Objective

Card Values

To understand the game, it’s important to know the values of the cards. Number cards 2 through 9 are worth their face value. Face cards (King, Queen, and Jack) and 10s are worth 0 points. Aces are worth 1 point. The value of a hand is determined by adding up the points of the individual cards, but remember – only the last digit of the result matters.

Gameplay

Now that you know the objective and card values, let’s talk about gameplay. The Punto game is played between two hands, Punto and Banco. The dealer will deal two cards to each hand, and the values will be evaluated. Depending on the hand values, additional cards may be dealt.

If either hand has a total of 8 or 9 points after the initial deal, it’s called a natural win, and no more cards are dealt. If neither hand has a natural win, the third card may be dealt according to specific rules. The dealer will handle this, so you don’t have to worry about it. Winning

So, how do you win at the Punto game? It’s simple – bet on the hand that you think will have a total value closest to 9. If you bet on the winning side, you’ll receive a payout based on the odds, which will differ depending on the casino you’re playing at. Betting on a tie is also an option, but it’s less common because the odds are lower.

Become the first to collect either 5 cards in a row of the same color (2 players) or 4 cards in a row (3-4 players): horizontally, vertically, or diagonally.

Setting Up

Organize the deck into 4 piles: 1 for each color. Based on the number of players, everyone receives the following cards:

• 2 players: Each player gets 2 sets of color cards.
• 3 players: Each player gets 1 set of color cards. Moreover, randomly deal 6 cards of the leftover color to each player, as a “neutral” color.
• 4 players: Each player gets 1 set of color cards.

Mix all your cards together and place them face-down in front of you.

Playing the Game

When we start the game, the person with the most freckles goes first and shows everyone their top card by putting it in the middle of the playing area. Then, it’s everyone else’s turn to take their cards out one by one and decide where to put them.

Putting the cards next to each other: You can put the cards next to each other side by side or corner to corner. It’s up to you to decide!

Place the highest card: You can only put a card on top of one that has a lower point value.

Hey there! Just wanted to give you a heads up – the playing area can’t be bigger than 6×6. So make sure you think carefully about where you want to place your cards!

How to Finish a Round

Once you’ve managed to line up 4 cards (3-4 player game) or 5 cards (2 player game) of the same color in a row – either horizontally, vertically, or diagonally – you’ve won the round, congrats!

The next step is to choose the card with the most points from your winning row and take it out of the game. Then, all the other cards go back to their respective players and they get shuffled up. Are you ready for the next round?

Now, hold on tight! A new round is about to start, and it’s going to begin with the player who’s sitting on the left side of the previous round’s champion.

A Few Important Notes for 3 Players

• Remember, the neutral color doesn’t count as a victory.
• After each round, gather and shuffle all the neutral cards that were played. Then, deal them back to each player randomly, starting with the winner of the round. Each player keeps any neutral cards remaining in their deck.

If a round ends in a tie, here’s how we determine the winner:

First, we count the number of visible rows with 3 cards in them (or 4 cards in a two-player game). The player with the most visible rows wins.

If there is still a tie, we take a closer look. Whoever created the row of 3 cards (or row of 4 cards in a two-player game) with the fewest points wins. It’s all about strategy!

Game Over, Winner Revealed

Guess what? The player who wins 2 rounds first wins the whole game. How cool is that?

Playing as a Team (for 4 Players)

Imagine this: you and your teammates sitting across from each other, taking turns, and competing in an exciting game. It’s going to be a blast!

Just like in a two-player game, each team gets two sets of cards, each set with a different color. You shuffle them all together to make a single deck, face-down.

Now comes the fun part. You and your teammate split that deck right down the middle, so each of you gets half. That way, you’re both ready to go!
