceptional work. But remember, only one builder will be remembered as the greatest in all of Yamatai!

As I was browsing through the webpage, I stumbled upon this intriguing section about the objects found in the game box. It caught my attention because it’s not often that you come across a game box with a variety of interesting tokens and tiles, along with some coins. I couldn’t help but wonder what these items are for and how they enhance the gameplay experience.
Let’s take a closer look at what’s inside the box. We have a total of 34 Culture Tokens, which I imagine are used to represent different cultural elements in the game. These tokens must hold some significance, as there are quite a few of them.
Next, we have 8 Sacred Ground Tokens. Now, this piqued my curiosity. What is a Sacred Ground Token and what role does it play in the game? It sounds like something that could have a profound impact on the gameplay and strategies.
Moving on, we have 73 Coins. Ah, money! In any game, coins are usually a valuable resource. I can only imagine the countless possibilities that these coins offer in terms of purchasing and acquiring various things within the game.
Then, we have 24 Prestige Point Tokens (or PPs, as they are called). These tokens must hold a special place in the game, as prestige points usually reflect a player’s success or achievements. It’s always satisfying to earn prestige points and see yourself rise on the leaderboard.
Lastly, we have 18 Specialist Tiles. Now, this sounds interesting. Specialist Tiles could represent unique abilities or powers that a player can acquire. It would be fascinating to explore these tiles and see how they can be utilized to gain an advantage in the game.
All in all, these objects inside the game box offer a world of possibilities. From culture tokens to sacred ground tokens, coins to prestige point tokens, and specialist tiles, each item adds its own flavor to the gameplay. It’s like opening a treasure chest filled with secrets waiting to be discovered and utilized. I can’t wait to dive into this game and explore all the wonders it has to offer!

The main goal of the game is to gain Queen Himiko’s favor and score Prestige Points. You can do this in three different ways: collecting money, constructing buildings, and hiring specialists. But remember, only one person can win the game and be declared the winner in the end.
How to Play
Now let’s talk about how to actually play the game. Each round, the players take turns following the order of the meeples on the Turn Order Track. The player who goes first will perform actions #1 to #5 listed on their player mat before the next player takes their turn.
So, that’s how you play “Queen Himiko’s Game.” It’s all about gaining Prestige Points and becoming the winner. Good luck!
Hey there! It’s time to get the next round started once everyone has taken their turn. In a game with only two players, each person gets a whole turn for every meeple in their color.
I. Time to Pick a Fleet Tile #image.jpg
This is where you get to choose the fleet you want to control. Each fleet has ships carrying different resources, with the rarest being gold (yellow), followed by clay (red), stone (black), wood (brown), and bamboo (green).
You have to choose one of the fleets that are visible to you. Once you’ve made your choice, put the fleet tile you picked as well as your turn order meeple on your player mat.
Alright, let’s talk about the boats in this game. So, what you wanna do is take the boats that are shown on the Fleet Tile. You can grab them from the reserve, but only if there are some boats left, of course. You can actually keep as many boats as you want when you take them. Pretty cool, right? But here’s the thing, if there aren’t any boats left for the resource you want, tough luck. You won’t get anything in return. Gotta make sure there’s still some boats available. Oh, and each fleet comes with a special power that you can activate anytime during your turn. So keep that in mind, it might come in handy.
The Adventure of Trading #image.jpg
Trading is a big deal in the Yamatai archipelago. Everyone in Queen Himiko’s kingdom is constantly buying and selling all kinds of goods in order to build their magnificent structures. But here’s the thing – gold is so precious and rare that no one is willing to part with it.
Now, here’s where you come in. As a subject of Queen Himiko, you have the opportunity to buy or sell one boat during your turn. All you need to do is pay or receive the price that’s written on your player mat. Easy, right?
Hold on a second, there’s a catch. You can only make one transaction per turn – meaning you can either buy or sell just ONE boat. Oh, and remember, gold is off-limits for buying or selling. It’s too valuable to be traded. However, some super cool Specialists out there allow you to bend this rule. Awesome, huh?
Step 3A: Put Boats On The Board
During this step, I get to choose which boats will carry resources to the Yamatai islands. The boats will help me either clear the terrain to collect Culture Tokens or build a new building on an empty island.
All players can use the boats and islands.
But, there are some rules for placing the boats on the board:
The very first boat must be placed:
- Hey, here’s how you can place a new piece on the board:
- You can choose to put it in an empty spot that’s marked with a special starting symbol, or
- You can put it in an empty spot that’s connected to a boat of the same color.
You can place more boats on any empty spots that are connected to the previous boat, regardless of their color. This creates a continuous chain of boats.
Building or Collecting: A Strategy Guide to Yamatai
Now let’s dive into the next phase of the game, where you have two choices: collecting Culture Tokens or constructing buildings for rewards. It’s an exciting time!
- You can start by clearing islands to collect Culture Tokens, and you can offer these tokens to the Specialists later.
- If that’s not your cup of tea, you can opt to construct a building instead. This will earn you a generous reward from the queen herself.
Now, let’s explore your options. Remember, you must choose one of these actions, unless circumstances prevent you from completing it.
Collecting
First up, we have the option to collect. For each boat you’ve placed on the board, you get to take a Culture Token. And the more boats you have, the more adjacent Culture Tokens you can snag (including those found on mountains!). It’s a win-win!
Construct
Let’s talk about building structures in this game. The process goes like this:
First, you need to choose a building from the set of options available in front of us. This building will be placed on any empty island that is next to at least one of the boats you have placed on the board during this turn.
Now, to actually place the building, there are some rules to follow. The required boats for its construction, which are listed on the building tile, must be adjacent to the island where you want to build it. It doesn’t matter if these boats are not yours, or if the boats you placed are not used for this specific building. Just remember not to remove the boats you use for construction!
Once you’ve selected the building, take the corresponding tile and place it facedown in front of you. This is now yours to keep.
At the end of the game, the building will reward you with Prestige Points (PPS). If you constructed a Prestige Building, such as a Torii or palace, place the matching building on the island. Otherwise, you can choose to place one of your Standard Buildings.
Remember, buildings offer valuable resources and prestige. They are important assets in this game!

Boosts from Ordinary Buildings
You know how sometimes the simplest things can have a huge impact? Well, that’s the case with ordinary buildings. They may not seem like much at first glance, but they actually play a vital role in our lives. Let me break it down for you.
When you look around your neighborhood, you’ll see all sorts of buildings – houses, schools, stores, and more. These structures are designed to meet our everyday needs. They provide us with shelter, education, and a place to buy the things we need. But they do so much more than that.
Ordinary buildings are like superheroes hiding in plain sight. They have special powers that benefit us in ways we might not even realize. For example, did you know that buildings can help us stay safe and healthy? It’s true! When we’re inside a sturdy building, we’re protected from the elements. We don’t have to worry about rain, wind, or extreme temperatures. And if we’re lucky, our buildings are equipped with things like heating and cooling systems that keep us comfortable year-round.
Buildings also contribute to our overall well-being. They provide spaces for us to gather, socialize, and connect with others. Think about your school or your favorite park. These places give us the opportunity to make friends, play, learn, and grow. Without buildings, our lives would be much lonelier and less fulfilling.
But wait, there’s more! Buildings can even help our environment. Many modern structures are designed to be energy efficient. They use less electricity and water, which reduces our impact on the planet. And some buildings even have green spaces and gardens that provide habitat for plants and animals. So, by taking care of our buildings and making them more eco-friendly, we can make a positive difference in the world.
In conclusion, ordinary buildings may not seem glamorous or exciting, but they are essential to our everyday lives. They keep us safe, provide us with opportunities to connect with others, and can even help save the planet. So, the next time you see a building, take a moment to appreciate all that it does for you. It truly is a superhero in disguise.
If you want to level up your game, standard buildings are the way to go. These babies will give you extra bonus points, and the best part is, you can collect them all! Once you finish constructing a standard building, it’s like unlocking a hidden treasure. You’ll be rewarded with a boost in points that will surely put a smile on your face. It’s like getting a gold star for all your hard work. Plus, the more standard buildings you have, the more bonus points you’ll rack up. So, don’t hold back! Build as many standard buildings as you can and watch those bonus points skyrocket.
When you’re playing the game, there are a few things to keep in mind. First, if you construct your building next to a Torii or palace, you earn one Prestige Point Token for each one that’s adjacent. Second, if you build on a mountain, you’ll also earn one Prestige Point Token. Finally, if you start or increase a group of buildings that are all the same color, you get a bonus. You’ll need at least two buildings to form a group, and each building in the group, including the one you just built, will earn you one coin. So make sure to take advantage of these opportunities to earn points and coins during the game!
- Take 1 Prestige Point Token for each adjacent Torii or palace;
- Take 1 Prestige Point Token if you constructed your building on a mountain;
- If constructing a building starts or increases a group of buildings of your color (you need at least two buildings to form a group, a single building is not considered as a group), take 1 coin for each building of this group, including the one you just built.
So, here’s the thing: for buildings to be considered right-next-to-each-other, they gotta share a border. That means no corners! Just having a corner touching doesn’t count. But get this, to make a group, not all the buildings have to be right against each other. Nope, a bunch of buildings in a chain can still be a group. Cool, huh?
Prestigious Buildings: The Essence of Elegance and Grandeur
When I think about prestigious buildings, my mind instantly conjures up images of impressive architectural masterpieces. These remarkable structures leave me awestruck with their sheer beauty and magnificence. But what exactly makes a building prestigious?
Let me break it down for you. A prestigious building is one that stands out from the crowd. It effortlessly grabs attention, commanding respect and admiration from all who lay eyes upon it. It’s a visual feast, a melange of artistic brilliance and engineering prowess.
Picture yourself standing in front of such a building. The first thing that strikes you is its impeccable design. Every line, curve, and detail is purposefully placed to create an aesthetically pleasing whole. It’s like a delightful puzzle where each piece fits perfectly, crafting a structure that is both functional and visually appealing.
But there’s more to a prestigious building than just its looks. It has an air of exclusivity, a sense that it belongs to a realm of its own. It transcends the mundane and elevates its surroundings, transforming the ordinary into the extraordinary. It becomes a statement, an embodiment of elegance and grandeur.
Moreover, a prestige building serves a purpose beyond providing shelter or a place for commerce. It becomes a symbol. It represents power, influence, and accomplishment. It tells a story of the people who built it and the era in which it was created. It becomes a living testament to human creativity and ingenuity.
But how does one go about creating a prestigious building? It’s a delicate dance between form and function, where every decision must be carefully considered. Architects and engineers collaborate to bring forth structures that not only amaze with their beauty but also serve their intended purpose flawlessly.
When someone sets out to build a prestigious structure, they must take into account the surrounding environment. The building must complement its surroundings, harmoniously blending in or boldly standing out. It must respect the history and culture of the area while pushing boundaries and embracing innovation.
If you’re considering creating a prestigious building, there are a few key factors to keep in mind. First and foremost, pay attention to the building’s design. It should be a reflection of your vision and purpose while capturing the attention of all who see it. Every detail matters, so be meticulous in your approach.
Secondly, consider the materials and techniques used in construction. Opt for quality and durability, ensuring that your building withstands the test of time. Embrace sustainable practices that not only benefit the environment but also contribute to the building’s long-term value.
Lastly, surround yourself with a team of experts who share your passion and vision. Collaboration is key in creating something truly remarkable. By bringing together different perspectives and areas of expertise, you’ll be able to combine the best of all worlds, resulting in a building that exceeds all expectations.
So, my friend, if you’re looking to embark on a journey of architectural wonder and create a prestigious building, remember that it’s not just about bricks and mortar. It’s about crafting an experience that leaves a lasting impression on all who encounter it. It’s about bringing dreams to life and leaving a legacy for generations to come.
Hey there! Let’s talk about Torii and Palaces. These buildings are pretty unique because they don’t get affected by the usual building bonuses. Pretty cool, right?
Now, here’s the interesting part. If you place a Standard Building right next to a Torii or a palace, you get an extra 1 PP when you construct it. And guess what? This bonus keeps adding up with any other bonus you might have. So, more bonuses for you!
Just remember, you can only construct one building per turn. Take your time and strategize wisely!
IV. Place Remaining Boats On Your Mat #image.jpg
Now it’s time to figure out what to do with the boats you didn’t use. Take those unused boats and place them on your player mat. There’s a special spot called the harbor where you can keep one boat for later use. You also have the option to upgrade this storage with the help of a Specialist.
The other boats that you didn’t use will have to be set aside. Sadly, you won’t be able to use them anymore. And here’s the catch – at the end of the game, for every two boats you set aside, regardless of their color, you’ll lose one prestige point. So be mindful of how many boats you leave behind!
Recruiting a Specialist
Did you know you can enlist the aid of a Specialist to gain favor with Queen Himiko? It’s true!
If you offer them gifts, you can recruit a Specialist from the Specialist Track. All it takes is two Culture Tokens of the same kind, or three different ones. And when you recruit a Specialist, you also get to keep the coins that were on their card. Pretty neat, huh?
But remember, you can only recruit one Specialist per turn. So choose wisely!
Once you’ve recruited a Specialist, they’ll stick by your side until the end of the game. Loyalty is a good trait, don’t you think?
End Of The Round
Preparing for the Next Round
When a round comes to an end, there are a few important steps to take:
- First, I’ll add two coins to each revealed Specialist. It doesn’t matter if there were coins already there from the previous rounds; I just want to make sure they’re well rewarded. After that, I’ll check if the Specialist track needs any new tiles. If there’s no more space on the track, the game will come to an end.
- Next, I’ll draw new building tiles from the deck. We need to have five tiles visible at all times, so if I can’t draw a new one, the game will be over.
- Lastly, I’ll take care of the turn order track. Each player will place their meeple on the numbered spot that matches the fleet they used during their turn. In a two-player game, each player will have two meeples and will place them on the corresponding numbers.
First, let’s move the hidden Fleet Tiles to the left side of the Fleet Track. Now, we can see five Fleet Tiles. Put your current Fleet Tile back on the board, shuffle it, and place it face down on the right side of the Fleet Track. This marks the start of a new round.
Now let’s talk about how the game ends. There are a few conditions that can trigger the end of the game. First, if a player places their last Standard Building, you finish the current round and the game is over. Secondly, if there is no boat of a certain color left when setting up a new round, the game ends. Similarly, if you can’t replenish the Specialist Track or the Building Row during the preparation of the next round, the game comes to a close.
Prestige Points: How to Score and Win in Yamatai
In the game Yamatai, scoring Prestige Points (PPs) is essential for victory. Here’s how you can earn PPs:
- If I collect 5 coins, I gain 1 PP.
- For each Prestige Token I acquire, I gain 1 PP.
- Constructing buildings grants me x PPs for each one.
- Hiring Specialists gives me x PPs for each one.
- If I reserved a building but didn’t construct it, I lose 1 PP.
- For every 2 unused boats on my player mat, regardless of color, I lose 1 PP.
At the end of the game, the player with the most Prestige Points becomes the Great Builder of Yamatai and emerges as the winner. If there is a tie between multiple players, the player who made the first move during the last round breaks the tie and claims victory.
