QUINIENTOS

Hey there! Let me introduce you to Quinientos, an awesome domino game that’s perfect for you and your friends. The goal of the game is to reach 500 or more points in order to come out victorious!

The game is played by 4 people, divided into 2 teams. Make sure to sit across from your partner to form a solid alliance!

SETUP

Before we start, we need to get everything ready. First, let’s randomly choose a dealer. It’s their responsibility to shuffle the tiles and deal 7 dominoes to each player. Don’t worry, there won’t be any leftovers!

GAMEPLAY

Let the games begin! For the first round, the player who has the double 6 will kick off the layout. After that, the turn order will go to the player on the right. They can start the layout with any tile they want. Remember, we’ll be playing in a counterclockwise direction.

When it’s my turn, I’ll add a tile to the layout if I can. If I can’t legally add a tile, I’ll pass my turn. To add a tile, I need to connect the end of one tile to the other by matching the numbers on the touching ends. The only exception is a double, where both numbers must match, and it’s added to the layout at a 90-degree angle.

We play the game until one player plays all their tiles or until all 4 players pass their turn without being able to play to the layout.

If I manage to empty my hand, my team wins the round. If the game ends with a blocked layout, we count the number of pips on tiles we have left in hand. The team with fewer pips is the winner. If there’s a tie, the round ends in a tie.

Scoring

Once we’ve determined the winner of the round, it’s time to start scoring. The winning team receives points based on the number of pips remaining in the losing team’s hands.

If the round ends in a tie, then no points are scored.

Once scoring is finished, we begin a new round. The tiles are collected, shuffled, and a new layout is created, following the instructions outlined in the gameplay section.

There’s also a bonus for winning the first four rounds. The first round awards an extra 100 points, the second round 75 points, the third round 50 points, and the fourth round 25 points. From the fifth round onwards, no additional bonus is given. However, the bonus is forfeited if the round ends in a blocked game.

Did you know that winning in the game of dominoes can earn you some extra points? It’s true! If the last tile you played was a non-double tile and can be played to either side of the layout, your team will receive an additional 100 points. And if you played the double blank, which can be played to both sides or just one side of the layout, your team will also earn another 100 points. However, some variations of this rule state that the bonus is only earned if the double blank can be played to one side of the layout.

THE END OF THE GAME

The game comes to an end when a team reaches or goes beyond 500 points. And guess what? The team with the highest score wins the game and emerges victorious!
