Welcome to Alice in Wordland!
Hey there! I’m so excited to introduce you to Alice in Wordland, a captivating game that will test your word skills. In this guide, I’ll walk you through the rules and show you how to play this delightful word game.
Objective
The objective of Alice in Wordland is to create as many words as you can using the given letters. Your aim is to form words that are longer and more complex to earn higher points.
Gameplay
When you start the game, I will present you with a random group of letters. Your task is to use these letters to construct words. You can select letters in any order to create a valid word.
Remember, you can only use each letter once, and you need to use the central letter at least once in every word you create. Your words must be three letters or longer. Oh, and proper names and abbreviations won’t count!
Make sure you think carefully and use your imagination to come up with unique and unusual words. The longer and more creative your words, the more points you’ll earn.
Scoring
In Alice in Wordland, the length and complexity of the words you create directly affect your score. Longer words earn you more points! For example, a three-letter word might be worth one point, while a five-letter word could be worth three points.
But that’s not all! You can score even higher by using rarer letters. Letters like ‘Q’, ‘X’, and ‘Z’ are worth more points than common letters like ‘E’ or ‘S’. So, try to include those less common letters to boost your score.
Time
You’ll have a limited amount of time to create as many words as possible. As the clock ticks, keep searching for words to maximize your score. But remember, quality is just as important as quantity. So, make every word count!

Welcome to the palace gardens, where the Queen of Hearts is hosting a delightful tea party. She’s quite an interesting character, always coming up with peculiar rules.
Today, the Queen has decreeed that certain letters of the alphabet are off-limits! If you accidentally say a word that contains one of these forbidden letters, you’ll be immediately sent home. Do you have what it takes to be the last guest standing?
Step into the enchanting world of Alice in Wordland, a word party game designed for 3-8 players. Each player gets to become a unique character from Wonderland as they embark on this word-filled adventure.
Every round, players take turns contributing words that fit with the current topic of discussion. Keep your wits about you, as using a word that contains a forbidden letter or hesitating for too long will eliminate you from the round. The longer you manage to stay in the game, the more points you’ll earn. The player with the highest score at the end of the game will be crowned the ultimate champion.
What’s Inside the Box?
Let me tell you about the components that come with this game. There’s a music-playing plastic teapot timer, which adds a fun twist to the gameplay. You’ll also find eight character cards and eight scoring cards. These cards are important for keeping track of your progress in the game.
There are also 25 forbidden letter cards. These cards will challenge your word skills as you try to form words without using specific letters. To help get the conversation flowing, there are 60 discussion topics included. These topics will give you plenty to talk about during the game.
For keeping score, there are 42 VP tokens. These tokens will help you keep track of your points as you play. To add a sense of urgency to the game, there are three time tokens. These tokens will keep the game moving and ensure that you make quick decisions.
Lastly, there’s a caterpillar token and a rulebook to guide you through the game. The caterpillar token is used for a special rule that adds an exciting twist to the gameplay.
Setting Up the Game
- The player who is youngest will start by placing the Queen of Hearts character card face up in front of them. Each player will then randomly select a character card and place it face up in front of them. Any unused character cards are returned to the box.
Note: If you’re playing with three players, you won’t be able to use the “Caterpillar” and “Alice” character cards. These cards should be returned to the box before starting the game.

Game Play
The game consists of multiple rounds, one for each player. Each round is made up of three phases:
A. Preparation
To start the game, arrange the Scoring cards in a stack, with the “1” card on top and the card matching the number of players on the bottom. Put the pile within reach of everyone, making sure each card is on the correct side based on the player count. Any extra cards should be returned to the box.- If the game includes the “Mad Hatter” character card, the player who holds that card receives a Time token (refer to the Characters section for more details).
If the game includes the “Caterpillar” character card, the player who possesses that card can use their Caterpillar token (refer to the Characters section for more details).
If you have the “White Rabbit” character card, grab the top card from the purple letter pile (check the Characters section). If you have the “Tweedie Twins” character, take 2 Time tokens (again, check the Characters section). Now, if you have the “Queen of Hearts” character, things get interesting. You can take the top card from the red letter pile, but keep it a secret from everyone else. Then, draw the top two cards from the Discussion pile. Put one card back at the bottom and place the other one on the table for everyone to see. That card is the topic for the current round.
Imagine you’re sitting at a table with friends, ready to play a game called “Alice in Wordland.” The first step is to draw three letter cards, one from each pile – blue, purple, and green. Place them face up on the table where everyone can see. These letters are known as the Forbidden Letters for this round.
Now comes the fun part! When it’s your turn, you have to say something related to the Discussion topic without using any of the Forbidden Letters. Make sure to reset the timer by pressing it. After you’ve taken your turn, the player to your left gets a turn right away.
Here’s the challenge – if you say a word that has any of the Forbidden Letters or if you can’t come up with a suitable word before time’s up, you’re out of the round. Flip your Character card face down to show you’re out.
The game continues with the remaining players until there’s only one player left. They are the winner of the round! Ready to play? Let the exciting word adventures begin!
In this game, if a player is out of the round, they have to skip their turn and can’t use any abilities from their Character card. It’s kinda like being left out, you know?
Now, pay attention because here’s where it gets interesting. The first player to go out of a round gets the Scoring card pile and puts its top card (which shows one cup) in front of them. Cool, right? But wait, there’s more. From now on, whenever another player goes out, they have to give the top card of the Scoring pile to that player. It’s like a little reward for being the first one out.
Now, when we discuss things, we need to stick to a few guidelines. All the words we use should be things we can see. You know, people, animals, plants, activities, or objects. And most importantly, they should be related to the topic we’re discussing. So, if we’re talking about the circus, we can use words like “clown” (you can see them at the circus), “lion” (also at the circus), “tent” (duh, circus!), or “juggling” (a popular activity at the circus).
And lastly, let’s do some cleanup.
Hey there! So, when all except one player is out of the round, that means the Discussion phase is done. The lucky last player in the round gets the last Scoring card.
Okay, now let’s talk about the points. Each player gets the points shown on their Scoring card. And don’t forget to keep track of your points using the point tokens.
Oh, and a quick note: Some character cards might give you extra points! Make sure to check out the Characters section for more info on that.
The End of the Game
Time flies, and the game ends when every player has used up all their Characters. The player with the most points wins! Woo-hoo!
If there happens to be a tie, don’t worry, my friend. You’re all winners in my book for having such a blast with your friends. But if you really, really want to determine a single winner, then it’s the player who has the highest-numbered Scoring card in the final round. Time to break out the confetti!
Remember, tea time never ends in Wonderland. So get ready to play again! Let the games continue!
