Sam sip – learn to play with

By: Dennis B. B. Taylor

Welcome to Sam Sip!

Hey there! I’m excited to introduce you to Sam Sip, a really cool card game that can be played by 2 to 6 players. The goal of the game is simple: be the last player standing!

In Sam Sip, we have a little twist – it’s a betting game! Before we start playing, all the players need to agree on how much they want to bet. Each round, the stakes double, and the player who can’t keep up is out of the game. The stakes then go back to the original amount and start doubling up again until we have a final winner.

Ready to Play? Let’s Set Up!

To kick off the game, we first need to choose a dealer. We can simply do this by picking a random player or the person who won the previous round. This chosen dealer will then become the dealer for future rounds.

Alright, let’s get this game started! I’ll shuffle the deck and let you cut it. Then, I’ll deal each of us a hand of 5 cards, going in a counter-clockwise direction. Now, here comes the exciting part – the next card I reveal will determine the wild cards for this round.

Card Ranking

Now, in this game, there isn’t a specific ranking for the cards. The main objective is to have pairs of cards that add up to 10, or pairs of face cards and 10s.

But wait, there’s more! We also have two types of wild cards. First, we have the 3 jokers, which count as wild cards. And second, we have the 3 remaining cards of the same rank as the one I just revealed. These can be paired with any other card to make a pair.

GAMEPLAY

Alright, let’s dive into the game! I’ll start as the dealer. I’ll grab the top card from the deck, which leaves me with 5 cards. I’ll choose one from my hand to discard faceup next to the player on my right. Now, it’s your turn!

When it’s your turn, you have two options. You can either take the top card from the facedown stockpile or choose the top face-up card from the discard pile in front of you. After you’ve taken your card, you’ll need to pick one from your hand to pass on to the player on your right.

A hand comes to an end when a player has three pairs. A pair can be made up of two cards that add up to 10 or a pair of 10s, Jacks, Queens, or Kings.

Now, there are two special hands that can win you the round. The first one is called “three aces and three of a kind,” which means you have three Aces and three cards of a different rank. The second special hand is having six cards of the same suit.

So, here’s how it works: when someone wins a round, they get paid by every player for the bets made in that round. But if a player can’t pay, they’re out of the game.

Game Over

The game is over when there’s just one player left standing.
