6. Stay Persistent

Coyotes are known for their determination. Even when facing adversity, they never give up. Keep pushing forward, and you will overcome any challenges that come your way.

7. Have Fun!

Most importantly, have fun! The Coyote Game is a thrilling adventure meant to be enjoyed. Let your imagination run wild and immerse yourself in this exciting journey! Get ready to have a howling good time!

In Coyote, I get to play the role of Indians. I put on a bandana with a “feather” attached to it. The fun part is that my goal is to guess the value of everyone’s feathers, without knowing the value of my own!

If I can guess correctly, I win! But most of the time, I’ll win by bluffing. If I guess wrong, I become a true coyote!

Now, before we start playing, we need to set everything up. I have to be careful with the coins. There are a total of 20 coins, but only the ones with a picture of a coyote have a Velcro button on the back.

We take the 12 coyote coins and attach a Velcro button to each one. Make sure to do this carefully! The remaining 8 coins are for the “Advanced Rules”. If we’re not using those rules, we can put them back in the box.

When we play the game, we start by each of us putting on a bandana. We wear it on our heads, making sure the Velcro strip is in the middle of our foreheads and shows on the outside.

Now, let’s get the feathers ready. We take all 30 of them and shuffle them up. Then we stack them face down, making a pile in the center of the table.

Okay, it’s time to start the game! Since I’m the youngest player, I’ll go first in the first round. Let’s have some fun!

Let’s Play the Game

Hey there! Are you ready to play Coyote? It’s a cool game that I’m about to explain to you. Get ready for some fun!

So, here’s how it goes. Coyote is played over multiple rounds. Each round is like a little adventure where we all try to guess the total value of the feathers. Sounds intriguing, right?

Now pay attention because I’m about to tell you what happens at the beginning of each round. Are you ready? Good!

At the start of a round, every player reaches into the pile and grabs one feather. But here’s the twist – you can’t look at it! Nope, no peeking allowed. Instead, you need to take the feather and stick it in your bandana in a way that the printed value is visible to everyone else. Oh, by the way, each bandana has a small hole where you can put the tip of your feather through. That way, everyone can see the value except for the person wearing the bandana. Sneaky, huh?

Remember, you can never look at your own feather. It’s a mystery, even to you!

Now, here’s where it gets really interesting. The first player, let’s call him the “Guesser,” starts by looking at the values on everyone else’s feathers. The Guesser has to be a super detective and try to figure out the total value of all the feathers, including their own. But here’s the tricky part – since the Guesser can’t see their own feather, they have to take a wild guess at its value!

Okay, I have to admit, it’s not easy. But that’s what makes it fun! Can you imagine trying to solve a puzzle with missing pieces? That’s exactly what the Guesser is doing. They have to use their detective skills and intuition to come up with the total feather value, even without all the information. It’s like being a real-life Coyote!

So, now you know how to play the game. Isn’t it exciting? Get ready for some intense rounds and see if you can outsmart your opponents. It’s time to put on your bandana and let the adventure begin!

When it’s your turn to play, you can pick any number you want. However, it’s not a good idea to choose a number that’s higher than what you think the feathers are worth. You might want to try to trick your opponents by bluffing!

The person sitting to your left (going clockwise) has two options:

  1. They can choose a different number. The number they choose must be higher than the number you declared;
  2. They can say “COYOTE!” if they think the feathers are worth less than the number you declared.

If they go with the first option, it’s now their turn is over and the person to their left has to decide whether to pick a higher number or call “Coyote”. This goes on until someone finally yells “Coyote”!

When I shout “Coyote” (because I think the feathers aren’t worth as much as the last number that was said), we stop playing. Now, we all show our feathers and put them on the table, face up. We need to count how much they’re worth.

First, let’s add up all the positive values (the feathers with a green background). Then, let’s subtract all the negative values (the feathers with a red background).

Pay attention to the special feathers with the blue background!

These feathers have unique properties and can unexpectedly alter the overall value!

If the total value of the feathers equals or exceeds the last declared number, you will lose the round if you shouted “Coyote”! To show this, attach a coyote coin to your bandana.

If the total value of the feathers is less than the last declared number, the player who made that guess loses the round and must take a coyote coin.

If you gather three coyote coins, you’re out of the game!

Let’s get started! I’m going to tell you the story of a game called “Guess the Feathers.” It’s a fun game that involves guessing and counting feathers.

Once upon a time, Running Bear began the game by guessing that there were 8 feathers. Then, Dancing Deer thought the guess was too low, so she guessed 13. Lonely Turtle followed with a guess of 14, and Windy Night said 16.

But Noisy Bird didn’t think the feathers were worth that much, so he called out “Coyote!”

Now it’s time to reveal the feathers. All the players put their feathers on the table and add up their values. Can you guess what the total is? It’s 14! So, Windy Night’s guess was too high, and she has to take a coyote coin and attach it to her bandana.

If the total had been 16 or higher, then Noisy Bird would have had to take the coin instead.

After the round is over, all the feathers used in that round are placed face up in a discard pile. But, here’s a twist. If a blue feather with the number zero on it was played in the round, then all the feathers, all 30 of them, are reshuffled, and a new draw pile is created.

When there aren’t enough feathers left in the pile for each player, we shuffle the feathers again.

If you’re still in the game, you’ll take a new feather from the pile and put it in your bandana. This starts a new round. The first player in the new round will either be the one who called “Coyote” or the last player to guess a value (whichever one didn’t take the coyote coin).

Don’t forget, you can’t look at your own feathers!

Blue Feathers

Feathers with a blue background have special actions that must be done when someone calls “Coyote” and the feathers are revealed. If there’s more than one blue feather revealed in the same round, resolve them in the following order:

  • #image.jpg
I flip over the top feather in the draw pile and add its value to my total.
  • #image.jpg
I discard this feather and the green feather with the highest value before counting the total (if there are multiple feathers with the highest value, I only discard one of them).
  • #image.jpg
The green feather with the highest value becomes negative and I subtract it from my total (count it as if it were a red feather-if there are multiple feathers with the highest value, only one of them becomes negative).

I’m gonna tell you something important, so listen up. When you’re playing the game Coyote, there are a few things you need to keep in mind. First off, all the green feathers are worth double their face value. That means you gotta be on the lookout for those green guys! But hold up, don’t go doubling any feathers that were turned into red feathers by the “Maximum feather.” Only the pure green ones get the special treatment. And speaking of the Maximum feather, it doesn’t have any value on its own. It’s just there to tell you to reshuffle the feathers after the round is scored. So, remember to mix things up and keep the game interesting! Now let’s talk about the coins. But hold on, this time we’re gonna dive into the details. Keep your eyes peeled for my next update!

  • #image.jpgWhen you use this coin, you take the top feather from the draw pile and put it face up in front of you. Everyone can see this feather, and it adds to your final score at the end of the round. Once you use the coin, you have to declare a value like normal.
  • #image.jpgWhen you use this coin, it changes the order of play from going clockwise to going counterclockwise. You still have to make a declaration as usual, but after your turn is over, the next player will be the one on your right. This order of turns continues for the rest of the round. The order of play goes back to normal at the start of the next round.
  • Let me tell you about an important aspect of the game called Coyote. It’s a game where players can use special coins to give themselves an advantage. One of these coins is called the Skip Coin. When a player uses the Skip Coin, they don’t have to take their turn and can pass it to the player on their left. This allows them to take a break and let the game continue without them.

Another special coin is the Exchange Coin. When a player uses the Exchange Coin, they can swap their current feather with the top feather from the draw pile. They place the new feather in front of the old one. The old feather doesn’t count towards their final score at the end of the round, but if it’s a blue zero feather, the feathers are reshuffled. After using the Exchange Coin, the player must still make a declaration like normal.

These coins add an extra layer of strategy to the game, giving players more options to consider when making their moves. So next time you play Coyote, don’t forget to use these special coins to your advantage!

#image.jpgSo, here’s how it works: when you use this coin, you have to make a guess out loud. What do you think the value of your own feather is? If you guess right, congratulations! You get to sit out for the rest of the round. Nothing to worry about, you’re safe! Just skip your turns from now on. Your feather stays face up on the table and is still part of the final value. But, if your guess isn’t right, it’s a different story. You have to add one coyote coin to your bandana, and the round is over. Oh well, better luck next time. You’ll be the first player in the next round.

    End Of The Game

Now, let’s talk about the end of the game. Things get a little intense when you have two coyote coins on your bandana. That’s when you’re in real danger of being knocked out. If, by some unfortunate turn of events, you take a third coin, that’s it, you’re out! You’re officially out of the game, and the other players get to keep playing without you. Bummer!

The winner of the game is the last player left standing. They become the new Tribal Chief! But wait, if you’re playing with only a few players, like 3 or 4, you can change the rules. Before the game starts, you can decide that players are out of the game when they collect their 4th or 5th coyote coin. This makes the game more challenging and gives it a twist!

Once you are familiar with Coyote, you can try playing with the advanced rules. Here’s how it works: at the beginning of the game, place 8 coins with pictures face up on the table. These coins have special actions that can be used throughout the game.

The basic rules of the game stay the same, but now players have the option to turn over one of the 8 coins before making a declaration or calling “Coyote”. Each coin can only be used once per round, and at the start of a new round, all the coins are turned face up again and can be used once more. This adds an extra layer of strategy to the game, making it even more exciting!

Note: Once there are only two players left in the game, they cannot use the picture coins anymore!

Playing With More Than Six Players

If you happen to have two sets of Coyote, you can combine them to create a larger game! In this case, it is recommended to use only one set of feathers.
