To get started, let’s separate the fraction tiles into two groups – the standard ones with lower denominators and the advanced ones with higher denominators.

Now, take the bag and give it a good shake to mix up the 51 standard fraction tiles. Once they’re nicely shuffled, spill them out onto a table or flat surface, making sure they’re all face down and not overlapping.

Before we continue, it’s time to put away the advanced fraction tiles back in the storage bag.

Let’s Play the Game!

It’s your turn! Pick a tile randomly and quickly flip it over. Make sure all the players can see the fraction at the same time, so lift the tile from the edge farthest from you and give it a flip.

Okay, so here’s the deal. We all start by flipping over a tile, right? Then we take a good look at it and compare it to the one that got flipped over at the beginning. And I don’t know about you, but I’m trying my best to figure out if these two tiles are the same.

If you want to play a fun and fast-paced game, I have just the one for you. It’s called Slap Match and it’s all about flipping over tiles and slapping the right ones.

Here’s how it works: at the start of the game, one of the tiles is flipped over. It could be any tile, and it doesn’t matter who flips it. The goal is to be the first to slap the tile that matches the one that was just flipped.

Let me give you an example. Say we start with the fraction 1/2 flipped over. Then, on their turn, a player flips over another tile that shows 2/4. The first person to realize that these two fractions are equivalent would slap the 1/2 tile and claim it, leaving the 2/4 tile face-up on the table.

When a tile is slapped, the other players have to confirm that it is indeed the right match before it can be claimed. All the claimed tiles are then stacked face-down in front of each player.

The game continues in a clockwise direction, with each player trying to slap as many correct tiles as they can. The goal is to keep slapping until all the tiles have been flipped over.

When we play this game, we have to use the same hand and keep it flat on the table. Before flipping over a new tile, make sure to flip it close to you. But if you choose a tile that’s far from you, slide it towards yourself and then flip it. It’s important to be quick and slap the tiles before the next player takes their turn. Sometimes, the tiles might not be seen or recognized in time, and this can result in multiple matching pairs on the table. In that case, all the matching tiles can be slapped by the players. Don’t worry if you slap the wrong tile – there are no penalties, and the game just keeps going.

ADVANCED PLAY

If you’re playing with older kids or even younger ones who already know the basic game, you can make it more interesting by using the advanced fraction tiles. This adds an extra level of challenge.

The Game Ends

When all the tiles have been flipped and no more pairs remain, the game comes to an end. The player with the most tiles is declared the winner.
