Welcome to the Exciting World of Hi Lo Flip!
I’m here to guide you through the fascinating rules of the Hi Lo Flip game. Get ready to dive into the game that will test your prediction skills and keep you on the edge of your seat!
Game Objective:
The goal of Hi Lo Flip is to correctly predict whether the next card drawn from the deck will be higher or lower than the current card.
Gameplay:
Let’s suppose the first card drawn is a 5. Now it’s time for you to make your prediction. Do you think the next card will be higher or lower than 5?
If you predict that the next card will be higher, you can click on the “Higher” button.
If you predict that the next card will be lower, you can click on the “Lower” button.
Once you click on your choice, the dealer will draw the next card from the deck. If your prediction is correct, you win! If not, the game is over and you can try again for a better outcome.
Tips and Strategies:
Now that you understand the basic rules, let’s talk about some tips and strategies that can help you increase your chances of winning:
- Pay attention to the card that is currently on the table. This will give you an idea of the range you should expect for the next card.
- Consider the probability of the cards that are left in the deck. If there have been several high cards drawn already, the chances of the next card being lower increase.
- Don’t rely solely on luck! Use your analytical skills and intuition to make an informed decision.
- Remember that the game is as much about luck as it is about strategy. Enjoy the unpredictability and have fun!

Ready to score some points and be the first one to get rid of all your cards? Let’s dive into the setup!
The objective of the game is to win discard piles and empty your hand as quickly as possible. Here’s how you can set everything up:
- First, shuffle the deck of cards thoroughly.
- Deal 7 cards to each player. You should keep your hand hidden from the other players.
- Place the remaining cards facedown in the center of the play area. This will serve as a draw pile.
- Take the top card from the draw pile and place it face-up next to the draw pile. This will be the start of the discard pile.
Now that everything is set up, it’s time to start the game!
Gameplay

- Get some paper and a pen so you can keep score. Choose someone to be the scorekeeper.
- Mix up the deck really well, then give each player 7 cards, face down.
- Put the rest of the cards face down in the middle of the playing area as a draw pile.
- Flip the Hi-Lo chip and put it next to the draw pile. If it says “Hi,” the oldest player goes first. If it says “Lo,” the youngest player goes first.
How to Play the Hi-Lo Card Game
When it’s my turn to play the Hi-Lo card game, I first look at the Hi-Lo chip. If it’s facing “Hi,” I need to find a card in my hand that has a higher value than the top card on the discard pile. But if the chip is facing “Lo,” then I need to play a card with a lower value.
Here’s an important tip: If we’re starting a new round, we should create a new discard pile. To do this, I just need to play any card from my hand next to the draw pile.

In this game, you have to play a card if you can. But if you can’t, flip the Hi-Lo chip. If it lands on the opposite side, play a card from your hand and end your turn.
If it lands on the same side as before, draw the top card from the draw pile and play it if you can. If you still can’t play a card, you’ll make a “reset” play instead.
To make a reset play, first, the player who recently played a card collects all the cards in the discard pile. Keep the collected cards face down in a pile in front of you. Then, play any card from your hand to start a new discard pile.
Play continues clockwise, with the next player following the same rules as above.
Note: If the draw pile runs out of cards, keep the top card of the discard pile and shuffle the rest of the cards in the discard pile to create a new draw pile.
Special Card Abilities
If you play a card ending in “1”: When you play one of these cards, the next player has to draw 1 card and skip their turn right away.
Let me explain it more clearly:

- When a player gets skipped, the next player has a chance to make a move. If they can’t, the person who played the card that ends in 1 gets all the cards that were discarded.
- In a game with two players, if you play a card that ends in 1, you get another turn. But if you can’t make a valid move during that turn, you have to start over and your opponent gets all the cards that were discarded.
Hey there! Let me tell you about this cool card game rule. So, when you play a card that ends in the number 2, you have to play another card right away, unless that was your very last card to play. Pretty straightforward, right?
Here’s some extra info to clear things up:

- If you find yourself playing a card with a number ending in 2, but you don’t have another card to play, there’s an interesting twist to the game. It’s called a reset play, and it comes with a special rule.
- During a reset play, if you play a card ending in 2, but still don’t have another card to play, you have to reset again. And here’s the catch – you have to give the discard pile to the player who last played a card before you.
Cards ending in “0”: These cards are worth 10 points each when we finish counting the points at the end of the round.
Ending the Round
The round ends when I get rid of all the cards in my hand. That means I win all the cards in the discard pile and I even get a bonus of 10 points for being the first to do so.
Then we need to count the cards we all collected. Each card ending in “0” is worth 10 points, and all the other cards are worth 1 point each.
I will tell you how many points I have, and you can do the same. The person keeping score will add it all up.
Start a New Round
To start a new round, we put all the cards together, mix them up really well, and give each player a new hand of 7 cards. The Hi-Lo chip stays on the same side as before, and the person who was in last place starts the next round.
When it comes to determining who goes first in the game, there is a simple rule to follow. If there happens to be a tie for last place, then the player who is either the oldest or the youngest will start. This will depend on whether the Hi-Lo chip is showing the face-up side or not.
Bringing the Game to a Close
The game reaches its end when any player manages to gather a minimum of 75 points by the conclusion of a round. In the end, the player with the highest score emerges as the ultimate winner.
