Purrrlock Holmes: Furriarty’s Trail Game Rules

Hey there, detective! Welcome to the wondrous world of Purrrlock Holmes: Furriarty’s Trail. Get ready to put on your detective hat and channel your inner Sherlock Holmes. The game is afoot, and I’m here to guide you through the rules. Let’s dive in!

First things first, the goal of the game is to catch Furriarty, the mischievous feline mastermind. As you step into my paws, you’ll work together to solve the mysterious case that has been plaguing Baker Street. Unravel the clues, collect evidence, and deduce Furriarty’s next move. But be cautious, my friend, for time is of the essence!

To start playing, gather your team of intrepid detectives. You can play individually or join forces with your fellow sleuths. Then, shuffle the Suspect cards and place them face-down in the middle of the table. Each player receives a Detective card, which will give you a unique ability to aid in your investigation.

Now, it’s time to commence the chase! Turn over the top Suspect card and place it beside the deck. This represents Furriarty’s current hideout. You’ll notice that the Suspect card has different symbols on it. These symbols correspond to various Locations, Suspects, and Objects.

It’s time to put your deduction skills to the test. Your goal is to uncover the correct combination of symbols that matches Furriarty’s hideout. How can you do that, you ask? By drawing Location cards, Suspect cards, and Object cards!

You’ll start by drawing a Location card. This card will give you a clue about the hideout’s location. You’ll need to pay close attention because Furriarty loves to hide in unexpected places! Then, draw a Suspect card. This will give you information about one of the suspects involved in the case.

Lastly, draw an Object card. This card will provide you with insight into an object that might be found near Furriarty’s hideout. Put all these clues together like pieces of a puzzle, and you’ll be one step closer to catching that crafty cat!

Once you think you’ve cracked the case, it’s time to make an accusation. Choose one Location card, one Suspect card, and one Object card to form your accusation. Now, reveal your cards and compare them to Furriarty’s hideout card. If your symbols match, congratulations! You’ve caught Furriarty and cracked the case!

But be careful, my friend, for if your accusation doesn’t match, Furriarty will slip away, and you’ll have to start over. Keep track of your failed attempts because each correct symbol you reveal will provide you with valuable information for future investigations.

Remember, detective, this is a game of logic and deduction. Pay close attention to the clues, think outside the box, and work as a team. Together, we can bring Furriarty to justice and restore peace to Baker Street!

So, put on your detective hat, gather your magnifying glass, and let’s embark on a thrilling adventure in the world of Purrrlock Holmes: Furriarty’s Trail! Good luck, my fellow sleuths, and may the paw-some force be with you!

Hey there! Let me tell you about this exciting game we have called Furriarty’s Escape. It’s a game where we work as a team to catch the cunning criminal, Furriarty, before he gets away.

Every round, Furriarty commits a new crime and moves one space closer to escaping through the streets of London. It’s up to us to stop him by solving enough Investigations before he reaches the end of the trail.

If we can solve enough Investigations and catch Furriarty, the player with the most victory points becomes Scotland Pound’s Chief Inspector and wins the game. But if we’re too slow and Furriarty manages to complete his plans and escape London, nobody wins and the player with the fewest victory points will be demoted to Litter Box Inspector.

During the game, we’ll be using deductive reasoning to make guesses about our Investigation. Each of us will have a Clue card that’s hidden from us but visible to the other players. It’s all about putting the pieces together and outsmarting Furriarty!

Alright, let me explain this card to you. It’s got two important things on it: a Suspect and an Hour.

Guess correctly and you’ll follow Furriarty’s trail, collecting Paw Print tokens he left behind. These tokens will earn you victory points and bring you closer to catching him.

To narrow down your Investigation, choose Clue cards from your hand and ask the other players if those cards are Leads or Dead Ends.

Leads are Clue cards that share the same Suspect, the same Hour, or have an adjacent Hour to your Investigation. Dead Ends have none of these connections.

Getting Started

  1. Prepare the trail. Shuffle the Paw Print tokens facedown. Then, place the Furriarty token with a number on it face-up, and line up the Paw Print tokens in a row as shown in the diagram below. Return any unused Paw Print tokens to the box, facedown.

Hey there! Let’s dive into the world of Purrrlock Holmes: Furriarty’s Trail. This game is full of mystery and excitement. It’s like playing detective in a furry world! Are you ready to embrace your inner detective skills and catch the cunning Furriarty?

When it comes to this game, it’s all about following the clues and solving the case. You’ll need to analyze the board and deduce where Furriarty is hiding. With each turn, you’ll reveal face-down tokens and collect information. But be careful! Every move you make could provide a clue or throw you off track.

Understanding the different token configurations is key. Let’s break it down:

In the first image, you’ll find 3 face-down tokens, 2 face-up tokens, the Furriarty token, and 6 more face-down tokens.

The second image shows 4 face-down tokens, 3 face-up tokens, the Furriarty token, and another 6 face-down tokens.

Moving on to the third image, we have 5 face-down tokens, 4 face-up tokens, the Furriarty token, and 5 more face-down tokens.

And finally, the fourth image presents 6 face-down tokens, 5 face-up tokens, the Furriarty token, and 4 more face-down tokens.

By interpreting the clues and analyzing the token configurations, you’ll gradually narrow down Furriarty’s possible hiding spots. Remember, this game is all about strategy and deduction. With each new piece of information, you’re one step closer to solving the case!

Note: When the game ends, the awards on the back of the Furriarty tokens become significant.

I want to talk about something very important. You know when you play a game and there are these things called Furriarty tokens? Yeah, those. Well, it turns out that the awards on the back of these tokens only matter when the game ends. Isn’t that interesting? I mean, you spend all this time collecting these tokens, thinking they’re important throughout the game, but nope, they only come into play at the end. It’s kind of like a surprise, don’t you think? You’re playing the game, having fun, and then suddenly, BOOM, the Furriarty tokens reveal their true purpose. It’s like a secret waiting to be unlocked. So, keep that in mind when you’re playing. Don’t get too caught up in the awards on the tokens as you go along. Save your excitement for the end, when it really matters. That’s when those awards will shine and make all the difference. Trust me, it’s worth the wait.

I need to distribute Card stands and Player boards. Each player should receive one Card stand and one Player board. This is important to ensure that everyone has the necessary tools to play the game.

Now it’s time to draw Investigations. I will shuffle the 60 Clue cards to create the Clue deck. Then, I will deal one Clue card face-down to each player. It’s important that the players don’t look at their cards yet. They should place their dealt card in the Card stand with the Suspect and Hour side facing the other players. This will be their Investigation.

Next, I need to seed the Investigations. Each player will draw two Clue cards from the Clue deck. They will then perform the Investigate action on these two cards. If they’re not sure how to perform an Investigation action, they can refer to the instructions on page 5.

Lastly, I will draw hands. I will deal four Clue cards to the first player and two Clue cards to all the other players. This will give each player a starting hand of cards to use during the game.

Playing the Game

In Purrrlock Holmes: Furriarty’s Trail, we play the game in rounds. Each round, it’s your turn to start.

Your turn is made up of two parts:

  1. Action: You’ll Investigate once and can also Guess once, in any order you like.
  2. Cleanup: Pass 2 Clue cards and then draw 2 new ones for yourself.

After you finish your turn, the game moves on to the next player in a clockwise direction.

Furriarty Strikes

Once every player has taken their turn, it’s Furriarty’s turn to make his move. He moves along the trail and shows a Paw Print token on the way. We need to check if he manages to escape.

When you need to draw Clue cards, make sure to draw them from the Clue deck.

If the Clue deck ever runs out, simply shuffle the discarded Clue cards to create a fresh Clue deck.

1. Action Phase

During the Action Phase, you have to do the Investigate action once and you can do the Guess action once. You can choose the order in which you perform these two actions.

1. Investigate Action (required)

From your hand, select 2 Clue cards and reveal them one at a time. The other players must honestly tell you whether each Clue card is a Lead or a Dead End:

How to play Purrrlock Holmes Furriarty s Trail Official Rules UltraFoodMess

  • A Lead is when the Clue card matches the Suspect, Hour, or an adjacent Hour of my Investigation. The Hours wrap around like a clock, so 12 is next to 1.
  • A Dead End is when the Clue card doesn’t match the Suspect, Hour, or adjacent Hour. I have to rethink my investigation to figure out where I made a mistake. If a Clue card is a Lead, I’ll place it face-up to the left of my Player board (next to the green pipe symbols). If it’s a Dead End, I’ll place it face-up to the right of my Player board (next to the red fish bones symbol).

For example: My Investigation is the Crow 6 (a hidden card I can’t see). On my turn, I start by doing the Investigate action.

So, here’s what happened: I start off by choosing to reveal the Goose 4. And guess what? It turns out to be a Dead End! You know why? Because the suspect is not the Crow, and its hour is not 5, 6, or 7. Bummer, right? But I don’t let that get me down.

But hey, I’m not one to back down easily. I’m just getting started! I then decide to reveal the Rat 5. Now, this is where things get interesting. Turns out, it’s a Lead! How cool is that? The Rat’s hour is right next to the Investigation’s hour of 6. I mean, talk about a lucky break!

Now, armed with this information, I have a decision to make. I can either take a shot in the dark and make a guess about who the culprit might be, or I can play it safe and hold off for now. After giving it some thought, I decide not to perform the Guess action. It’s a risky move, but I’m not quite ready to go all-in just yet. So, I wrap up my turn and pass the torch to the next player.

2. Guess Action (optional)

Now it’s time for you to make your guess. You can choose to guess either the Suspect, the Hour, or both. Once you’ve made your guess, the other players will tell you if you’re right or wrong.

If you’re wrong, the others won’t give you any hints about why you’re wrong. They’ll just let you know that your guess is incorrect.

If you guessed both the Suspect and the Hour, the others can only say you’re correct if you got both details right. If you got either one or both wrong, they’ll tell you that your guess is incorrect.

Guessing Correctly

If you guessed only the Suspect or only the Hour correctly, you get to collect one Paw Print token. Look for the one that’s closest to the start and the furthest to the left on the trail.

If you guessed both the Suspect and the Hour correctly, you get to collect two Paw Print tokens. Look for the two that are closest to the start and the furthest to the left on the trail.

When you start your investigation, grab your Clue card and place it face-up above your Player board. Don’t forget to put your collected Paw Print token or tokens on it! You can look at your facedown tokens, but keep them a secret until the game is over.

Now it’s time to get rid of all your Leads and Dead Ends. Just discard those Clue cards that are placed to the left and right of your Player board. Put them in a face-up Discard pile next to the Clue deck.

Lastly, it’s time to start a new investigation. Draw a Clue card and put it in the Card stand without peeking at it. Make sure the Suspect and Hour side is facing the other players. Then, draw 2 more Clue cards and use them to perform an Investigate action right away.

Example: So, it’s Marty’s turn again, and he decides to start off with an Investigate action. He flips over two cards: Toad 5 and Crow 11. Now, here’s where things get interesting. Marty wants to take a risk and try the Guess action. He says he’s going to guess both details and confidently blurts out “Crow 6.” And guess what? He got them both right! Marty is on fire!

Since Marty correctly guessed both details, he gets to snag the 2 Paw Print tokens that are the furthest away from Furriarty on the trail. He carefully places them on his Investigation board, making sure they match the orientation on the trail. Marty is on a roll! To wrap things up, Marty discards his Leads and Dead Ends Clue cards into the Discard pile and draws a new Investigation card to keep the mystery going.

Guessing Wrong

If you guess wrong, you won’t get 2 Clue cards when your turn ends.

How to play Purrrlock Holmes Furriarty s Trail Official Rules UltraFoodMess

When you don’t draw Clue cards, it means that on your next Investigate action, you need to Investigate using the 2 Clue cards that were given to you.

Catching Furriarty

The Furriarty token on the trail is collected just like a Paw Print token. If you choose to use the Guess action to collect the Furriarty token, then you’ve successfully caught Furriarty and the game ends immediately.

Note: The Furriarty token is worth 3 victory points.

For example: It’s now Jennifer’s turn and her Investigation card is Goose 5. Since the Furriarty token is the first token on the trail, Jennifer is excited to guess. She takes the Investigate action and reveals Goose 2 and Goose 9, both of which are Leads!

So, here’s the deal. I’m going to share some info with you and then I’ll show you what Jennifer did. Sound good? Great! Let’s get started.

Okay, so Jennifer had this game called Guess. And she decided to play it. Her task was to make a guess about the Suspect. Pretty simple, right?

Now, Jennifer had a hunch, and she guessed that it was the Suspect called Goose. And you know what? She was right!

Because Jennifer successfully guessed the right Suspect, she got a reward. She got to take the token that was the farthest away from the end of the trail. In this case, it was the Furriarty token.

Pretty cool, huh? Jennifer made a great guess and got a sweet reward. It just goes to show that sometimes taking a chance and trusting your instincts can pay off. So, think about that the next time you’re faced with a guessing game. Who knows? You might end up with a cool reward, just like Jennifer did.

Cleaning Up: Phase Two

First, I pass the two remaining Clue cards in my hand to the next player in a clockwise direction. If by some chance I have no Clue cards left to give away, the next player will have to draw two Clue cards instead.

Next, I get to draw two more Clue cards for myself. However, if I happened to guess wrong during my previous Guess action, then I won’t be able to draw these two additional Clue cards.

Once the Cleanup Phase is complete, my turn comes to an end. It’s now time for the next player to go, and we continue in a clockwise direction.

The End of the Round/Furriarty’s Turn

Once every player has had their turn, the round comes to a close. Now, it’s Furriarty’s turn to make a move. Just a quick reminder: during the setup, we placed the second Furriarty token between the last and first players.

I advance the Furriarty token one space further along the trails, towards the end. As the token passes each Paw Print, I flip it over to reveal the number of victory points it holds.

When Furriarty reaches the end of the trail and there are no more Paw Print tokens for him to move along, you’ll get one final chance to catch him.

At the end of this round, if nobody has caught Furriarty, he escapes London and the game is over.

Welcome to “Calling “Paws”

During the game, I can ask for the assistance of Purrrlock Holmes to give me a better chance of catching Furriarty. All I have to do is flip my Player board and say “Paws”.

If I do that, I can immediately take the Guess action once. The best part is, I can call Paws anytime I want, even if it’s not my turn. I can even interrupt another player’s action to call Paws.

But there’s a catch. If I call Paws, I will lose 1 victory point at the end of the game. So, I need to think carefully before deciding to call for Purrrlock Holmes’ help.

Oops, my bad! If I accidentally knock over the hidden Clue card that I am investigating, I have to start over with a new one. That means I lose all the progress I made so far. Bummer!

Uh-oh, I knocked over the hidden Clue card my opponent was investigating. Now we both have to start over with new Investigations. It’s not great news because we lose all the progress we made. Talk about a setback!

Game Over

In this game, there are two ways for it to end:

  • If you catch Furriarty, you’ll need to perform the Guess action and take the Furriarty token from the trail.
  • If Furriarty escapes, the Furriarty token will move off the end of the trail.

Determining the winner:

Furriarty is caught

Congratulations! You’ve caught the mischievous Furriarty who has been causing trouble on Baker Street! Let’s see what you’ve collected. Flip over any Paw Print tokens you have and count up your victory points. Be sure to include the Furriarty token. If you called Paws during the game, remember that you’ll lose 1 victory point.

The player with the most victory points wins and becomes the Scotland Pound Chief Inspector. They will be given the Furriarty token, which will now display the Scotland Pound Chief Inspector rank.

If there’s a tie, the winner is the player who completed the fewest investigations (the best Inspector scored more points with fewer cases).

Furriarty Escapes

Sorry to say, Furriarty has pulled off his plans and escaped London! So, let’s tally up each player’s victory points from Paw Print tokens. Anyone who called Paws during the game loses 1 victory point.

There isn’t a winner. But, the player with the fewest victory points gets demoted to Litter Box Inspector. Flip the Furriarty token to show the Litter Box Inspector rank, and give it to that player.

If there’s a tie, the Litter Box Inspector is the player who completed the most investigations (the worst Inspector took on too many cases and didn’t get anywhere).
