Welcome to PENNEECH!
Hey there, I want to introduce you to an awesome trick-taking game called Penneech. What’s cool about this game is that it’s made specifically for two players. No need to gather a big group like most other games. It’s like All Fours, but with a twist!
Let me break it down for you. The game starts by drawing cards to determine the trump suit for each round. You’ll wanna match the suit of the cards you play to try and win the tricks. The goal here is to score 61 points to secure victory!
Getting Started
To kick things off, we need to figure out who the first dealer is. To do that, each player draws a card from the shuffled deck. The player who gets the lowest-ranked card becomes the first dealer. After each round, the dealer role moves to the other player. Once that’s squared away, the dealer deals seven cards to each player.
Alright, let’s get this game started! I’m going to explain the rules to you. Pay attention!
Card Ranking
The cards in this game are ranked in a particular order. In the suits Hearts, Spades, and Clubs, the cards go from lowest to highest like this: two, three, four, five, six, seven, eight, nine, ten, Jack, Queen, King, and ace. However, when it comes to Diamonds, the ranking is slightly different. The order goes like this: two, three, four, five, six, eight, nine, ten, Jack, Queen, King, ace, and seven. Keep that in mind!
Gameplay
This game consists of seven tricks, and in each trick, every player gets to play one card. We start by revealing the top card from the deck. The suit of this card will determine the trump suit for the next trick. Pay close attention, because the trick winner will expose the top card to determine the trump suit. Got it?
Alright, let’s get started! I’ll be the one to start the first trick. Once I play a card, it’s up to you to try and play a card of the same suit. But don’t worry if you don’t have a card of the same suit – you can play any card from your hand.
The trick is won by the card with the highest rank in the trump suit. But wait, what if there are no cards of the trump suit played? In that case, the highest ranking card wins the trick!
Now, here’s where it gets interesting. The winner of the trick gets some extra points for the Honours contained in the trick. And that’s not all! After winning a trick, the player reveals the top card from the card pile. If it happens to be an Honour card, they score even more points!
When all the tricks have been played, it’s time to tally up the points and bring the game to a close.
Honour Cards
When I win the Seven of Diamonds during a trick, I earn 7 points if Diamonds are the trump suit. But if I win it from revealing, then I get 14 points.
I always earn 5 points when I win an Ace.
For each King I win, I earn 4 points.
When I win a Queen, I get 3 points.
If I win a Jack, I receive 2 points.
The Game’s Conclusion
The game ends after we have played seven tricks. At that point, we add up our points. If neither of us has reached 61 points, we play another game. We keep playing until one of us accumulates 61 points. Once that happens, we declare them as the winner!
