Introduction
Hey there! If you want to take your Gaia Project experience to the next level, you’ve come to the right place. In this guide, I’ll walk you through some advanced setup options that’ll make your game even more thrilling and strategic. Let’s get started!
Variable Setup
So, you’re tired of playing on the same old game board every time? Well, I’ve got good news for you. Gaia Project offers variable setups that allow you to customize the game board to your liking. It’s like getting a whole new playing field every time you sit down to play!
Here’s how it works: before starting the game, you can arrange the various sectors and planetary systems in any way you want. You can even choose different setups that introduce special rules or objectives. So, go ahead and let your imagination run wild!
Race Advancement Tiles
Now, let’s talk about race advancement tiles. These little gems can give your faction a significant edge in the game. Each faction has its own set of tiles that offer unique abilities and advantages, from improved navigation to enhanced terraforming skills.
Here’s the fun part: you get to choose which advancement tiles you want to use! Before the game begins, you can select a certain number of tiles from your faction’s pool to give your faction that extra boost it needs. It’s all about finding the perfect combination for your strategy.
Advanced Scoring
Scoring is a crucial aspect of Gaia Project, and with advanced scoring, things get even more interesting. In addition to the regular scoring criteria, you can add extra objectives and bonuses to spice things up. These can range from completing certain technology tracks to occupying specific sectors.
By including advanced scoring, you’ll have more strategic choices to make and more ways to earn points. It adds a whole new layer of depth to the game and keeps you on your toes until the very end.

So there you have it – a brief guide to advanced setup options in Gaia Project. By utilizing variable setups, race advancement tiles, and advanced scoring, you can take your gaming experience to new heights. Remember, the key is to experiment and find what works best for you. Now go out there and conquer the galaxy!
Once you understand the basic rules, you’ll have the freedom to customize your game setup.
Deciding on Your Faction
Hey there! So, instead of sticking to the list and choosing a faction, you get to make your own choice. As the first player, you can pick any one of the seven faction boards. Once you’ve chosen a board, you then select one of the factions on it and place the board on the table with that side facing up. Cool, huh?
After you’ve made your choice, it’s the next player’s turn. Going clockwise, each player takes their turn just like you did, choosing from the remaining faction boards.
Time to Build Your First Structures
Okay, now it’s time to place your initial mines. Forget about that diagram, though. We’re going to follow some new rules. Starting with you, the first player, and going clockwise, you can place one mine on any one home planet that matches your color. Then, it’s the last player’s turn. Going counterclockwise, they place their second mine on a different home planet. Got it?
Oh, and don’t worry about having to pay power for the mines your opponents place during setup. It’s free! And don’t forget, always choose the leftmost mine on your faction board when you’re placing one.
Once everyone has placed their second mine, the Xenos take their turn to put down their third mine. Following that, it’s the Ivits’ turn to place their planetary institute. However, the Ivits can only do so after all the mines, including the Xenos’ third mine, have been placed.
When you first place mines, you uncover spaces on your faction board. This is crucial for your income.
Different Order of Turns
If you’re tired of following a boring clockwise turn order in the game, I have a cool alternative for you! Let’s try using a turn order card that adds some excitement and unpredictability to the mix.
Here’s how it works: when you’re setting up the game, just place the turn order card next to the game board. Starting with the first player and going in clockwise order, each player will put one of their satellites on the left side of the turn order card, specifically on the topmost available space.
During the game, things get even more interesting. When it’s your turn to pass, you’ll move your satellite to the other side of the turn order card, specifically to the topmost available space. This means that each round will have the turn order alternating between the left side and the right side of the card. The numbers on the card show you the turn order for each round.
Get Ready for a Variable Game Board
The game also comes with 10 space sector tiles that can be arranged in different ways, allowing for a variety of board configurations. This adds an extra layer of challenge and strategy to keep things fresh and exciting every time you play.
Hey there! Let me tell you a cool way to play this game. Instead of following the usual way to set up the board, we’re going to try something different. Are you ready? Here’s the plan: once everyone has chosen their teams, the last player in line will be the one who gets to assemble the game board. Isn’t that exciting?
But wait, there’s another option. If everyone agrees, we can all work together to put the board together. Teamwork makes the dream work, right?
Now, let me show you a couple of ways to assemble the board. It’s important to remember that you can’t have two planets of the same type right next to each other. Here are the methods:
For 3 or 4 Players
To set up the game, I need to use all 10 space sector tiles. Let’s start by placing sectors 05, 06, and 07 with the solid side facing up.
Now, there are three different methods we can use to place the remaining tiles:
Method 1: Place space sector tiles 01 through 04 following the instructions in the basic setup. Then, randomly place tiles 05 through 10 to create the same board shape as the basic setup. You can rotate each tile as you like.
Method 2: Randomly place space sector tiles 01 through 04 in the same orientation as in the basic setup. Then, randomly place tiles 05 through 10 to create the same board shape as the basic setup. Again, you are free to rotate each tile to your preference.
Method 3: Randomly place all of the space sector tiles to create the same board shape as the basic setup. Like before, you can rotate each tile as you see fit.
For 1 or 2 Players:
If you want to create a different game board setup, here’s a cool idea for you:
Use sector tiles 01 through 07 and place sectors 05, 06, and 07 outlined-side up.
To make it even more interesting, place all of the space sector tiles randomly to recreate the same board shape as the basic setup. Feel free to rotate each tile however you like.
Get Creative!
Once you become really familiar with the game, you can have even more fun by creating new shapes for the board. For example, in a 3-player game, you could decide to leave out sectors 09 and 10 to make the game board smaller.
