If you have unassembled Sumo hamsters, you can put them together by matching the “body” and “feet” sections based on the color of the belts. Just guide the tabs of the feet section into the body, then twist it to the left to lock it in place.

When playing, each player gets to choose a Sumo hamster and put it in a “home base” at one corner of the board. If there are only two players, the other two hamsters should be placed in the other corners.

Remember to put a scoring peg that matches your Sumo hamster’s belt color into the left-most hole behind its home base. The player who rolls the die next is the one to the left of the player who rolled the die last, not necessarily the one who won a match before.

Roll the Die and Take Action

Alrighty, it’s time to roll that die and make your move. Depending on the side that lands face up, you have three different actions to choose from:

Eat

First up, we have the “Eat” action. Take a look at that adorable Sumo hamster and get ready to feed it! Grab four tasty pellets and place them through the hole in its mouth. Yum! Feeding your hamster ends your turn, so make sure you’re satisfied before passing the die to the player on your left. Bon appétit!

Train

Next, we have the “Train” action. Show off your Sumo hamster’s skills and get them ready for battle! This action gives you a chance to practice and improve your hamster’s strength. So, roll that die again and see what fate has in store for you!

When we start playing Sumo Ham Slam, we all move our cute little Sumo hamsters into the center of the ring, close to our corners. If there are only two of us playing, we also bring the other two hamsters into the ring. I grab the black magnetic wand (unless I have the Champion’s wand) and slide it under the board, making sure the magnetic side locks in with my Sumo hamster. While holding onto one corner of the board, I use the wand to control my hamster and push all of my opponents’ hamsters back into their home spaces without them falling off the board. It’s a challenge!

Remember, I can only push each of my opponent’s hamsters once! If I manage to successfully knock them back home, I win 2 food pellets for each hamster and get to feed them to my hamster. It’s an intense competition, but I love it!

When we shout “Slam!,” both players will use their wands to guide their hamsters and try to knock their opponent’s hamster over or out of the ring. The first player to succeed wins the round. We’ll then start another round, just like before, and continue playing until one player has won two rounds. That winner will claim the Champion’s wand and move their scoring peg up one point. It’s an exhilarating and action-packed game that will keep you on the edge of your seat!

If two hamsters fall over or out of the ring simultaneously, or it’s not clear who won, the round will end in a draw. We’ll reset the hamsters and start a new round. The hamster who wins the round gets to keep the Champion’s wand until they lose it to another player.
