Let’s Play QWIXX!
Qwixx is a fun board game that you can play with 2 to 5 people. The goal of the game is to cross out as many numbers as you can on your scorepad and score the most points by the end.
Getting Started
Before we start playing, let’s set up the game. Each player will need a scoring sheet and a pencil.
Scoring Sheets
Each scoring sheet has 4 rows of numbers in different colors. To play, you’ll need to cross out numbers from left to right. You can start anywhere in the line of numbers, but once you start, you can’t cross out any numbers to the left. And remember, if you skip a number, you can’t score any numbers that are to the left of the skipped number either.
How to Play
So here’s how the game works. We start by rolling a die, and the first person to get a 6 becomes the active player. Now, it’s time for some dice rolling!
As the active player, I get to roll all 6 dice, and I have two actions to take. Let’s see what those actions are.
First, I can add the two white dice together and announce the result. If I want, I can then cross out that number from any of my colored rows. But remember, it’s totally up to me if I want to do that or not. I have the freedom to choose!
Now, onto the second action. As the active player, I can choose one white dice and one of the colored dice, add them together, and cross out that number from the corresponding colored dice line. But again, it’s not mandatory. I have the power to decide.
I can perform these actions in any order I want, but they have to happen one after the other. It’s all about strategy, you know?
But here’s the catch. If, after completing both actions, I haven’t crossed out any numbers, I have to mark a penalty box. And guess what? Each penalty box I mark is worth negative 5 points. Ouch!
So, think wisely, roll those dice, and make the best moves to score those points. Good luck!
Once we’re all set, we start the game by passing the active player to the left and repeating the actions above after rolling a new dice.
Locking Rows
As we play the game, we have the option to lock rows. To do this, we need to cross out at least 5 numbers in the corresponding row. If the farthest right number is rolled, we can also cross it out to lock the row. Once a row is locked, no one else can score in it, and the corresponding die is removed from the game. If you’re the one who locked the row, you can also cross out the lock next to the farthest right number. Multiple players can lock the same colored row at the same time, but not afterwards.
END OF GAME
Hey there! Let me explain how this game works. The game will come to an end when a player marks off 4 penalty boxes or when two rows have been locked. Once this happens, the game is over, and we move on to scoring.
SCORING
Alright, now that the game is over, it’s time to tally up our scores. Each player will fill out their scoring sheet using the table marked below the blue row. Each tally for the row is marked in the corresponding box at the bottom of the sheet, and we also subtract penalty points from our total. The player with the highest score wins the game.
