If you wanna build, destroy, or make deals with a location, you’ll need contact tokens. Contact tokens are what allow you to interact with locations. There are blue tokens for your merchants, which you use to make deals.

Burn It All Down!

In the game, you also have the option to destroy the other player’s locations. It’s a fierce battle out there – either you burn them, or they burn you. There’s no middle ground. Each location has its own defense value.

All Production Locations have a Defense value of 3, all Feature Locations have a Defense value of 4, and all Action Locations have a Defense value of 5.

If you have a number of Red Contact tokens equal to the Defense value of another player’s Location that bothers you, you can spend them to Raze this Location. We’ll talk more about Razing later, but I thought I’d give you a heads up since it seems like you’re into that concept. Am I right?

Game Play

Each round is divided into 4 Phases so people don’t get confused (no offense).

1. Draft Phase

• Reveal the top card of each Connection pile. Put it on top of the pile, or beside it, whatever works best for you.
• To start the game, I need to draw a certain number of cards from the Deck. The number of cards I draw should be equal to the number of players, plus 1. For example, if there are 3 players, I would draw 4 cards. These cards are then placed face-up in the center of the playing area for everyone to see.
• Now, it’s time for each player to choose a card from the ones that were revealed and add it to their hand. We start with the first player and go in a clockwise direction. Once everyone has chosen a card, we will discard the remaining card face-up onto the discard pile.
• We repeat the same process again. This time, we draw a number of cards equal to the number of players, plus 1. These cards are placed face-up in the center of the playing area. However, this time we start with the last player and go in a counter-clockwise direction. Each player chooses one card and adds it to their hand. Once again, we discard the remaining card.

Note: You can have as many cards as you want in your hand.

2. Production Phase

• Gathering Goods: I take goods from the general supply and place them in my own supply.

3. Taking Action

Starting with the first player and going clockwise, each player takes turns performing one action at a time during the Action Phase. Here are the actions I can choose from:

• Building a Location: I can build a new location for my faction.
• Making a Deal: I can negotiate and make deals with other players.
• Razing a Location: I can destroy an opponent’s location.
• Using an Action Card: I can use an action from one of the cards in my hand.
• Using an Action from My Faction Board: I can use an action specifically available to my faction.
• Using another Player’s Open Production Location: I can utilize a production location owned by another player.
• Taking or Playing a Connection Card: I can acquire or play a connection card.

Razing Your Opponent’s Locations – This one’s even more fun! Just discard tokens equal to the defense value of the location you want to raze. You can find the defense value based on the category of the location. Once you do that, you can take the goods shown in the spoils field. But wait, there’s more! As compensation, the opponent whose card you razed gets the good depicted in the deal field. And get this, their location is turned face-down and becomes ruins. Some Locations let you do cool stuff. They might give you points or special tokens. To do the cool stuff, you need to spend specific items and put them on the card. This helps you remember that you can’t do the cool stuff again in the same round. Pretty clever, right?

Remember: You can only do the cool stuff once per round, unless the card says otherwise. If you can do it more than once, you get to choose when and how. You can even make different choices each time if there are decisions involved.

Hey there! Your Faction board has some cool Actions you can take. You can do these things even if you don’t have any Locations. Just like the Actions on cards, you can only do each one once per round (unless the text says otherwise).

Send one of your workers to another player’s open production location

Open Production Location

I can send my Workers to my opponent’s Locations and they can work there. But there’s a catch: the Location needs to have the Open Production keyword. When I send my Worker to their card, I get the Production Goods specified on it. And guess what? My opponent gets one from the general supply. Wait, why do I have to send my Worker to their card? Well, it’s because each Open Production Location can only be used once per round. By placing my Worker on their card, I can remember if it’s already been used. Makes sense, right?

Just a heads up: I can’t send my Worker to my own Open Production Locations. And once a player has passed, their Open Production Locations can’t be used for the rest of that round. So keep that in mind!

When I play an Open Production card, it does something really cool – it actually creates Goods for me! Isn’t that amazing? It happens during the Production phase, and it’s a great way for me to enhance my gameplay and earn more resources.

Choose a connection card to take or play

You know what’s really cool? In this game, you have this awesome ability where you can get rid of 2 cards from your hand to snatch one of those face-up Connection cards. It’s like a crazy trade-off, but it can be totally worth it. However, here’s the thing: if there aren’t any face-up cards, sorry buddy, but you’re out of luck. You can’t pull off that move. And just so we’re clear, you can’t go digging into the discard pile either. Nope, no freebies allowed. I mean, seriously, why would you even try that? It’s against the rules, man! So remember, think twice before you try to make that move. It might seem enticing, but sometimes you just gotta play by the rules, you know?

When you play a Connection card, you receive Goods. It’s as simple as that – all you need to do is take an Action and play the card from your hand. After playing it, place the card on the Connection discard pile and collect the appropriate Goods.

Remember: If using the card has a cost, you must discard the Goods when using it, not when taking it.

Other Options

During your turn, you have the option to place 1 on one of your Locations. However, in order to do so, you need to already have a available. Placing a doesn’t count as your Action, and once you’ve placed it, you can’t move it.

Having a stronghold on a location can boost its defense by 1. In case you forgot why this is a big deal, go back to the section where we talk about razing a location. Maybe it slipped your mind, but that’s alright. Just remember, each location can only have a maximum of 1 stronghold at a time.

Taking a Break

If you can’t or don’t feel like taking any actions on your turn, you have the option to pass. When you pass, you’re basically saying, “I’ll sit this one out.” Once you do that, you’re not allowed to take any other actions for that round.

By passing, you get a break from the other players. They can’t mess with your locations in any way. It’s like you’re hunkering down in your own little base, untouchable. You know, kind of like a bunch of chickens hiding out.

And no, I’m not kidding. Your locations can’t be razed. You’re out for the round, safe and sound. Your opponents will just have to find someone else to pick on and stop their complaining.

After everyone has finished their actions, the Action phase comes to an end, and it’s time for the Cleanup phase.

The Cleanup Phase

During this phase, you can use any storage abilities your Locations have to save the Goods mentioned on the card. Everything else – resources, workers, contact tokens, and shields – is discarded and returned to the supply. The only thing you can hold on to between rounds, apart from the Goods in storage, are the cards in your hand.

All face-up Connection cards that were not chosen in the round should be discarded and placed on the Connection discard pile. Sorry, bub, you missed your chance.

Pass the first player token to the player on your left and start a new round.

End of the Game

Hey there! Let’s talk about how the game ends in this awesome card game. The game ends when any player reaches a total of 25 Victory Points. Once this happens, we finish up the current Action phase, but then skip the Cleanup phase.

If a player gets to 25 points during the Production phase, we don’t skip a beat! We just continue on with the Action phase as usual. Once the Action phase is done, though, we skip the Cleanup phase and move on to calculating each player’s final score.

Now for scoring! Each Location in your State is worth 1 Victory Point. Add up the total number of Locations you have and add that to your score.

And the big moment…the player with the highest score wins the game!

In case there’s a tie, here’s the tiebreaker: the player with the most total Goods is the winner. If there’s still a tie after that, the player among the tied players with the most Locations wins. And if, by some miracle, there’s still a tie after that, all the tied players are winners. Yay for ties!

A Few More Details to Keep in Mind

• When you build specific types of Locations, make sure to include the card from the Feature or Production Location that provides the Goods, even if it was just built.
• Resources are not meant to be limited. Most games provide enough pieces, but if you run out, feel free to use any suitable substitute or make a note of it on paper.
• The number of cards, resources, tokens, etc. that you have is open information for everyone to see.
• If you need to draw a card from the Deck and there are none left, simply shuffle the discard pile to create a new Deck.
• You can use open Production Locations once per round. Keep your opponent’s Workers on your Locations until the end of the round to keep track of this.
• It’s not a problem if you mistakenly place your Locations in the wrong spot. It’s just recommended to follow the outline in this rulebook because it helps you and your opponents keep track of the game.
• You can only destroy Locations from your hand or Locations built in your opponent’s States. You can’t destroy Locations in your own State.
• You can build as many Locations and have as many Deals as you want.
• You can have multiple Locations with the same name in your State.
• There are no restrictions on the number of cards in your hand.
• If you steal an opponent’s production (like SUPPLIERS) and that Location provides Goods based on the number of Locations of a certain type, count the Locations owned by the Location’s owner.
