For example, if you have a follower on a road that is five tiles long, you will earn five points. If you have a follower in a completed castle, you will earn two points for each tile the castle is made up of.

But be careful! You only have a limited number of followers, so you must choose carefully where to place them. Once a feature is complete, you will get your follower back and can use it again in a future turn. The player with the most points at the end of the game is the winner!

The Goal of the Game

Setting Up

First, we need to gather all the tiles and mix them up. Then, we will make several piles with these tiles and put them around the table. Each player should have at least one pile of tiles within their reach.

We should make sure there is enough space in the middle of the table because that’s where we will build our city using the tiles. Each player can choose a color and take 8 pawns of that color.

Hey there! If you’re not playing with four people, just put the extra pawns back in the box. Take one of the tiles and flip it over, then place it in the center of the table. That’ll be our starting tile. From there, we’ll start putting more tiles around it. Easy peasy!

Playing the Game

When it’s my turn, I’ll start playing. Then, it will be your turn, followed by the next person, and so on. We’ll keep taking turns in a circle, going clockwise. This will continue until the game is finished.

When it’s my turn, I start by showing the first tile from the pile I picked. After that, I can put this tile next to any other tile on the table.

The new tile I put down has to connect to at least one side of the tiles already on the table. It can’t just touch the corner of a tile that’s already placed.

Can I put a pawn on a tile?

The tiles in Carcassonne show pictures of children. These children come in four different colors, which match the colors of the pawns.

Whenever you complete a road by placing a tile, you can put your pawn on a child of the same color as your pawn that is shown on that road.

Have you ever come across a closed road? It’s like when a road is completely blocked off at both ends by a house, a pond, or something else. Another type of closed road is one that loops back onto itself.

Now, when you’re playing a game with fewer than 4 players, you need to keep in mind that the kids of colors not in play don’t count. It’s all about the players who are actually playing!

The Game Ends

The game comes to a close when a player successfully places their last pawn on the tiles. And guess what? That player wins the game! Talk about a victory!

Sometimes, a game can have a special situation where all the tiles are already placed before a player finishes putting all their pawns on the tiles.

In this kind of situation, the game comes to an end as soon as the last tile is placed. The winner will be the player who managed to place the most pawns on the tiles. If there is a tie and multiple players have the same number of pawns, then there will be many winners.
