Let’s Play the Game!
Ready to have some fun matching tiles? I’ll show you how to play. The objective of the game is simple – turn over tiles and try to match them to the pictures on your guest checks. It’s like a puzzle game!
Each time you match all the pictures on one guest check, you’ll earn a tip. And that’s a priceless Gamewright buck! Collect your tips as you play each round, and the first player to collect $5 in tips is the winner. Exciting, right?
Setting Up the Game
Now, let’s get everything ready for the game. First, place all 40 tiles face-down on the table. This will be the starting point for our tile flipping adventure.
Next, divide the guest checks among the players. Here’s how many to give each player:
- For a game with 2 players, give 4 guest checks to each player.
- For a game with 3 players, give 2 guest checks to each player.
Alright, let’s get started on some game instructions! Here’s what you need to do:
If you’re playing with 4 players, each player will get 2 guest checks. These are like special cards that you’ll use during the game.
But if you’re playing with just 3 players, you’ll have 2 extra guest checks that won’t be used. Just put them aside in the box.
Now, one of you will be in charge of giving out some special money called Gamewright bucks. You’ll give these bucks as tips when you earn them in the game.
That’s it! You’re all set to start playing. Have fun and enjoy your time together!

How to Play the Game
Alright, folks, let’s get this party started! First things first, everyone, lay your cards face-up in front of you. Yeah, you heard me right, face-up – we don’t want any sneaky moves here. And just to clarify, when I say “he,” I mean “he or she.” Fair game, right?
Now, here’s the deal. The youngest player goes first. It’s only right to give the young ones a chance to shine, don’t you think? We’re going to keep things moving in a nice, clockwise direction, so pay attention to whose turn it is.
Matching Tiles to Guest Checks
Okay, now let’s talk strategy. On your turn, you pick two tiles and flip ’em over for everyone to see. This is where the real action begins. You see, if both of those tiles match any of the food or cooks on your guest checks, we’ve got ourselves a match, baby! Exciting, isn’t it?
When you make a match, you keep the tiles and take it to the next level by placing them right next to the matching pictures on your guest checks. Show off those culinary skills! But here’s the catch – both tiles must match the pictures on any of your guest checks. If only one of them matches, tough luck, my friend. You gotta flip both tiles back over. It’s a cruel world sometimes, I know.
So, there you have it, my friends. That’s how we roll in this game. Remember, be sharp, be quick, and most importantly, have fun!
Let’s say you have a guest check and it shows “Flap Jack Mac”. Then, you have another guest check that shows a “Banana Split”. Now, here’s what you do: you turn over a tile that has “Flap Jack Mac” written on it, and another tile that has “Banana Split” on it. After turning over the tiles, you place them next to the pictures on the guest checks that match.
Okay, here’s where it gets interesting: every time you match both tiles, you get to turn over two more tiles. That means you have a chance to find even more matches! But, if you don’t match both tiles, you have to turn them face-down again once everyone has had a chance to see them. Then, it becomes the next player’s turn. Got it?
Matt and His Mitt
If you find a matching pair of Matt and his mitt by flipping over the tiles, you can keep them and earn an extra tip. Make sure to flip over two more tiles afterwards to continue.
Cranky Customers
If you happen to turn over a cranky customer (you’ll know one when you see one), your turn will immediately end. Unfortunately, you won’t be able to flip over a second tile if the cranky customer was the first tile you picked.
Completing Guest Checks and Collecting Tips
Once you have matched all the tiles to the corresponding foods and cooks on a guest check, that guest check is considered complete. Return the guest check and its tiles back to the game box because they won’t be used again in this round.
Every time you complete a guest check, you will earn one Gamewright buck as your tip.
The Round’s Conclusion
Once I finish completing all my guest checks, the round comes to an end. There won’t be any more tiles to flip over or guest checks to finish. I get to keep the tips I earned and prepare for the next round of play.
What Happens Next
All the tiles are scrambled and placed face-down on the table once again. I collect and shuffle all the guest checks, then distribute them among the players. If there are three players, I put the two remaining checks back in the box. The player who is the youngest gets to take the first turn.
We continue playing just like before for as many rounds as we want.
The Game’s Conclusion
The game comes to an end when the first player collects $5 in tips.
If we want a more challenging game, we can set the winning tip amount at $6 for three players, or $10 for two players.
For Beginners
A Simpler Version
Hey there! Did you know that you can make the game easier and shorter? Yeah, you can do that by using fewer food and cook tiles. Oh, and don’t forget to remove the corresponding guest checks. Some people even play with just one Matt and his mitt, but we find it more fun to use two. If you want an even more relaxed game, you can also use fewer cranky customers or get rid of them completely.
Want to Play Together?
If you want to play cooperatively, here’s what you can do. Divide the guest checks among all the players. If there are extra ones, just put them in the middle of the table so everyone can share. And here’s something cool: as you make matches, you’ll earn tips! The best part is that all players will end the game with the same number of tips, so it’s a fair game for everyone.
Now, let me tell you how each turn goes. It’s pretty simple. One player flips over two tiles, and then shows them to everyone else. Easy peasy!
So here’s how the game goes: I start by checking if any of the tiles match with my guest checks. If they do, I keep the matching tile and place it on my guest check. The tile that doesn’t match gets passed to the next player, and they try to match it with their guest checks. If they can’t, they pass it to the player after them.
But if both tiles match, I don’t turn over two more tiles. My turn ends, and the player on my left goes next. It keeps the flow going.
Now, if the tiles don’t match, I have to pass them to the next player on my left and say, “Dish it up, please!” That player then tries to match the tiles with their guest checks. If they can’t, they pass the tiles to the next player. And if none of us can match the tiles to our guest checks, the last player gets to match them with the community checks.
You know what? The cranky customer doesn’t stop me from taking another turn. Even if I reveal a crank as the first tile, I can still give it another shot and flip over another one to make a match. And don’t worry, the crank goes right back to where it came from – the table.
Now, when I uncover Matt and his mitt, things get a little different. I put them next to my guest checks, but I don’t get any tip for that. However, I do get the chance to flip over two more tiles. Just remember, if I don’t uncover both Matt and his mitt at the same time, they go back to the table. No passing them around!
Here’s the deal: the game keeps going until I match all the tiles to their respective guest checks. That’s when it’s game over. Simple enough, right?
